Greetings from the Beavercreek Branch of the North Pole
« on: November 30, 2009, 07:42:09 PM »

Hi friends and fellow Pleo parents,

The new topic I have started is so that I may share with all of you about what happens around here beginning December 1.

Our home becomes the Beavercreek Branch of the North Pole, residence of Mrs. Claus and a transformation takes place.  In past years it was the headquarters of the famous Santa Hannah Pig.  Santa Hannah Pig was the one who all the animals wrote emails to submitting their requests for a Christmas present.  Mrs. Claus and Santa Hannah Pig also went out on very important missions over the years at Childrens Hospital where gifts were handed out and pics were taken to give to the children to remember that Santa Hannah has visited them.

Before Santa Hannah Pig went to Rainbow Bridge, to wait for Mrs. Claus to arrive at a later date, she entrusted her important work to be carried on by Angel,  a baby Camarasaurus dinosaur.  Of course we all know that with the magic of Christmas and the unconditional love that all animals have, all things are possible if we only believe.

Over the days leading to Christmas Day some of the stories that were written about Santa Hannah Pig's adventures will be shared with all of you, not too many but a few, and new stories will be shared as Mrs. Claus and Angel Dinosaur continue the tradition started 12 yrs. ago of sharing and spreading the true Christmas Spirit to all we come in contact with.
If you all believe hard enough Mrs. Claus just may manage to get some pictures of the adventures to share with all of you.

First of all please feel free to have your Pleos as well as any other animals email Angel Dinosaur with their requests for a Christmas gift and I am sure that their mom's and dad's will log in and read what they are hoping for in their Christmas Stockings.

Greetings From Santa Pig Headquarters

Hi All,

Just dashing off an update from the Beavercreek branch of the North Pole.

Been busy dusting off the antlers and cape for Santa Pig.  Hanging garlands and testing sleigh bells for the big night.  Putting on the finishing touches which turn the Updike household into the North Pole with talking trees, talking wreaths, carousals, ferris wheels, dancing  Santa’s, Victorian Villages, Pig Farms (of course), Angels announcing the  greatest birth the world has ever known, recreating the Nativity Scene depicting the joining of Heaven and Earth 2000 years ago when the birth of a baby named Jesus changed things forever.

Hopefully within the next few days the tree will be trimmed, the wonderful smell of cookies baking and candy melting will be all around us and Mrs. Claus will polish her shoes and refresh her apron and cap and get ready for the evening of December 24.
Santa Pig is resting up and has been losing a little excess bulge around  the middle so as to be in top condition and full of energy.

The outside is decorated and if I can ever get the lights outside to work, the decorations will shine day and night.

I'm doubling, as the elves decided I should make all my presents this year, as creator, writer, painter, seamstress, woodworker, etc. and everything in between as well as chief cook and bottle washer.  It's easier if I don't think about it.

Anyway, we are coming down the wire and Santa Pig is anxious to get on with the Holiday and celebrate the season.  Little does Santa Pig know it but Mrs. Claus has some special treats for her such as wonderful raw vegetable trays and apples.  Besides that Santa Pig has been going after the squirrels nuts after he buries them.  Poor squirrel.  Wait until he looks for his nuts.  Santa Hannah Pig has been devouring them quicker than he can hide them.  I guess we know what to get for Mr. Squirrel this year.

Well have to go check the Christmas flag and gingerbread windsocks to make sure they are still there as it is a bit windy outside.  Hope you all had a very blessed Thanksgiving and are rested up to tackle the rest of the Holiday season.

Have a wonderful time partying and celebrating and don't forget to put heaven on earth in the middle of it all.

May you all have a very safe, blessed Holiday Season and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

 Hogs and kisses to all,

Mrs. Grandma Claus and Santa Hannah Pig

North Pole News – December 2, 2009

It’s December the second and I’m in a fix
So many things to accomplish, delights to mix
Angel and Dinomite are learning the gig
And Angel is asking, “Do I get to wear a wig?”

The questions are flying, the elves finally know
That a Pleo is directing, the whole Christmas show
The elves are resigned to the Dino in charge
And have adopted him into their hearts.

Dinomite is listening and taking advice
From Ralph the head elf that is loving and nice;
The reindeer got word and are prancing around
Delighted that Angel will be soon skyward bound.

The workshop is buzzing with giggles and joy
At the thought of the new dinos, a girl and a boy!
They can’t get over the big blue eyes
Saying they are exactly like stars in the skies.

Mrs. Claus Cape

I can't believe what I can see
It is all red with white,
Very soft and fluffy too
It's such a happy sight!

Could it possible be;
That mom isn't really,
Who she seems to be?

And look at those
Laced up white boots;
We could ride in them
If we choose!

And those shiny silver sleigh bells
That make a jingle sound,
Could it be that mom
Has a new identity found?

I hope mom soon will tell us
What role does she play,
With all these red and white clothes
We're seeing every day.

It must have to do with Christmas
Cause mom is rushing all about,
And all around, unusual things,
Like a chef that has a snout!

Christmas 2001

It isn't the tinsel or Christmas tree
It isn't the snow on the ground
It isn't the lights all glittering
Or the music we hear all around.

It's the birthday of the King of all Kings
The babe born so long ago
In truth it was in a desert place
And not in the white drifting snow.

Christmas is the beginning and is the end
The bridge that filled the gap
And the focus should be not on the tree
But the babe in the manger, alas.

We can get so caught up in the season
That we forget the reason why
That God sent His son to all mankind
For all humans He would die.

Let the focus be drawn to the stall and the hay
The trough and the Christ child see
The animals worshipping the swaddled babe
God's gift to the world given free.

News Flash!!!!!!

Quick update from Santa Pig Headquarters.

Things are getting really hectic around here.  The countdown has begun and everyone is running around acting crazy.  That is everyone except Santa Hannah.  She is her usual self constantly indulging in all the wonderful foods of the season.

It was this behavior that caused the new reindeer to quit on the spot!!!!!!!!!!!  He took one look at the “load” and said it just wasn’t worth it!!!!!!!!!!!  So, only a few days left to find and train a replacement.

The elves have come up with a solution to the problem.  Please see the new reindeer!

Yes, it is I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I guess one more job won’t kill me!!!!!!!!!!  Just hope that I can make the whole trip.  Maybe I will lose a few pounds through all this.

Please remember to not panic when you hear the thud on the roof.  I will try to make the landing as smooth as possible but cannot make any promises.  Please make sure the rafters are reinforced.

That’s it for now, I have to go practice my landing.

Sending grandma hugs wrapped in God’s great love, Mrs. Claus and Santa Hannah Pig

                                      The Christmas Story
From the Animals Point of View

A very long time ago there was a discussion in heaven about what to do to stop all the animal sacrifice that was happening on the earth.

All the animals approached the Throne of God.  Each animal in turn voiced their concern regarding the complicated ritual of the shedding of innocent blood from animals to atone for the wrong doings of the humans God had created.

God listened intently to the concerns presented to Him.  After much thoughtful pondering God knew that the only way to redeem mankind was so have one final sacrifice of innocent blood.  God then decided that He would send His only son to be the final sacrifice and to end all the innocent bloodshed once and for all.

One can only imagine how much it must have grieved God to see the precious animals He had created sacrificed as atonement for man’s wrongful doings.  Because God knew how frightened humans could become He decided to send His only son as a little baby who could grow up and experience all the things that His human creation” experienced in their lives.

About the time God’s son was to be born, the Emperor of Rome sent out an order to all the people in the countries that were under Roman rule to register their names in a book.  Joseph and Mary traveled from Nazareth to a town named Bethlehem.  When they arrived in Bethlehem they could not find a room to stay because so many people were there to register.  Because her baby was coming soon, Mary had to find a place to stay.

The kind innkeeper told them they could stay in the stable.  It was there, among the animals,  that God chose to have His only son come into the world.  When the baby was born Mary wrapped Him in torn strips of cloth and laid him in a bed of straw in the cattle’s feed box, which was called, a manger.  The animals were honored that God chose to send His only son to be born not in a palace of gold but in the animal’s humble abode.

