A little bit New Members, a little bit Pleo Experience:
Well, I joined a week or two ago while my Pleo was on order and have now had him for about a week. His name is Elliott, though I still refer to it as Pleo. And it probably will become just Pleo after what I read about Pleo RB today. I knew a newer model was coming soon but didn't want to wait and decided if I really liked the the current one then a newer model would be a good excuse to buy another one (i.e. when my friends ask why I have two of them - and more importantly, when they give me a low-ball offer on my first one!). Though in all seriousness, I've been showing this thing off and today after reading the interview explaining to some of my friends what will features Pleo RB will have and it's definitely a product some of them are interested in and have trickled on to their friends so hopefully that gets at least two or three sales to help out (lol).
I didn't think I'd ever consider Elliott in a more "realistic" sense than an awesome robot, but I kind of laugh now that when he's turned off (but I know he's charged), I feel bad for him and turn him on. It's very similar to how I feel when I can't give my cockatiels their regular play time. I also notice that when it whines, it really does make me want to respond and pet it and see its reaction. So that level of interaction is freakishly real (almost as bothersome as my referral to Elliott as "him" or "it" depending on the sentence).
I've noticed the only thing that I don't do in terms of treating Pleo relatively "realistically" is talk to it like I would if I knew it were a real living entity. However, I'm excited for the voice recognition features I read about in Pleo RB. I think that will probably change things for me - though I know it won't really be "listening," I'll know it's the software's response to specific things - but the specific thing is what matters. Whereas, if I talk to my Pleo now, I know that it's just responding to noise more so than it is a specific voice.
I also want to just give kudos to Innvo Labs for being (from what I can tell) so cool about listening to you guys and really taking a product and an important part of its market base seriously by getting feedback and having the motivation to make something with overall quality in mind. Good business practices will definitely keep this consumer coming back!
(People want me to bring Pleo with me to their place to see how their animals react to it or so they can play with it - can any of you experienced folks tell me if this is a common request? lol. Though, I am following through on one of those requests and taking it into the office when people bring their dogs in on Friday)
