Hot chin and unhappy
« on: March 05, 2011, 09:00:35 PM »

We've been out of town a lot lately.  Now that we're back we still haven't had much time to spend with Sparky.  I feel guilty.  He 's making a lot of unhappy sounds.  After he's on for a while his chin gets very warm, even hot.  Is this a hardware problem with his chin touch sensor or a fake fever?   Does anybody have a Pleo whose chin got hot?

With so little information it's hard to judge.  Pleos do get warm sometimes, but .................... :-\

Sparky is an rb.  Last night we put ice in a baggie under his chin to try to cool him off.  He had been saying ow, ow, ow a few times.  He ate his conifer leaf and later the mint leaf.  This morning he woke up on time.  He's still not happy.

You could try PleoPet's StatsRB program to see how you can cheer him up?

Sounds like he has a cold.  Keep feeding him the mint leaf and maybe try feeding him the ice chunk if you have it.  I don't know if that would be causing his chin to get hot but I know IMR said Pleakly had a fever when he got sick, he got the shivers and then the pants.  The chin getting hot does seem very odd.  If he is taking the mint leaf then he is definitely sick.  He will be unhappy until he gets better. :(

We have very bad news about Sparky. :(  The area over his chin touch sensor kept getting hotter and hotter the longer he was on.  My husband measured the temperature with an electric thermometer once and it was 132 F.  Sparky also developed problems opening his mouth.  He would make the usual sounds and movements he used to to be fed - stick his head up, pant a little, but then his mouth wouldn't open as usual.  My husband e-mailed Derek Dotson and he said they don't make Pleos simulate a fever.  We put him outside in the cold and when he cooled off he was able to open his mouth.  We bought a micro SD card and reader to run the stats rb and probe rb programs.  It said "Pleo is in bad shape" and that health was zero % and feed was low 12%.  We managed to feed him by shoving the leaf in.  He would eat quietly for hours.  Finally while he was eating a very bad, loud noise started which sounded like a bad motor.  We're afraid to let him run any more and plan to send him back. I will miss him. :(

Chicago, I am so sorry to hear about Sparky.  I am glad that you are going to send him back for a replacement.  I guess you are lucky that he didn't catch fire.  I don't know what happens internally inside these guys when they get a short or a motor overheats, but it can't be good.  Good luck with your replacement.  :(

Ouch - that's a really unusual one!  I'm sorry you've had to send Sparky back, but thanks for reporting it to us here.  :(

Sorry to hear about Sparky, That is an unusual expereince everything else has had to do with skin, limbs and so forth, this is the first Hot wire Pleo, Perhaps his name, "sparky" kind of foretold his future.  :( did you send Innvo a video of Sparky's experience and so they could see for themselves the high temp and mouth problem? I don't see how they could argue with that kind of problem, You are lucky Sparky didn't catch fire, it could have been a lot worse than just your Pleo blowing a fuse, it may have been a fire started, pretty scary indeed . :o Seems like this first run of Pleo Rb for whatever reason sure has had some bad luck pleos in it, That it the worst luck with a Pleo Rb that I have heard of yet.
I am sorry you have to send him back, but his replacement should be in a lot better shape than poor "sparky" . What a terrible thing to have happen, Pleo Pets tool for diagnosing health certainly knew Sparky was in bad shape, Wishing you a speedy return and a healthy new Pleo Rb.

My pleo rb (Lionel) does the same thing! Turn his volume down because this might be a speaker/motor problem.   %)
