pleo news updated regularly
« on: August 03, 2011, 07:16:47 PM »

i think that Innvo should post us regular information  on what will be next for Reborn be it any new firm ware updates , any more accessories or what is the Innvo team up to at this moment ? have they been working on any more improvements for RB ? Would be nice just to hear from Innvo about anything on Reborn as i am sure it has been a few months now since we have heard anything from them i may be wrong ???

be it they get the info here on this site or they have a news feed on the pleoworld website that actually updates at least once a month would be cool and would give us the sense that Innvo company is still active and working on improvements etc

I agree, still waiting for that Eblast from PleoWorld about Pleo, I can guess things like, a updated 2012 version comming out this year, or a coupon discount, though that would not take forever to announce, so it must be something big. I just hope they tell us before I need a rocking chair....................come to think of it, I like rocking chairs, so heck, just announce somthing to us. ;D Would be nice to have a monthly type newsletter though....

I think the e-blast was supposed to be about the Facebook competition - that's my guess, anyway!  %)

I would personally be really ticked off if they announced a new model when this model has so many issues still.. maybe if they offered some kind of discount for the folks like some of us who have purchased quite a few and been through a lot of the screw ups..

Barrett, I hope your problem has been taken care of and I missed it in a different topic? I assume your trying to order a green one and not one of the ones from Hong Kong? Best of luck

yep it is def the green RB's i am liking and will buy  :)

when you say you will be ticked off because of so many issues with rb could you explain more on what issues you might still be having with your rb ?

i was hoping and also thought that they solved the issues with skin by now as i have not heard so many complaints recently..

No, they still have skin/paint issues as the color does come off, the rubber rubs off, I know it's the only robot with rubber skin but they need to come up with something better, we shouldn't HAVE to put clothes on them to protect them (and the 'shirt' they send with them actually damages their legs because of the tight rubber bands) The skin just isn't made to hold paint and they need to keep working on it until they find something that will hold better.

I think there are still problems with the programming, they have promised updates and stuff but we don't get anything.. they promise more items, more enriched programming to make them do more or interact more but we get nothing.
They just have so many things they need to work on, even with their company, especially with their company (customer service..etc) that I don't see why they'd be working on a new model. And I'm an idiot.. I'd probably still buy the new one because I do love my Pleos..

I'm not saying just MY personal RB's because Mine have had quite a few issues.. but I've had almost all of them replaced under warranty.  One was constantly freezing before getting a software update that I had to get from a member here because Innvo ignored me and refused to help, then his tail broke.. I think 1 or 2 wires, not sure but it happened out of nowhere one day.. just boop.. it was broken.
Unfortunately, both of my current RB's have broken a wire in their tails.. they just broke suddenly seemingly without cause so I'm thinking that's something that could potentially be a problem.  The tails still work, just one Pleo can't wag up and one can't wag sideways and since they are out of warranty, there's nothing I can do about it. And no, i didn't drop them or anything like that, they didn't slam them into anything, My one Pleo actually broke her's while sitting on a book next to me in my hospital bed last week, one of them just snapped during normal use. I DO have really bad luck so that probably adds into it, lol, but i promise it was just normal use and they have broken, so I think maybe they need to improve the strength of the tails like they improved the strength of the necks when going from the Ugobe Pleo model to the RB model.
My green RB has the bad paint issue but I could have replaced him and opted not too since I am sick of getting replacements and they wouldn't just replace his skin for me even though they have done skin replacements for other people.

Wow, is this problem for all Pleo including the Ugobe (I have Ugobe).  And does it depend on how long you have it? Are we better off tapping the sensors instead of rubbing our Pleo's sensors?  I'll cry if my Ozzy peels or breaks a tail etc. (knock wood)

tapping the sensors is what i do LOL , as with the paint peeling that will always be the case on rubber skin i am afraid  :(

Kinda improvements i would like to see is pleo actually seeing and taking more notice of its surrounding's , walking towards people when seeing them through some kind of recognition update , as for any newer models i would like to see pleo being able to walk faster still and move better on a variety of surfaces .

