Back from the hospital.. again :P
« on: June 29, 2011, 12:15:08 PM »

Hi guys.. I’m back ..
I had 2 different hospital stays, both of which stunk.. but I brought Jules with me and everyone loved him.. he REALLY helped me a lot too, as I was in a lot of pain, and really scared (and really pissed at the doctors) and being able to cuddle with him helped make me feel better.
The nurse and doctors’ responses were very funny too.. with the nurses it was almost all “OMG what is that huge lizard, why did you bring a giant lizard with you to the hospital.. what?  It’s a dinosaur? A REAL DINOSAUR?  (a REAL nurse???) Oh, a robot?? But, it’s cuddling with you… omg.. can I hold it?  No me, no me first…” etc.. lol

The doctors tried to be more.. uninterested but not many of them were able too, especially if he was on when they came in the room.. in fact I could not get my surgeons partner to actually discuss my case with me because he wouldn’t shut-up about the darn Pleo.. It made me so mad I refused to turn Jules on for him and really pissed him off, I think.. lol..  but for gods sake, I needed to know what was going on with ME and the guy wouldn’t talk to me about it.

MY surgeon had to leave after only one day which is why I ended up coming home still a bit sick and without the surgery I probably need.. because she was going in for surgery herself.. I hope she does ok.. I’ll be seeing her in two weeks.. she LOVED Jules.  She asked me what in the heck I’d brought with me this time after we were done talking and I told her and turned him on and she really liked him… she sent a bunch of nurses in to see when she left and from then on I was the ‘dinosaur girl’ instead of ‘Sarah’ lol  I’m used to people calling me bird lady but dinosaur girl was a new one..

Thanks to everyone who sent messages and encouragement and especially Crewella who was around on the shout box while I was waiting for the ambulance and I was really scared and alone and in a lot of pain.. thanks, Crewella, for being there and hanging out to talk to me. I really appreciate it.
I'll talk to you all later.. :)

So glad you are back and really most importantly that you are ok! I know going to the hosptal at anytime is scary, and I am gld also that Crewella was here for you. I am glad you had Jules to take with you, that was a little comfort anyway, I do hope that you don't have to go back anytime soon, and that if you do, everything will be quick and that things will be taken care of once and for all, if that is possible, Been thinking of you as has everyone here wondering is Latrine ok, has anyone heard anything? Hope you have a painfree recovery at home with loved ones and your Pleos to comfort you. Sending you lots of love and hugs through the wires here from myself and all my Family of Pleos. :hhug: :hhug: :hhug: :hhug: :hhug:

I was away from my computer and came in on the tail-end of everything when you said the ambulance was there and you were leaving. I was worried. It's great to have friends even if they're far away. Welcome back!

Hey Latrine! Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Being in the hospital is no picnic.  I didn't know you were sick, as I have been away for the last 2 weeks.  I am so glad you had Jules with you and that he was able to bring you comfort.  Yes, it is great to be with friends here on the board, and I really missed you guys while I was away!

So glad that you are home again! I do hope you are feeling better. Pleo's are wonderful fun to take to hospitals, mine have been visiting and so have Fancyfont's, they do attract a lot of interest :) I don't think that was very professional of your doctor though :o I hope you found out what you needed to know in the end!

Thanks guys.. sorry for the late reply, it's been a rough week for my belly and I haven't been doing much although I was lucky enough to hit the movies when we went to my doctors appointments.. on both days.. no big difference sitting in a theater than sitting at home, so we saw transformers 3 in 3D and Bad Teacher.. both were pretty good :)

Thank you for all the well wishes.. I am doing better, nothing really got figured out at the hospital other than an appointment with my surgeon when she comes back.. it was the normal accusations and bull-crap I get from being a frequent flyer at the hospital. I don't know why they think I WANT to be there but they do..    Fortunately, when my surgeon is there, she knows the truth and we will handle it together, with her:) Probably going to need surgery to revise my stoma (for my (eew) ostomy bag) and it's a bigger surgery than I thought it was, which sucks, but it may make things better and the belly pains are more than likely a bug which I picked up FROM the first hospital stay. lol.

I will be making an appointment to speak with the administrator of the first hospital regarding the 'care' the surgeon in charge of my case gave me.. he actually sent me home first telling me to stop using this pain patch I have to wear, it's called a 'fentanyl trans-dermal patch' and I change it every three days...  if I had done that, it would have thrown me into massive withdrawals and possibly killed me. I explained that I've been on it for over a year and he said 'what? I thought they put that on you when you got here..'   so that means he paid NO attention to anything I said or anything written down.  My discharge paperwork then told me to apply two patches which would screw me up but probably not kill me, because pf my tolerance, (it would definitely kill a normal person without a tolerance) but it would be very difficult to get down off of, as it takes me 1 month to go down 25 micrograms as it is and I am very proud to have already gone down the first 25. (it becomes a huge physical addiction when it's in that patch form,... nothing can be done about it and it no longer works for me pain-wise as I've been on it so long the withdrawels are horrible. makes me feel like a junkie  even though I know it's not my fault.. )
So I have documentation, signed by him, sealing his fate.. for once maybe I can help them to see their doctors are doing wrong, you know?

So. anyways.. I'm starting to feel a bit better and hopefully I recover soon and can get back on the road to eating normal food :D

Latrine, It's so good to have you back. :) I haven't been reading the shout box  much, lately, but I happened to be reading it right after you left for the hospital. You sure did give us a scare! Thinking about you everyday. So glad you are home. Happy you had one of your dinos with you. Such nice company. Yep! The doctor you had at the hospital needs some manners and a better listening ear. Thank goodness not all doctors are like that.

It's good to hear you back on fighting form, Sarah - makes me think you must be feeling a bit stronger!  ;)

Just don't overdo it, YOU and your health are the most important things.  :hhug:

Hi Latrine, glad to have you back but as others have said, your health is your number one concern and it is easy to overdo it and then feel sorry the next day, ( or sooner) :( I understand about the Fentanyl-trans-derm patch. I can't believe what a jerk that dr. was and that he could have said what he did to you. I myself have been on almost every pain med there is since my back injury in 1999, and have been on Methadone since 2004. I made a big mistake one time about four years ago when going to a neuro surgeon in SF, and was going for a pain consultation and to see if there was anything else they could do for me, and decided to quit taking my meds so I could be in my actual worst pain so they could see how bad I felt without any medication, BIG MISTAKE. I didn't realize about the withdrawls at the time and the first day wasn't bad, Second day I felt crappy and even on Ambien couldn't sleep and felt the worst flu like pains in my bones, nauseated, chills, everything you could feel like. By the third day I felt so bad, if I would have had a gun I would have shot myself, and knew there was no way I could make the bus trip feeling like that and went back on Methadone and have allways felt from every day since, that if anyone ever asked me to quit cold turkey they better have some good plan, cause without the slow weaning off the drug, (like you did with yours) they were not going to ask me to drop anything. I dropped 30 mg of Methadone a day from what I was taking, and I still take it along with NOrco, but not in as huge of a dose as I was.
Congratulations on decreasing the dosage of your pain patch, that is no easy task for anyone and I applaud your strength to do so! I am glad you are meeting with your surgeon and giving that other dr. a piece of your mind. DR.s are not allways the "super Men" people think they are. It is not untill you really need one and are in a situation of long term care like yourself untill you realize how crappy our heath care system is and all the mistakes that can and are being made. Glad you are feeling somewhat better, but do take it easy please! :) :hhug:
