Hello! And Help! Repairs?
« on: December 30, 2011, 01:25:30 PM »

Hi,
We have a second hand Pleo, Darwin, who I bought a couple of years ago, so I'm guessing he's about 3 or 4 years old. As my little girl was not really old enough to look after him, the skin on his neck got ripped, and then his neck became stiff, and now he can't walk very well! Is there anyone out there able to fix him, as we now have a new pleo "Pleo" and he'd love a friend.

New Pleo is brand new, but is the old model. From what I can gather from other posts, there are still plenty of stuff available for him; downloads etc. Only problem is, I'm just not a technical type of person, and whilst new Pleo has been bought for my five year old, there is the strict understanding that mummy will be looking after him!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me the best place to buy accessories? When we first got darwin, there were a lot of capes, collars spare leaves etc on ebay. there doesn't seem to be as many now. Are the egg chargers any good?

Thanks,
Beth and Pele   P:-*

Hi Beth, I think your Pleo is suffering from jammed neck gears, either from the cable being frayed or something getting caught. That would require surgery but there is no repair center for Pleo's, you would have to do it yourself. As for the skin members here have had success with sewing up holes or glueing them with super glue. If you try the latter make sure the glue is safe for sensitive rubber and test on a small area first.

You could attempt to unjammed the neck by applying a steady (but not too great!) a pressure on the stuck cable. It may help, or it may not.

Here is what is involved in opening up the neck and body to check the cables:

IMR's right about the neck.

For the rest, accessories do crop up from time to time on eBay and you can still buy them from PleoWorld here:

The Ucube egg chargers and batteries are great - much better than the originals (the new Pleo RB now comes with an improved battery, more like the Ucube ones).

you can also get some accessories here on the forum.  There is a stores tab at the top of the page under the shout box :)