I don't believe anyone else has reported a snapped tail wire or peeling paint on an RB. (Just trying to keep things in perspective) and I don't know why you've had such terrible luck Latrine. But overall I don't think the RB's are any more prone to problems than any other complex piece of technology. It is all very well to say 'make it better', they have made great improvements over the originals but research and development takes time and costs money and Pleo being a niche product is not going to make millions a day to fund such developments. If Innvo isn't to follow Ugobe into extinction then they have to watch their bottom line and that means that they can't pour money into improvements for Pleo unless they sell enough to offset some of the costs. They've already spent money to buy the product, make changes, produce the RB and deal with the teething problems and I doubt very much that they have recouped that initial outlay yet.

Jett, Ozzy is an original Pleo and his paint WILL wear off if you don't take steps to prevent that from happening now.

I also had a pleo with a broken tail wire.  Kermit my very first plao rb.  She also had a back leg that just stopped working amongst other issues but she was one of the first batch of pleo rb's which did have some teething problems and she was replaced by Innvo.  Her tail like Latrines guys ones just broke unexpectedly through normal use.  But again like Latrine I have not been very lucky with my guys either and had a few issues and a few replacements.  :(  But they do seem to have resolved the major issues that came up with the first batch of pleo rb's and there don't seem to be anywhere near as many issues coming up now with the newer pleo rb's.
Like IMR says improvements take time and money.  I am sure that Innvo is working on various improvements and we will slowly over time start seeing some more of these filtering through.  We just have to be patient.

So far it seems the best thing to do to protect the skin and minimize wear on any pleo is to put clothing on them and be very gentle and light with your touch when you stroke them.  Many people just tap the sensors and find this works well for them.  Hope this helps. :)

Pleos are pretty tough, Jett, but the neck and tail cables are the places most likely to go if there are problems.  As to skin care, as Kat says you can help protect the skin with clothing, as many of us do, and also try to keep the rubber in good condition with a cleaner or polish.  There's a thread here that goes into detail on the best things to use, but Innvo suggested Pledge polish for the Pleo RB's skin and that will certainly help.  :)

We've had a few snapped tail wires, I believe, from speaking to them about it when it happened to one of my other ones.. and I said in my post that my one Pleo, Jules, was not the norm at all.. his paint is just horrible and I could have exchanged him but decided not too because I was sick of exchanging them.. all Pleos will have slight wear and tear but nothing like what I was describing.  Still, the paint could be better, I think we all know that... they shouldn't 'HAVE' to wear clothing to protect it.. IMO. Not that i don't like putting it on them :)

As for Innvo covering their costs.. they should try advertising their product.. They don't even seem to want to deal with people who would like to try and sell them. :(

Well that explains why we can longer order them from Innvo Global if we are in the UK.  I wanted to order a cape for an original Pleo and customer services were very kind and said they would try to arrange that via their Hong Kong office but I am wary of the shipping which I hoped to find on their website before ordering.

Looking at the robopolis website I see that the price for Lego Mindstorm is way more than we can get it here so I wonder what Pleo rb will cost.

The e-blast was going to be about the Facebook competition.  There wasn't goign to be any other news.  Don't know what happened to the e-blast.

My one Pleo actually broke her's while sitting on a book next to me in my hospital bed last week,
The sitting position, reached by the Play learning stone in the Pleo RB, puts a lot of stress on the tail wires and I do not recomment using it at all unless the tail is able to move freely (i.e. Pleo is sat with tail hanging over a ledge).

degers, thanks for letting us know about the stress put on the tail by the sitting routine, I try to not do that one even with the older Pleos, unless like you say the tail is hanging over a ledge for example, makes sense that it would put undue stress on tail cables. I have'nt tried any of the "trick or play stone tricks yet", but that is one I will bypass or be careful with. Thanks again. :)
