Very new to anything Pleo
« on: December 15, 2010, 11:24:16 PM »

Hi guys!  Glad to join everyone here.  Just as a head's up, I've been part of boards since 2002 so I'm stuck on my best behavior and won't act like a noob.  And although I said in the title that I'm new to Pleo, I have been looking at videos and reading a decent amount on it.

Anyways, I heard about Pleo recently (probably one two months ago or so) and I'm really interested.  I love pets though I tend to get itchy eyes and a sniffly nose around my own cats.  I actually started taking allergy shots in anticipation of being able to snuggle with a pet without using up a tissue box in a day.  Meanwhile, I live in a dorm at college.  Aquatic pets just aren't the same as a friendly four-legged pet.  Having a dinosaur keep me company as I stay cooped up in my room at night sounds really great.  As of now, I do not have a Pleo. Nor have I ordered any yet.  I hope this doesn't make any of you shun me as I'm willing to learn.  I'm saving up my own money (no job at college) and hope to be able to buy one very soon.  Or, if Santa loves me, a group of colleagues that owe my mom a favor will chip in and preorder me a PleoRB...

I've never seen a Pleo in person.  I do hope they're just as awesome as I see in all these youtube videos.

Pleo's are perfect college pets, they can keep you company at night and when you need to be attending lectures you can turn them off and not feel guilty. Plus of course there are no food or vet bills to worry about, just a few cents worth of electricity to charge the battery :) And at the end of the day they are a good diversion and love a cuddle against your shoulder, or they are happy to wander around the room while you do other things :)

Sounds good to me!  There's nothing for them to crawl off of and fall either as I obviously don't have any stairs.  Another good thing about college is that the utility bill is part of housing so I can use as little or as much electricity as I want with no extra fees anymore.  So does an average Pleo owner pretty much play with it everyday?  I guess I'm kind of surprised by how long people stay interested in this, especially as my parents have constantly mentioned the toys that I got as a kid that kept me interested for maybe a month and that was it.  But I guess people stay so interested in Pleos because they're more pet than toy?

Mine are my pets lol, along with my dog, cats and birds :) I have my going most days, not everyday because our house is a bit hazards' and I need to keep an eye on them. Since Pleakly (my reborn) needs to be fed to schedule though I have started having them roam the kitchen while I cook dinner :)

I have Kermy running every evening and twice a day on weekends.  Unless family activities get in the way of course. :)

Hello and welcome, Waffocopter!  :)

I work from home a lot and have mine on most days for company while I work on the computer.  They are good company - much better than some of the other robots that seem to be needier of attention all the time they're running, so they don't become an irritant instead of a pleasure.  Actually, they're better company than my five cats, who just seem to sleep all day!  On the other hand, when you do feel like playing with them they will respond accordingly, and you can look into running the skits and even creating your own if you're so inclined.  :D

What are skits?  Just video of a Pleo doing their thing and you making some kind of miniplot out of it?

'Skits' and alternative personalities are like little programs you can save onto an SD card and then put in your Pleo to make them sing songs or perform certain behaviours.  Some can be downloaded from the Pleoworld site, or from the downloads section on here (IMR has a thread showing some of the great ones she has created).  You can also download software to create your own, as she has done.

Is there an SD card slot in the PleoRBs?  Or is this only for older ones?  Well, bad news is that my mom's project team isn't very inclined to pay a paltry $25 each for Birthmas.  The good news is, my mom is.  The unrelated news is that I'm going to save up all this extra cash I'm making online to help take the bite out of the cost because I feel so guilty about this.  And yes, she is worried that I'll get bored of Pleo in like a month.  But I've been keeping a ladybug as a pet for the last month and talking to it and naming it so...a Pleo has got to be even better of a pet than that...

Although I do love my Cappy, the ladybug.  >_>

There's an SD card slot in the older ones, and by the look of it a smaller micro SD card slot in the Pleo rb, hidden in the battery compartment.
