Just for the record Allo, I only use paint too, paint.net is a completely free program as is the .gif animator I use
How to make an animated gif:First work out how you want it to look and how many frames it will take. (A frame is every single change you want to appear) for example:
My 'where oh where' Pleo ad uses just five frames, one of each picture, I draw them in paint and save them as pleo1.gif, pleo2.gif and so on...
I animate it with a program called unFREEz by dragging each frame in order from 1 to 5 into the 'frames' box, then I set the options, check the loop animation box and enter 500 cs under frame delay and then save

PLEASE NOTE: You cannot view animated .gifs on most computers, you will need to upload them to photobucket or similar to see the animation.
My third entry there the one that has each letter appearing after the other took 35 frames, one for each letter and two for the website part, the frame rate on that one was 30 cs. (I think

)
Added tips:To create a pause drag the same frame in several times in a row, to make something blink drag one frame, then the next frame, then drag another of the first frame back in, repeat as desired.
If you like I can do a proper tutorial for it, but you need to play with it to get an idea of how it works
