I've been fascinated by the binary code on the training leaf that Pleo RB comes with ever since I noticed it, and I finally decided to do a little decoding. Unfortunately, the standard decoders of text, numbers, hex, etc. yielded no understandable results. Then I noticed the DNA sequence along the spine and remembered that each Pleo RB comes with a unique genetic code. Is it possible that the binary on the training leaf is the corresponding Pleo RB's genetic code? Binary is often used as encoding for genetic algorithms so it would make perfect sense.

Can anyone else compare this to their leaf and see if they are different? If some of the obscured digits are needed I can type them out.

It’s a really good theory    you know and I’d love it to be the case. 
 However the Innvolabs 2009pleo training leafs   and I think also the training leafs for the original ugobe pleo also have a binary code. 
  I could be wrong but as   far as I’m aware I don’t think any of us ever really got to the bottom of why the leaf has binary code though I’ve often wondered

Both Kermy and Norbit's leaves are exactly the same as yours.

Ugobe Pleos have the same thing, so I don't think that's what it's for.

I was fascinated by it as well on my original Ugobe Pleo leaves.  Whilst I don't believe they serve any function, I can't help but feel that a company as thorough as Ugobe were when they came up with Pleo would have just chosen completely random digits, so I'm kind of expecting a joke in there at least!

Ohh well, it was worth a try. I did notice during my decoding that a few of the sequences translated to p, p1, and p2. There is some coherence there, which may indicate that the digits aren't completely random. I might take another crack at decoding the leaf; I wasn't very thorough the first time because I became sidetracked with the genetic code idea.

Hi All

Has anybody dissected one of these leaves, to see if it holds any secrets?

They may contain what’s known as a passive RFID tag device, see the link below.  You will find these in most all items sold over the counter, they can be embeded into credit cards even wheelie bins.  I know this may be a suggestion too far, but if Pleo has the capability of all she can do, then maybe she is intelligent enough to know when a leaf/food is in her mouth.  On the other hand, it may be the act of keeping her mouth just slightly open that makes her sound as though she is chewing on leaves/grass food etc.

I know that Pleo RB has an RFID sensor, and most of it's accessories have an RFID tag. I also however remember hearing that the training leaf is the one accessory that is identified by sight only because it is used at a distance rather than something to chomp on, but I could be wrong.

I believe you're right, Magnnus - that's what I believe too.  The leaf is the same as for the Ugobe Pleos (that won't work with the chip in the new leaves), just with a little added red colour.

Looks like it is an artistic choice -- cut-and-paste of parts of the same text string
(mostly 0011100000110001000101 or 00111000001100010101)

Too little data to infer what its for (the closest I could come up with is 01110000 01100010 = ASCII "pb" = Pleo rB? -- that's a stretch)

As mentioned, that leaf is simple plastic. The other leafs/toys/stones have RFID chips inside (with the 4 indentations)

I have a ton of those leaves now from RB's and Ugobe's and they ALL look the same except in a few spots where it looks like they ran out of space since it was cut for the leaves.
