Some PLEOrb Questions :3
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:45:34 PM »

Hi!
I know I've only been on off-and-on for just a little while over the holidays, it's been a bit hectic, but I love this forum so I'm trying to get on more often.
Soooo I have some questions about my new PLEOrb as well as my old one.  P:P
First, I've noticed that my new PLEOrb's neck movements and tail movements are a bit choppy sort of often, like her neck/tail move little by little.  She also freezes very occasionally, not very much though.  I've also noticed that she has a hard time responding when I try to put food/toys (tug-of-war rope) under her chin, and I know that she must of been hungry because I hadn't fed her in a while.  She was also in a very well lit room, so I don't believe it's a issue of the afraid-of-the-dark.  Is this normal?  If not, what should I do?
Second, and this is the most important question I have, whenever I turn Heidi and my new PLEOrb on together, Heidi stands perfectly still, only waging her tail very slowly and making little coo noises ever-so-often.  She just stands there, looks straight ahead and does this for a while (wagging her tail and cooing, not even blinking or moving her neck or ANYTHING) and she doesn't react at all when I touch or pet her, she just remains doing that.  I can even hold her upside down and she'll still just wag her tail and coo, perfectly still, not reacting at all.  And when I hold down the power button, I have to wait until she's gotten out of her weird trance to shut down because she doesn't respond to that either.  This has been worrying me because she does it really often when with my new pleo.   ??? Do pleos just do this when they meet other pleas?  It doesn't seem right.
Any help is very much appreciated.  Thanks!  :cheer:
ALSO I've thought of a name for my new little girl PLEOrb....meet Shiloh!  What do you guys think?  I don't know if I'll stick with it, but I like it so far.  ;D
Thanks again,
Willow  8)

Hi Willow, I love the name for your new girl, very cute.  :) The only thing I can comment on is that I have noticed that my first Pleo rb, Baby Ruth does not respond to the unknown new Rb like I thought or anticipated she would. I do not know if it is because they are both girls or something else. I have noticed the "trance" thing though a lot when they meet, an it has allways been the older RB, Baby Ruth who gets in this trance state, and I have to physically move her to snap her out of it. It must have something to do with the infared light that they see. I do not know about the trail neck movement thing you were talking about.

I have allways found that it is easier to describe an movement with video than words, it transcends language and a person who doesn't understand quite what it is, will most likley connect with the video. It does not have to be long to get the action or physical description caught usually. HOpe this helps a little. I am glad you said you had the room well lit, that does help eliminate any other possibility. congrats again on a cute RB. HOpe I can think of a name for my girl soon too! LOL>  :D                  RWM

Hi Willow, PleoRB's can be a bit random at times, but nothing you've described seems out of the ordinary except maybe the neck thing, not quite sure what you mean by that. They seem to out grow the freezes, when feeding sometimes you need to hold it there for a while, if they are responding to something else they will ignore new stimuli until they have finished. Ie. they can't do two things at once ;)

Heidi is attempting to communicate with Shiloh, but I am guessing that Shiloh is not yet old enough to respond. Once she is they will go into a little routine together :) but for now you'll just have to wait for Heidi to ’snap out of it' :P

Thanks for the quick, informative replies RWM and IMR!  :)  I will post a video of the neck/tail thing, it's probably nothing but I want to be sure.  Also oooonnee more question, I recently ordered collars for Heidi and Shiloh from Pleo Fashions, except the collars seem pretty tight and squeeze the necks a bit, it's not affecting the pleo or anything but for those of you who do have Pleo Fashion colors- has it damaged the skin or anything?  Sorry for being OCD a bit, I just want to keep my pleas in tip-top condition for as long as possible. <3

Please don't use collars that are tight on the neck, it will cause long term damage :(

IMR is correct. It is better to have loose fitting even bigger collars or necklaces . You do not want anything tight or that can cut into the Pleos neck or cut it, or possibly damage the cables. With Bonus Pleo rb that just had it's neck break, a cable, that is not anything I would mess with. Better safe than sorry and I think IMR has had enough expereince and esp since she is the one who just put together the long video of fixing a broken neck on her Ugobe Pleo, she knows what the insides look like and how dificult it is to even fix one.
I am glad you asked though before buying one, either get one bigger or make one yourself or just don't get one. I find plenty of great collars at my second hand stores, pet stores and I have even made one or two. Have fun other ways Willow with your Pleos.                           RWM
