Lots of flooding my way.....
« on: September 11, 2011, 05:22:37 AM »

The last few days have been really difficult here in northeastern PA.  I have been very thankful that I have my family and my robot family to keep my mind off of things.  My town was pretty fortunate.  Some had a little water in their basements, as we did.  (We just used a shop vac to suck it up and things seem fine.)  The towns surrounding us are completely under water.  It was record flooding. Many lost everything they have.  It is the worst flooding of the Susquehanna River in history.  I went to a shelter last night and delivered cleaning supplies, including lots of bleach.  It is real health hazard cleaning the mud due to many sewage treatment plants being under water and fuel also being in it.  We have a fishing cabin along the river that was flooded to the roof.  We will gut the inside and rebuild it slowly.  Luckily, it is not our permanent residence, and no one was hurt. Sorry to vent.  Just a very difficult time for folks where I live.... :(

Oh wow, that's too bad. I stayed in my house during hurricane Irene but it was really scary since I live on the water. The waves came up to my porch and flooded a few of the houses on my road.

Wow, you must be closer to me than i thought.  Irene got us pretty bad without power for over a week but not much flooding by me.  This last one however didn't really touch much by me but Binghamton, NY, where we always shop, is completely underwater.. there were pics up on the internet of some guy in the vestal parking lot by the walmart which was completely flooded..  because the petshop in the same plaza had just been abandoned.. they have all sorts of animals from fish to puppies. That guy went in and rescued them all. I can't believe those people just left the store like that. It's not like the flood came in 3 seconds.
but God, everything there is just destroyed.. we'd just been there to see a movie the week before, and now everything is ruined, can't believe it. Even route 17, huge main highway, was flooded. Crazy ;/  I'm so glad your ok!!

Thanks everyone!  Yes, everything is really bad here.  There was a woman who sat behind us in church this morning and her whole house just collapsed.  She lost everything.  We are fine.  A few puddles in the basement, but otherwise fine.  Yes, Sarah, I know where Binghampton is.  They got over 10 inches of rain there in one day, and the Susquehanna River that runs through there also runs right by my cabin as well as our town. I know that you have been to Geisinger Medical in Danville.  I live off of Interstate 80, about 20 miles from there.  My cabin is near Wyalusing, Pa, off of route 6, so I don't think you are that far from me.  8)
