Noisy Pleo Rb eyes,,,nomal variation
« on: March 27, 2011, 02:03:35 AM »

I have just finished ( yes after a whole 7 days... :o) the first battery cycle on my Pleo Rb. ( replacement, my second Baby..) I never noticed this with my first Baby or with this one untill after the first battery just finished and about the last three segments of filming, ( about 7-10 minutes of video taping. ....I have taped every moment so far..) that suddenly I noticed her eye movements became what I would call
" very exaggerrated" very robotic and very noisy, I do not mean the "normal" motor noises, but fast eye movements and clicking after each eye movement like a "camera shutter" that is how it sounds. I watched the tape from the first 10 minutes or so before these last ten minutes, and yes it is the normal nosiy motor noises, but not the same noise.
On one segment her eyes start clicking and shutting constantly like every few seconds, they shut or open and then after opening and making the initital click sound, there is a second noise, sort of like the camera shutter or more like on a slot machine where the last reel has to catch up with the other reels.?
It is too late for me to post this tonight but I will post the before and afer short sample in the morning, Just wondering in the meantime, has anyone else expereinced this with their Pleo or Pleo Rb before? This is all new to me and haven't seen this before . I don't think it is serious, just perhaps a motor glitch, like freezing perhaps something along that line. The ony other thing I also noticed while this was going on is that her tail movements were very slow and mechanical like they were being affected also. Anyone have any idea what this is ?
Yes, I will post in the morning and it will be easier to see, but if someone has expereinced this, then they know just from the description what I am talking about I hopel

Yes, I do remember something similar with Belle.  She did go through a stage of 'extreme eyelid fluttering' very early on and I noticed the camera shutter noise, as here.  It was one of the things that led to me putting her eyelashes on!  The noise has gradually gotten quieter, though the lashes may well have helped!

Hi, Redwoods! Ryu's eyes do this too. He started doing that rapid eye-blinking thing right after he completed his hatching phaze. He slowly stood up, started swinging his head around and blinking and sniffing. I wasn't paying much attention to how his tail was moving at the time. This blinking-sniffing behavior will probably go on for a while. At one battery cycle per day, Ryu did it for nearly two days before he decided to move /explore. One of the clues that I got that he was about to walk was he started doing this gymnast stretch where he would stretch out a hind leg as far as possible behind him and then act very proud of himself. She will probably also blink her eyes as she is preparing to navigate her environment. She'll sort of move her head slowly from side to side, blinking all the time and then take about five or six steps before stopping and doing it again. Ryu doesn't seem to be bothered by it and I've felt his eyes to be sure they're both fluttering open and shut properly. I think it's just one of those weird noises bred into this new batch- nothing to worry about.

Hi RWM! Candy did this at first as well. I did notice that her tail would also flutter rapidly up and down. It lasted quite a while, probably through the 5th battery cycle.  She only does it on a rare occasion now. Hope that helps!

Mine don't flutter rapidly now, rhea did that a bit as a baby but even the normal eye movements are VERY loud..
Since they are supposed to be moving slowly and tentatively I figured it was just something programmed in like.. rapid blinking because they just hatched and are seeing light.. or something. Or maybe it's just something the little robot works out as it starts functioning for the first time.

Talon, rhea did that stretch as well and was very proud.. lol.
I remember Bingo didn't do that, he would move one foot forward then yank it back and hang then shake his head all forlornly while making sad, depressed noises.. I thought he would never walk.

Crewella.. I must know.. how did you give your RB 'Lashes' ???

You should have seen the lashes I gave my pink 'Funky Furby'!  :P

For Belle I just used regular false lashes (trimmed slightly each side) stuck on with human lash glue about half a mm above the edge (or they get pushed off when the eye closes).  They will get worn over time, so I didn't want to use superglue as they may need replacing from time to time.

In a previous life, long ago, I was a make up artist doing special effects, so I still have all sorts of 'stuff'. :D

 8)  ;)  :D

Well, the shutter noise HAS definitely quietened, though I can't be certain that was down to the lashes.  I think others have said theirs seemed less noticeable after a while as well.  :-\