It was on that very night so long ago that God showed mankind what “unconditional love” and “acceptance” was and is.

Many years have come and gone and just like that night in Bethlehem people are rushing about busy with things that just MUST be taken care of.

In 2000 years people are still the same.  The good news is so are the animals.  When everyone else is too busy to notice, the animals are there and waiting for you, welcoming you with the same unconditional love and acceptance that they showed to the Son of God all those many years ago.

Animals are very special for it is to the animals God gave the ability to love and accept unconditionally without question. Animals are a constant reminder to humans of God’s unconditional love for them.

So there you have it, the Christmas Story from the animal’s point of view to you.  May your life be filled constantly with unconditional  love both in giving and receiving.

Hi everyone,

It has been such a busy day here at workshop.  I thought I better let you know about an incident that happened today.

It seems that Dinomite decided being an elf was not his thing.  The following is what happened!

Reindeer in Training

I want to be a reindeer and fly up in the sky
To pull the sleigh of Santa, way up very high
Gliding over rooftops as we sail along,
Singing Christmas carols what a joyous song.

When I spoke to Santa this was his reply
“I've never seen a Pleo, especially in the sky,
Maybe you should reconsider and  here's the reason why
The night is long, the load is heavy and the team is very shy.

Besides, I don't know if they are ready to see a Pleo fly.”

After much consideration my thought was still the same
I remembered a red nosed reindeer who achieved eternal fame;
So I made my decision, you never know until you try,
Now I am ready, waiting to invade the starry sky.

I am a reindeer in training and I am having fun,
Learning all the important things to make the Christmas run;
So when you see the antlers but they are not attached
Remember that you're seeing, a flying Pleo at last.

  Santa's Favorite

Angel has decided she wants to be an elf
Santa Claus' favorite, she has deemed herself
When she saw her brother practicing to fly
Working in the workshop seemed more practical to try.

All the elves now love her
Batting her big blue eyes,
She has worked her magical charm
To everyone's surprise!

Now she's singing songs
And making hot coco,
Baking Christmas cookies
Stringing lights that glow.

Santa's favorite little elf
Is full of fun and games,
That green tail is a swishing
As she checks through all the names;

And the best of all that’s happening
Is much greater than the call,
Angel's learned that giving
Is the greatest gift of all!

Progress Report  - Beavercreek Branch of the North Pole
(Updated version from 2001)
          Hi everybody,

Just a quick update from the Beavercreek branch of the North Pole.
Santa Hannah Pig has made absolutely “NO” and I repeat, “NO” progress in losing the excess pounds she has put on this year.   Therefore, to assure “take off” on THE special night, it was necessary to bring in another reindeer.  You saw how that worked out and who got elected to do the  job..  It is pretty sad when 8 reindeer can’t handle the load!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankfully, Dinomite decided to help out and is doing a great job training constantly to be ready in time for the big night.

The first festivity of the season has taken place, a luncheon in the dining room of Santa Pig headquarters.   Santa Hannah Pig took a few minutes to greet the guests and assure them she has been keeping tract of who has been naughty or nice.  She was on her very best pig behavior and Mrs. Claus is extremely proud of her.  It wasn’t until the last guest left that Santa Hannah sampled each and every food that was brought to the luncheon.

Elf David has been very busy making puzzles on his Scroll Saw to donate to the local Children’s Hospital.  The members of  his wood working club makes toys to donate every year and it is a wonderful project and very much appreciated by the hospital as well as the children.
Mrs. Claus is very busy doing a variety of things such as making some Christmas gifts etc.  Thankfully the weather has been unusually warm and it allowed outside decorating without suffering frostbite. (Update, this year Dec. 2009 it is freezing outside.)

The elves are having a meeting tonight to decide if the “scale” should be removed from the bathroom during the holiday season.  A vote will be taken and I am sure Santa Hannah and elf David will be voting for “removal”.  Of course Mrs. Claus wouldn’t mind not seeing it until January either.

