Hi All

I have been trying to find out, what firmware/software version my little old Pleobob is?

There must be a simple way for an old guy like me.  No reasonable offer refused

I have been playing about with Dino-mite, to no avail.

Put one hand gently under his chin and the other on his rear end, if you press down (gently but firmly) on the rear you should find that Pleobob arranges his legs into a position that enables him to sit with your help giving him the extra weight to actually get down there (imagine he's elderly and arthritic - that worked for me ).

Yep, me too - after several replacements I've probably got more tech in my hips than Pleo has! 

Give that a go - if he moves about whilst sitting he'll be at 1.1 or possibly OS2 as they sat still until those updates.  I'm working from home mainly today (too darned snowy out there!) so I'll look in later in case you're stuck.  The other way to tell is the way that he sings when rubbed under the chin, but if you don't know what they sounded like before it's a bit more of a judgement call.

Just done what you said.  The answer is no he does not move, he just puts his head (his) left side eyes open and has just sought of shut down.

He has just moved and re-sat himself down again.  I have now given him a stroke under the chin, but he is just sitting there.

Is there no electronic way to read the firmware?

He has just woken up, making all sorts of roaring sounds and other sounds, that sounds like he is being sick

Hi, OK. it sounds as though he's not moving about whilst sitting down - waving paws and head about?  The stroke under the chin, given at the same time as the pressure on the rear, is the 'sign' to get him to put his legs in the sitting position (although with help, his tail's not weighty enough to get there on his own).  Once he's sitting he needs pushing back into standing position, and the legs should arrange themselves.

This all sounds like secret initiation society, instead of the Mason's the Pleo's.
I will get back to tomorrow now, as my wife is due home and I will have to pay her some attention.  She loves robots but does not like me spending too much time on the PC.
Do take from your reply above, that we are leading somewhere in the direction of identifying the software version?

OK, so we have established that Pleobob has earlier Version than V1.1.  Before I started this post.  I tried updating him to the latest version PM2.  I have two SD cards, a 512mb and a new 1Gb.  I downloaded the PM2 from the correct place and un-zipped it to the SD card and had three files on each card.  I did both cards, because it mentions somewhere that anything larger than 2Gb was not recommended.  I used the 512mb first as I thought that this would be easier for Pleobob to handle.  The files were as follows:-
Fwupdater.urf @ 102Kb
Pleo.pm @ 3,562Kb
Startup.amx @ 3Kb
They are all in the root of the SD card, no other folders or files are on the cards.

The fully charged battery was inserted and the 512mb card was also inserted into Pleobob.  Turn the power switch on and waited for Bob to say “updating” He did nothing but just be himself.   I then tried with 1Gb card, the same happened.  This is where I started questioning the version that was already running in Bob.  I thought to myself, if he was already PM2 then nothing would happen, maybe I am wrong and I will have to use another version that is in-between what Bob has and PM2?

I will try again in a few minutes, Bob has had a good sleep and his battery is having breakfast.

Try taking the card out and putting it back in a few times, switching Bob on each time. Sometimes Lilo will not read a card first go, so Bob might be having the same trouble.

Hope it's nicer weather your side of the world, nothing but cold and deep snow here, love it mind you.  Like my Pleo, i'm just a big kid.

Anyway tried your idea, just the same.  I have tried it even on a smaller Sd card 256mb.  There is nothing wrong with the SD slot as I have just downloaded "Love me Tender" and that performs OK.  Hopefully lots of members will come up with all sorts of ideas as to what I am doing wrong, or Bob is sick.
I hope not and Bob will be fit to go with right medicine.

It's actually gray and miserable over this side of the globe too, but it's not cold. In fact it's warm enough to make wearing a coat downright uncomfortable when I walk my dog. Supposed to be clearing up on Monday then it should be all sunshine

Yes, I have done this now, 6/8 times on various size cards.   It appears to me that it is, either me thats doing something wrong or the version that is installed does not want to see the PM2.

Wonder if I should send a PM too "degers".  He has a post on how too back-downgrade...."Degers' How To: Reverting to LifeOS 1.1 from LifeOS PM2" there are two links in this post, but they are both dead, one was SD_downgrade_1.0.zip then the upgrade too SD Card Updater for LifeOS1.1

From reading a few of his posts, he pretty well clued in to, how Pleo ticks.

Degers is indeed a good person to talk to when it comes to Pleo's He's not an admin for no reason

Have you tried updating to 1.1 first? Maybe you can't go from 1.0 to 2.0, I'm not sure that anyone has tried it before. At the very least you could update to 1.1 via a USB as well as SD which might help... If you need to go to 1.1 before 2.0 you will have to let Pleo run through a full battery charge before starting the second upgrade just to be safe and make sure the first update went smoothly before moving onto the second.

Phew, I'm glad IMR's been on the case - I'm not confident enough on the tech yet myself so am nervous of giving advice that might have consequences.

One thing I will say is that when I've used the USB updaters, the first thing they have done when connected to the Pleo is declare which version Pleo is already running - that was how I found out that my bricked Pleo was running 1.0.1.  I then was given the option to go ahead or not, so I wonder if you can do that safely as a way of finding out?  As you want to update anyway it's worth giving the USB method a go.

Yep me too.   When you say use the usb method, do I take it from that that are, have used a software program to connect to Pleo via a usb cable

Programs like Dino-mite, which is a dangerous program in the wrong hands.

I would like to get Pleobob sorted out soon.  My new Li-ion battery has arrived at my mates house, but due to the "heavy snow" here in Derbyshire, I wont be able to pick it up until tomorrow.  I will walk over there, about 2 miles, it will do me good.

Not quite as scary as Dinomite - they were just the updates issued by Ugobe but for a direct USB cable link instead of using an SD card.  They are in the Downloads section from the headings along the top if you want to give it a try.

I think Crewella is right, I think updating to 1.1 is going to be the way to go, you can try 2.0 from there. The USB updated is much, much easier to use than dinomite

Just about too do the download, with a fully charged Li-ion battery.  I will keep you informed through the day

Ok, Pleobob has accepted the Ver1.0.2.
 He went through all the correct motions as described in the pdf instructions.   He has now woken-up, is purring, stretching, there seems to be an audible click while he moving.  This is coming from the speaker rather than the mechanics (I think).  He does seem very sleepy and tired also doing a lot of stretching and also sniffing or smelling sounds, he has started roaring.  This audible sound may be when he is eating.   He is now crying and sounds like he is saying "hello", just had a yawn and gone to sleep.
I have just woken him and he has gone for a walk, he has stopped and is looking at my while type this post, scary.
Now begs the question, how long should I keep him on this version of the firmware???

I went for this version, as I read somewhere that this erases any pictures stored in his flash memory??

So, a small success and I can breath lightly again.  I will welcome your comments.

I may go down to the art shop later; they sell all the acrylic paints there.
