I need advice fast, my pembroke welsh corgi just got a little melted m&m milk chocolate. He's a young dog and his weight was withing the limit for that amount of chocolate being harmful, I gave him 2 teaspoons 3% peroxide to induce vomiting, it didn't work unless he did and I didn't notice it in the grass. He seems fine, but it scares me, I listened to his heart beat and it was steady, I'm about to check it again because it'll have been 2 hours in a few minutes, I didn't call the vet because it was a small amount and I think I have it under control. Does anyone here have experience with this kind of thing? I think he's fine but I get nervous with my baby.

Update: "a little" was like 2-3 teaspoons, he seems fine, I checked his heart beat again, and he's fine, he was more interested in barking at the stethoscope than anything else.  That's my normal stupid little guy  .

Corgis are hardy-- I would know, since my little brother IS one.  I don't know how much a small amount would be considered, but perhaps you should still call the vet.... Just to get official advice, at least.

i honestly think hell be fine.  chocolate isnt like feeding a dog arsnic or anything, yeah its harmful, but it such a tiny ammount hes hardly gonna notice it. we have dogs medium and small who would always sneak some chocolate if they were naughty and theyre still alive!  a tiny bit now and then wont kill them or anything.  its just not recomended for treats at all!!

but some accidental chocolate shouldnt do anything. so calm down

Once, our golden retriever ate an entire bag of m&m's!  We were worried, but she was fine in the end, and we didn't even need to make her vomit.... Golden retrievers are so silly

Hey, watch it there Pirpintine, *he'll* lol. That's funny Allo too,  he's good now, thanks guys.  He's gotten things like that before, (the little pig), grapes, chocolate flavor things, semi-safe people snacks, DRYWALL ect. I didn't call the vet since I could give him peroxide and check his heart rate by myself, (I'm not exactly fond of the town vet for various reasons so I don't do it unless he needs it for sickness, not my nervousness, but I will if anything bad comes up). Thanks again guys, now he wants to go back outside and play like we were supposed to before the incident.

Quite honestly the peroxide was probably more dangerous than the chocolate We no longer use that in Australia to induce vomiting.

Chocolate is bad for dogs, but it is very rarely fatal and certainly a little isn't going to kill the poor thing. My dog got into half a pack once *sigh* He vomited everywhere (without the aid of peroxide ) but he was fine. Next time try some burnt toast, the charcoal neutralises toxins, and its gotta be much pleasanter to swallow, next time please consult your vet before administering peroxide. Some dogs don't have any problem with chocolate at all (but it is still bad for them). Hope your Corgi makes a full recovery.

He's fine now, thanks IMR. Trust me, I know what I'm doing, thank you though. I knew the chocolate wouldn't kill him (like I said, small amount), but it WAS enough to make him get sick, so I decided to use the peroxide and have him throw up from that rather than have the poor baby throw up all night, I am aware that charcoal helps, but by the time I realized he got it, it was better to get the theobromine out of his system because it would have taken effect to much longer afterwards. Salt is a misconception also, it is harmful to dogs, peroxide is the only safe remedy for dogs (charcoal does not stop remove it it just slows it). Thank you for your concern IMR  .

When I was working at a veterinarian office we induced vomiting with Peroxide mixed with water for dogs that had very recently eaten something potentially harmful, especially if it was an older dog and we didn't want to have to knock them out to do the whole charcoal thing and/or draining the stomach. We also told folks to use peroxide mixed with water based on dog weight if they called in a panic before bringing them in.
 
 I'm glad your pup is ok, sounds like you were very worried and very prepared.  I know we had lots of folks worried about chocolate.. it is poisonous to dogs but it seems every dog is different, some end up being just fine with a little bit or a very large amount and some get sick from the smallest amount.  I've never heard anything about salt but they told me at the vets that grape seeds were also poisonous. I never knew that.  I think a lot of these things are more 'potentially poisonous' so better to be safe than sorry and just skip them all together.

I worked at a grocery store when I was like 19, this old lady came in every day, tied her dog outside and always bought a chocolate ice cream sandwich with her groceries which she gave to the dog upon leaving.. ? I told her it was poisonous but she was just an oblivious old lady
