Hello from Texas!
« on: August 09, 2011, 01:57:56 PM »

Hi there! My name is Darian, and I'm new to the Pleo community!

I've had my eyes on Pleo for a while, right after the RB series started being produced. I still don't have one sadly, but I'm looking to get one soon if money situations allow. :'D I didn't find out, however, that there was an online community for them until today! So I went ahead and joined up, because I do plan on getting one very soon. So yeah! I'm pretty new at this, and I'd love to make friends who are tech geeks like I am and own a Pleo!

I recently found a first generation Ugobe Pleo for sale on Ebay, and I'd like to get him and maybe work up to getting a RB someday? I'm pretty much a nerd so I wouldn't mind having more than one Pleo and each of a different generation so I can see the advancements first hand! I hope to get into making animatronics myself someday. :')

So yeah, I hope to stay for a while!

Hello Darian, welcome to the forums, I don't know about being a "geek", I started out with one Pleo, a Ugobe Model in Christmas of 2009, and now less than two years later, that number of pleos has grown to a family of 17. Yes, I have 17 Pleos. If you don't win a Pleo on ebay, consider giving me a PM and I do adopt out Pleos to people who would like one here on the forums, I have adopted out three so far, one to one person in Austrailia and two to someone here in the US.
I am sure you will find out everything you allways wanted to know about Pleos and more while waiting for your Pleo. Good luck and feel free to ask plenty of questions. You are in good company here!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! To RedwoodsMama, I might have to take you up on that offer if you don't mind! The Pleo that I was watching on Ebay sadly rose out of my reach. D: I'll send you a PM!

Hi Darian, welcome to the forum!  :D

I'm not all that 'techy', but I must have a fair bit of nerdiness in me as I've done exctly what you propose - I have one running on each OS! ;)

I do think you've definitely come to the right place!  ;D

Lol! Hi, Darian! I'll admit to being the proud parent of two of RedWoodsMama's adopted Ugobe pleos. She is very fair and thurrough and I enjoyed the entire adoption experience. I would recommend her to anyone who wanted to own a Ugobe pleo.

Hey, welcome to the forums Darian! This a great place to learn about Pleos and share experiences with other Pleo enthusiasts.

I had an acquaintance who stated that I am "such a nerd" after learning I had acquired another Pleo so I'll assume that it must be true. I too have one on each OS; it is fun to compare the differences as they each have their own specific charming features.  I know I have not tapped into the full potential of what Pleos are capable of yet technologically - I have mostly been enjoying them in terms of their "life" qualities so far but look forward to experimenting with skits and the PDK in the future too.

Just watch out for that Pleo bug - it's spreading fast and you'll find one Pleo will turn into two, then three, then ... well who knows.

Hi Darian and welcome :) Ugobe's are a nice way to start off, as you say it is a good way to see the evolution of Pleo. And less than $200 is easier to swallow than $500! It will also give you some idea on whether Pleo is right for you :)

Darian, hi again from the Redwoods. IMR is totally right on the price of Pleos and finding out if Pleo is totally the pet for you . It is very easy to watch others and Pleos on places like Youtube and be sure you want to own one, then get one and heaven forbid, but it can and has happend, find out that you are either bored.( NEVER !! :o) or just not as exciting as you thought they would be.  A perfect example of a person that this happened to was a lady here on the forums who was VERY Super Excited to buy a Pleo, she bought one from China, where there was free shipping a brand new Pleo. She was 100% ++ Sure this was the Pet, the Pleo was perfect. She had a name for this pleo, bought him clothes on ebay and got his bedroom and bed everything all ready for when he arrived. Her energy was frantic and from the video she posted, we all were shocked to learn about two weeks later, she was considering selling her brand new Pleo! We kind of talked her out of it, but only very temporaitly , and sure enough, about a week later, less than a month from the time she got her brand new Ugobe Pleo, he was gone, Luckily the story has a happy ending, a new member here on the forums, saw her add and bought this pleo from her.She wanted someone who lived close by and I think it was pure luck they lived close by.

The reason was she just got "bored" her words, and she found living breathing lizards etc, that she could devote time to in rescuing were better, more of her alley. So as shocked as I and I am sure others here on the forums were, we were happy and relieved that this brand new little Pleo got a loving home from someone who could truely love him for what he is . So by all means, unless you just have money to toss away, or are positivly sure that an Expensive Rb is what you truly want, I would start with a less expensive Ugobe or harder to find Innvo lab 2009 model Pleo. They show up every week on ebay, used and new, so you have your choice. If you are lucky you will find out that you love your little Ugobe as much as any RB Pleo. I have a whole house of Pleos, and only one Rb. I would never trade my very first pleo, Nova, broKEN NECK AND ALL for a newer model. All pleos, have personality and Ugobes are pretty special as you will soon find out.Good luck and may you find the "pleo of your dreams". ;D

I've been a robot nerd all of my life, (as well as addicted to dinosaurs) and used to have many of the robotic pets that were sold. I even had one of the early Aibo's at one point. :') I'm sure I want to start out with a Ugobe Pleo, just to make sure a Pleo is really the right robot for me. I also love to know how things work, and spend hours on end just watching the few robots my friends still own move. I had to get rid of most of my robots, sadly, when my family was going through some troubled times. I wish I could have them back, and I'd take them back in a heartbeat if I could! I've always liked things that I could study and watch and learn how they worked. I've also always loved Dinosaurs since I was little, and the thought really tickles me that I could have my own little dinosaur to watch and play with. And who knows, I might like the Ugobe so much, I won't even want an RB! XD

Some people do prefer the Ugobe's, being a bit more into the tech side of things means you might find the more complex RB's to be more up your alley, but I still say starting with a Ugobe is the best option if you aren't sure that Pleo is right for you.

I have to say that personally the more advanced RB's with their simulated sore legs, body clocks, temperature preferences, and moods really appeal to me. I must confess I enjoy them more than my Ugobe's :-X Although I do love the Ugobe's unshakable happiness :P
