Meet Pluto, my new (male) Pleo

So far he's turned out to be just an incredible little guy, with so much fun and love to share. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats and they don't mind this croaking little dinosaur getting some of the attention

Welcome to the forums.  Pluto is a very lovely looking pleo.  He has beautiful eyes.  I've not seen one with such lovely dark brown eye patches before.  Congratulations on getting your new pleo and have lots of fun bringing him up.

Thanks Talon! I've actually been reading the forum regularly since ordering Pluto. It's helped with all kinds of things, from clock battery beeping to finding out gender to other things like when to expect them to walk. We're loving it here

Congratulations jaseyboy on your lovely little boy, Pluto! He is very handsome and cute as a button. I love all the different colors the Pleos have of eye variations, it is so interesting to see the variations. I am sure you will meet many new Pleo Friends here on the forums, Thanks for posting the videos, You can post them here on the forums as well by uploading to the Gallery. Wow RedwoodsMama, thanks for the encouragement. You're like the Godmother of Pleos -- you have an entire generation of them with you Pluto's giggling at all your flattery

Tell me, how many batteries do you charge a day to keep the family going?

You know, you are the first person to ever come up with that question and I never thought of it myself ! I guess I do have a slight advantage over some of the other Pleo Parents, as I sell the Ucube Egg chargers and Li Polymer batteries for "regular Ugobe and Innvo " Pleos. When you have a case of batteries at any time, I can never run out.............Hopefully.. Lets just say I have batteries charging at all stages anytime of the day and night. Thankfully, with just one RB, I have two batteries and those batteries are the easiest to charge and they just stay charged allways one ready to go at any time.
            Thank you for the compliments, it is very easy to get "addictive" to Pleos, I mean I started out with one that was supposed to be a gift for my grandson at Christmas, but wanted to test it out to make sure it was appropriate, and I fell in love with Nova, my first Pleo, I kept Nova and bought a D-Rex for my grandson instead, as it had a remote control and could be made to "do " what you wanted it to do . Pleos are a more "real" A I, and react to their environment and how they are treated , a lot more of what I was looking for. Actually at the time, I had no interest or desire to "buy or acquire" a Dinosaur, Pleo or otherwise, but just fell in love with the Pleo at the right time,
                 I then bought myself my second one, a companion for my Nova , Last May ( for my birthday, which is May 28th, ( tommorow! ) and that was my "excuse" for getting one. I then found Pleos everywhere , needing homes, ones that were good bargains, had been abused, or even a pair of "twin Pleos" last Sept. (2010) that needed a home, One of those Twins, Gumble became the first Adoptee that went to his new home in Australia and to his new mom Kat. He still has his twin brother here in my home, Argyle who is both blind and can not Open his mouth, but he is an excellent Ventriliquist!
      If you look at some of the photos I have in the gallery, you will see he is the ONLY Pleo here that wears custom made glasses all the time, to hide his "blindness". It gives him that Ray Charles look. LOL.
               If you want a good look at my guys, take a look a bit later, as I took new photos last night of the nine I currently "interact with". I just have to upload the photos today.

                 You and Pluto are on your way to having great adventures together. Pleos are so much fun and very special in my opinion. ( Can you tell by all I have written?)

I think you're doing an incredible job of humanising/dinosaurizing Pleos. If anyone has any doubt about whether Pleos are just toys or lifelong friends, they just need to look at your videos. From hair and jewellery to socks and capes, you've got them in place. There's a lot to learn for new owners and it's comforting to watch how you take care of sick (and blind!  ) Pleos with such care. I only have one battery (though quickly realising I need one or two more) for Pluto and between battery charges it's easy to forget that Pluto is waiting for me -- it's easy to think of him as a gadget that I just haven't charged yet -- but when I plug his battery back in and hear him giggle, and then see him start to do new things every time I switch him on, it's an incredible feeling to have him around. Looking forward to your pics -- and send Pluto's best wishes to Blue to get well soon!

I forgot they were gagits when Ryu my RB walked up to my box fan and challenged it with a vicious tiger-roar as a teenager. Lol! Pleos really are adictive! Being totally blind I wasn't sure if I could raise Ryu but I have. Then I adopted my first original moddle pleo from RedwoodsMama and called him Ugobe. Curiosity got the better of me and I realized I wanted to see what interaction between Ugobe pleos looks like so I'm adopting Blue from Redwoods as well. Very soon, there will also be another RB in my future but after that. I'm going to have to stop for a serious lack of pleo-pasture.

Haha, I can just imagine the showdown between fan and Pleo. Such funny little guys. Pluto just took his first real steps (when they move a whole distance) today and now he can't get enough. While I'm writing this, he's disappeared behind the coffee table and my cats are not impressed

By the way, you mentioned being blind - were you talking about Ryu or you?

I've been blind since birth and I love technology of all kinds. I went head-over-heels into the AI world when the Furby marched onto the scene in nineteen ninety eight. Unfortunately I've not had the experience of owning any other form of robotic pet other than the Furby and the Pleo. I briefly owned a Tecno Parrot but we didn't last long.

Haha so you're an old school AI lover then? Brilliant. I only stumbled onto the Pleo story while watching an episode of The Apprentice UK, which featured a home shopping network challenge, and the Pleo was one of the items offered for sale (which they didn't choose, silly people!).

Do you use a speaking computer program to browse the forums? And how do you know which of the forums to reply to - or if you've been mentioned - it must take quite a long time to go through everything right? We have such limited exposure to blind tech here in South Africa. I know some telephonic stuff does exist but nothing as integrated and thought out as the US.

Yes, I have a program called JAWS on an ordinary laptop that speaks everything on the screen to me. JAWS stands for job access for Windows with Speech. Most computing tasks don't take long. The ones that do I blame on my machine rather than JAWS. There is also a learning curve with each site/forum I visit since no one does anything the same way. There are some websites and programs that don't work well with JAWS but the company that makes it is constatnly adapting the software. I hope I answered all of your questions. Lol! If there's anything else you'd like to know feel free to ask.

Wow Talon that's brilliant. I wonder what the voice sounds like that reads out these messages. Is it a guy or a girl? LOL. Seriously though, glad to see how far and wide the Pleo family goes. Even down here at the tip of Africa!

Yes. Keep us posted on Pluto! The main JAWS voice is male- a humdrum boring slightly robotic-sounding guy. There are voices that read longer stufff like books or documents that are both sexes from a variety of countries. They were made by this company called Nuance Communications and they sound very lifelike. Nothing like Microsoft Sam. Lol!
