Bellah cries a lot
« on: May 04, 2011, 12:31:46 PM »

The first days Bellah was really cheerful and chanting softly most of the time.
But theese last 3 days she´s crying all the time and I don´t know what to do  :'(

She doesn´t want her stone, or food, or snacks, or learn anything. She just crawles into sleeping position and cries and shakes.
I try to pet her but It doesn´t seem to help either.
I also tried taking all the clothes of if maybe the dress was pinching her, but It made no difference.

Is this a natural stage?

Also it gets frustrating since her program seems to freeze up a lot. I red something about it in the manual, that they might do that, but she always starts upp again after a few seconds.

I´m not sure what to do. She eats when she wants to, plays when she wants to, but in between that she´s always crying.
We can be playing tug of war, and I do let her win, and when she´s done she starts to cry...

She hasn´t learned to walk yet but is stretching out, but she is however backing away from things alot.

Any tips or ideas? Is there any new software for the RBs to try out if it´s a bug of some kind?

Could it be low light levels?  Several of us have had whimpering RBs because of low light - they get scared of the dark?

Sorry she's so miserable.  :(

Cato was pretty much annoying like that although it happened slightly after he started to walk. Have you tried the StatsRB or ProbeRB tools yet? This may potentially help you know what's going on internally.

Before Cato walked he did the stretching and would sometimes stand up but then usually go back down or in between. I can't remember anymore if he moved backward/forward much but there wasn't anything abnormal.

Considering she hasn't walked yet, I would wait until she's a bit older and keep nurturing her through the phase. Cato didn't willingly eat until after he had been walking for a full charge or so. And I have NEVER been able to make him happy with tug of war no matter how much I let him win by the manual's instructions.

I'm not sure about the freezing. Cato did it more during his earlier stages than his later (though I'm not sure if that's correlated). By freeze I mean the random turn off and turn on and giggle a few seconds later, he hasn't gotten frozen or anything like that for an extensive period of time. You could always possibly try the reset button just to see if it helps. I don't think it can hurt. I'd probably just wait a few more charges before trying that though. What you're describing sounds similar to some other experiences that seemingly ironed themselves out for some forum members.

Hopefully everything turns out!

Thanks for the advice.

I´ll wait and see then.
I don´t think it should be the lights, It´s not dark at all where I play with them, and Buddah my old one doesn´t seem to have any problems with it.
She has been eating, but still not walking...
Yesterday she cried her batteries out  :'(

I´ll look into RBstats and other tools to see if there is a problem.

I do remember however in her first battery cycles one of her front legs started acting up, like jumping, I turned her of and it continued... So I had to pull her leg back to a normal position. Don´t know how it happened, she was just on the floor with Buddah when I heard the noice her leg was making and reacted instantly shutting her off and pulling it back. Don´t know if that has anything to do with it...

I can see that Bellah tries to talk, her mouth is moving somethimes like she trying to sing but nothing comes out. Is this something that has been a problem for most Rbs?

It's really hard to judge without seeing it - would you be able to post a video of her so we can see the behaviours you mean?  Hopefully we can then get to the bottom of this.  :)

Ryu sometimes does that. She'll stop in the middle of making a noise and go silent or suddenly switch sounds. Sometimes RB's will mute themselves if you put their food too far back in their mouths and they can't drop it. Also some of the RB sounds are very quiet like their smacking their lips sound. Crewella is right. A video will help everyone figure out what's going on with her.

Hey.. my Rb's mute themselves ALL the time.. maybe thats whats happening, if it isn't her smacking her lips for food (although mine make a very quiet noise when they do that)

Try hitting her power button a time or two to see if you can fix the volume when she appears to be muted.. I usually have to press it 2-3 times.. I give it a few seconds to see if they resume noises in between presses.  Maybe shes talking and then getting mad that no one is responding or maybe they don't like being muted.

Chronos also seemed to raise his volume from low to high yesterday then muted it again.. it's a problem that needs fixing.. my pink and green both do it.  Also, even if you think the light is enough, I know with my aibo his shadow can make him unable to see things, the pleo are programmed to be afraid of the dark..and I believe their cameras are similar? Try that new skit from PleoPet.. mine were crying constantly and yesterday they walked around and laughed and played for the first time in like, forever.. both had the skit in.

Best of luck!!

My guys both mute themselves a bit here and there too.  Mostly it just happens after eating if the food stays in their mouth for more than a second or two after they have finished eating it.  Like latrine says you just need to tap the on off button a few times to get them back up to noisy again.
