Do Pleo capes damage the Pleo?
« on: December 23, 2011, 01:38:50 PM »

I assume they wouldn't, considering they ARE made for them...but I would like my RB to wear the plain brown cape that comes with it to protect his skin. But the rubber bands look like they could rip the delicate skin or rub off the paint. I was wondering if anybody has ever had a problem with the solid brown cape that comes with the Pleorb (Basic Pack).

Thanks

I have been using the pleo cape but I switched to a sweater because of the rubber bands, right now I am gluing little tufts of fur on the rubber bands

to protect the paint. Put something the rubberbands. I've had mine for four and a half days and the rubber bands are causing some problems.

Several of us have felt the same about the bands on the capes - one member, Kat, even started making her own capes with gentler fastenings around the legs.  They were so good that she started selling them and opened a store on here! :D

I think homemade capes are the way to go.  8)

As far as I'm aware no one has actually had any damage done by using the cape that comes with the pleo, however the elastic bands on this cape are very tight around the pleos legs and pull and pinch the skin.  I'm not aware of anyone who has used the pleo cape for long periods of time on their pleo because all of us have been concerned about the damage that might be caused by long term use due to the elastic bands.  There are a few things you can do if you want to use the cape - you can put socks on your pleo and then put the elastic bands over the top of the socks.  If your handy at sewing you could cut off the elastic bands and attach a couple of strips of material and some velcro to fasten around the legs instead.
Or you can do what most of us here have done and go for a different type of clothing altogether.  I have a shop here on the forum where I sell pleo clothing but there are others who sell clothing made for pleos here on the forums too.  Also I think there is a seller on ebay who does pleo clothes.  Otherwise you can always try dog clothes.  A lot of small dog clothes will fit a pleo, it is always best to take the pleo along to try things on before you buy though as some dog clothes can be too tight around the legs or too loose around the neck areas.  Another option is to make something yourself.  :)

If your interested in what is available here on the forums just click on the stores tab at the top of this page under the shout box. :)

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to just put the cape occasionally. And if after a while if it's skin begins to rub and chip I will get the pleo-skin colored cape and then attach some fabric to the inside of the elastics to protect it's skin.

Hello everyone.

My Pleorb, Pinky has been wearing the brown Pleo cape for three days now. I really like how well it protects her skin and everything, but the rubber bands still worry me. The elastics seem soft against her skin but after hearing what others say about rips in the skin I am kind of worried ):

Just to explain, this first came up with an old Ugobe Pleo that had very worn, rotten old skin that was falling apart - the owner tried using a cape but the bands made the already disintegrating skin on the legs even worse.  It would not be so worrying on newer Pleo skin. :)

Thanks, but I already bought her a sweater meant for dogs.  It's simple and pretty, shades of pink and red with a dark green trim and fits her really well! It's soft to!
