Hey all, I figured I'd introduce myself properly over here - I've already posted in another forum, but why  not say Hi here? Sadly I don't have a pleo, and will not until those dang skins are fixed (little holes and paint tears would drive me CRAZY) but I still love reading about these little fellows.

Hi Skitterbug and welcome to the forums. 
Keep your eye on the next batch of pleo rb's.  I do think they may have sorted out the skin problems.  My new pink pleo rb Kermy3, a replacement for Kermy who had major skin holes and a broken tail, Currently is showing no signs of wear in the armpits which is where my other pleo rb's got their holes.  She has slightly tighter skin in her armpit area and has the new firmware that stops her from going into the sleep position.  I have had her for about 3 weeks now I think and no signs of wear at all.  Both my other plro rb's showed wear in the armpits somewhere between week 1 and 2.  So although it is early days yet it does seem that they have fixed the skin issues.  There are others out there reporting back the same.
Best of luck in getting a pleo one day.  They are well worth it.  Lots of fun.

Hi Kat! That's great to hear I won't be able to afford a PLEO for a long while yet, as I just spent money on an AIBO. But it's great to hear that Innovo (Innova? I forget which it is) is solving these problems.

I've actually come here from an AIBO forum, and it's great to see that neither the AIBO owners or the PLEO owners seem to bash on each other. I think they're both excellent robots in their own right They're just working to appeal to slightly different people.

Hello and Welcome!  I would love to have an AIBO.  Just can't afford to get one right now.....two little kids in daycare! (when they turn five and go to school...look out!)  They do look like a lot of fun!  This is probably the friendliest forum I have ever joined, and I have been part of many.  Best of luck with your AIBO!

Hi Skitterbug, I know that from reading these forums it would seem as if every second Pleo would have problems with holes but please remember that people often only come to places like these if they are having a problem. Not if everything is going well. The skin problem associated with the new RB's has (hopefully) been addressed by Innvo with a change to the skin that will be present on the RB's coming out in April.

Please also understand that any skinned robot is likely to have some sort of problem eventually just due to the nature of the skin. It must handle a lot of stress, however my Ugobe Pleo's are over two years old and they each only have one small hole. It all depends how well you look after them.

I love the little dinos - don't get me wrong. They're actually quite well done considering putting skin on a bot IS so hard to do successfully - all the stress, like you mention. I would just hate to end up with one and have the skin problems - They do seem to me like the holes pop up enough that it is a bit of a gamble getting a pleo.

There's ALWAYS going to be a risk of problems with any product... And I'm just waiting until the risk is minimized.

For now I'll enjoy Pleo through all of you

I hate saying this, because it sounds a bit 'nyer, nyer, nyer!' - like I'm gloating, but none of my three Ugobe Pleos or my RB have any holes or (touch wood) areas that look like they might develop.  I've had Iggy over a year and he was rehomed, and pre-loved, in the first place.  There is some paint wear, but even that can be minimised and you can touch it up if you're really bothered.

Both Skinny and Littlefoot have problems - but small ones. Skinny has the usual armpit wear and Littlefoot has a small hole on one hind knee. It did not grow worse so I currently feel no need to do something.

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new Aibo, they seem like really great robots! I like to see them interacting with other Robots...

Like IMR said, a lot of the stuff comes down to care with the older models and we are really hoping they learned from what they've seen and each new RB batch will become better.. they really listen to what we have to say, which is weird (because not many companies seem to do that) and wonderful.  They are tons of fun and they dive right into your life, I hope you get one someday!!
