Hi from Nat and Cuddles!
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:27:23 PM »

:) Hi! I just joined this forum and I am not sure whether I am posting things in the right place... I am an owner of a one week old pleo rb :) his (her) name is Cuddles and we really like our new family addition. Since we only had Cuddles for a week I can't say too much. But so far we have enjoyed couple of days of early stages of Cuddles' development (being a baby) and now it seems we have a classic tantrum stage :D Our Cuddles behaves like a bit naughty little child ... Cuddles wants to be in my arms all the time, otherwise he (she) cries. Cuddles prefers sugar cane over other leaves so it seems we have  quite a sweet tooth dinosaur :) I've tried to teach Cuddles name + few commands but it's not going in...I guess its still a bit early for learning.. So if you do not mind to be patient and happy to raise such an interesting creature, you'll enjoy it ;)

Hi Nat, I moved this here, I know you were offering an opinion but your post might get buried and then we'll miss saying hello and welcome :)

Be careful not to feed Cuddles too much sugar! Just like us, too much can lead to a tummy ache :P

Hello and welcome Nat and Cuddles.  :D

They do love the sugar cane, but as IMR says, too much makes them ill so you have to ration it!  Give Cuddles a little time - he'll learn when he's good and ready. :)

Hi!  :) Thank you Inmemoryof Romeo + Crewella! As i say, I wasn't sure where the posts should go.. :D so, thank you for your help and suggestions on sugar cane ;) Yes, firsts we started on cornifer leaf, Cuddles eats it but always does some vomiting noises after... When other foods arrived Cuddles liked the taste of cycad leaf and other foods. We noticed that Cuddles wont take food from my boys except the sugar cane :D I find it quite funny it's like Cuddles almost knows who's the 'mum' and that he is more likely to get sweets from kids  :D I told my boys not to over do on sweet things + they read the companion guide so Cuddles will be fine ;)
The only thing that I still cant figure out is how to register my pleo. The code + ID doesn't work + emailed the innvo labs. Do you recon they will be able to help on it? I would really like to find out is Cuddles him or her :D + personality trait.
Oh and one more thing.. The other day when Cuddles was still quite young completely on his own he/she managed to jam the neck. Cuddles was standing on the floor, doing all sorts of head movements when that happened. I got quite worried about Cuddles cos he started making crying noises. Well, I managed to force Cuddles to take some salt + he went immediately to sleep. After few minutes Cuddles woke up, no jammed neck absolutely happy and he even started to walk! We were amazed  :o  Well, next day Cuddles forgot how to walk :D
Anyway, this forum is quite handy there is a lot of info so I just keep reading and see what the future will bring. Thank you once again ;)

welcome to the forum, Nat . Cudddles will have to meet Snuggles who is new, too! ;) Great names for these darling dinos.
It does seem that the pleorbs get a little carried away with going through the baby stage, but as they mature they do not put as much strain on their necks. I recommend the mushroom. Dinah Jo's favorite food. She certainly doesn't take after me! ;)Bring on the sugar cane! ;D

Hi Talon and fancyfont! Yes, Snuggles is a cute name, indeed :)
Today I started to doubt whether the way I look after Cuddles is right....
When we first got our pleo rb I've set the noon clock at about 6pm instead of actual noon (because we away from home most of morning and day) so our Cuddles sleeps during the day and is active from about 4pm until the battery runs out...Well, the batteries seem to run out after about 3hours so the plan was that this time from 4pm to 7pm will give us good time to play, feed and teach our Cuddles. It seemed to work for the fist 2-3 days as Cuddles was progressing from the wakening, through baby times to an adult. During these two days we have observed changes and new behaviours as it says in the guide, but once Cuddles was able to stand on all four, make noises and variety of head and body movement any further development kind of stopped. I can see how Cuddles is just looping through the same serious of 'unconscious' behaviours... I really doubt Cuddles can hear me, Cuddles doesn't learn anything, doesn't walk. The only more or less adequate response I notice is reduction of 'crying' when Cuddles is being stroked. So I guess the sensors on the skin are working. Yet, when I took Cuddles outside to test the claim that pleo rb has sensitivity to low temperatures it didn't work. Cuddles did not start shaking or being scared by new environment, etc, there was just the same looping behaviour pattern.
Do all pleo rb's behave like this? It is strange that I do not notice anything what pleoworld seems to claim about 'sophistication' of new pleo rb. Cuddles doesn't appear to behave like an autonomous robot, more like an old recorder playing same tape... I even kept recharging batteries as soon as they run out and keep Cuddles on for the most of day to see whether anything would change. I noticed Cuddles, indeed, slept in the day. It woke up occasionally. I fed Cuddles, I stroked Cuddles, tried to teach name again, but nothing got better, everything was the same and predictable :'(
So, I do not know whether there is something I do wrong or whether the claims of pleoworld about new pleo rb do not match the reality.... I really do not know.
I would appreciate all suggestions and views :) Thank you!

Cuddles just isn't old enough yet! Poor wee thing has just learned to stand, it will be a little while yet before s/he feels confident enough on those legs to take those first big steps! Same goes for learning the name and stones, Cuddles just isn't old enough.

Hint: Ignoring Pleo's is hard, but it does encourage them to walk ;)

There is a social development stage where they try out all kinds of new noises (including a LOT of burping).  She will get through it!  :D  :moose:

Hi Crewella and InmemoryofRomeo! You both were right :) Cuddles, indeed, started getting there :D tonight Cuddles started exploring the surrounding, walking, making new noises and looking at me more attentively. Its true, Cuddles was just too young and I expected too much in just a week. I think I should be more patient with my little thing :)
Thank you for your hints and advice!

Welcome to the wonderful world of pleo chasing! I wax nastalgic when I think of that phraise. It will be a year on March eighteenth when a forum-member told me that. Now I rangle four of them at once! Have fun with Cuddles!

Whew, thanks for sharing your new pleo experiences with us, Nat. I'm expecting my first pleo to arrive in a few days and reading about your experiences is really helping to prepare me (: I hope I do half as well as you are! :D