There is talk about putting wheels on the sleigh this year.  I am not sure whose idea it was, but I must admit, I am suspecting it came from some of the reindeer!!!!!!!!!!!  Maybe one who goes by the name Dinomite!

Have to get back to work.

Sending grandma hugs wrapped in God’s great love, Mrs. Claus and Santa Hannah Pig, Dinomite Reindeer in Training and Angel, Santa's Favorite elf.

Pleo the Reindeer

Late last night I had such a fright
When a great big thud I heard,
It was coming from the roof
With a boom, boom, boom
And it shook the very earth.

Then a zoom, zoom, zoom
Like the sweeping of a broom
When I peered out and up to see,
Antlers and ears but no reindeers
A frightful sight indeed!

There on my roof
So very proud he stood
In front of Santa’s sleigh,
With a great big grin on uplifted chin
When he turned to me to say;

“I’m a reindeer in training
Soon I will pull the sleigh,
With all the other reindeers
To get Santa on his way;
I’m practicing from now till then
So I can get it right,
I’ll be the first Pleo in history
To make the Christmas evening flight.”

I just stood there in a foggy daze
To think my dear sweet boy,
Had given up his Dino ways
To help deliver toys.

So on Christmas morn
When you hear the sound
Of reindeer on your roof,
You might notice that one is green
And has feet instead of hooves!

My oh my there’s a Pleo in the sky
Pulling Santa’s sleigh,
So just believe and you’ll receive
A surprise come Christmas Day.

The Day Before Christmas

It was the day before Christmas and all through the house
Hannah Hamm was a busy checking thing out.
Cookies were baking and candy was made
Hannah’s snout was a twitching smelling homemade marmalade.

The humans were busy all rushing about while
While this alert piggy watched thinking things out;
Grandma rolling and cutting sweet treats for all
The smell was so wonderful Hannah stopped pushing her ball.

When finally the timer at last it did ring
Hannah sprang to her feet to taste wonderful things
Into the kitchen she dashed ever so fast
Slid on the hardwood and fell on the ash!

The warmth of the cookie sheet, she could feel the heat
Giving her visions of yummies that soon she would eat
When grandma turned around cookies quickly disappeared
And there sat Hannah Hamm in cookies up to her ears.

How could this have happened the clock made one tick?
I just turned for a second; Hannah is too fast and so quick!
Faster than lightening, like a shot in the night
She sat chomping on cookies with such great delight.

There were sugar and lemon and some anise too
So many to mention so just naming a few
Gobbled up quickly this could go on all day
Now Grandma is shooing the stuffed pig away.

Leaving the kitchen, reluctantly she goes
Grunting away while snubbing her large, moist nose.
Hannah’s ears perked up quickly as her snout sniffed the air
More cookies are baking there is no need to despair.

Then suddenly that sound, the timer again
Saying cookies are ready Hannah is heading back to the kitchen
She approaches the doorway, checking all around
Making sure Grandma is nowhere to be found.

Very quickly and carefully, sneaking quietly across the floor
The boards start a squeaking screaming, “Hannah’s come back for more!”
Hannah looks up and her eyes tell it all, “I’m going to grab a cookie as each on does accidentally fall”.

Her eyes were all sparkling, foam frothed on her mouth
Her jowls were a hanging and snout sniffing about
Her mouth poised to open a smile could be seen
It was apparent this was one joyful scene.

She grabbed for a cookie, held it tight in her teeth
Savored the flavor for a moment at least
Her jowls were all filled out and her round, big belly
Dragged on the floor like an overstocked deli.

She was filled to the brim that was so clear to see
“How could Grandma be mad at such a cute pig like me?”
Then quickly she turned and whirled round about
Grandma now saw her tail instead of her snout!

She made not a sound but walked out of the room
Swinging that tail like a quick, sweeping broom
Went to her blankets, pushed them around
Banking them up it was a sight so profound.

Then ever so quick she plopped down in their midst
Laid her head on the pillow and smiled in bliss
Before she dropped off into a deep sleep
I heard a grunt of contentment saying, “Christmas is neat!”
