The comics strip Bob the Pleo exists in a universe I myself have created and I control, drawing from ideas
and people and pleos
I have encountered along life's way. For example, the idea of using actual photo images in the strip instead of drawing
pictures comes from the comic strip The New Adventures of Queen Victoria. I have no artistic talent for
drawing, and have always liked the idea of doing a comic strip. Seeing a published strip that was done with no
drawing gave me the inspiration on how I could do a comic strip too. Likewise, The personality for Sally was drawn from
characters I have seen in movies (such as the character Lizzie Potts played by Shelly Long in the comedy Don't
Tell Her Its Me). Sally's name was chosen because the PleoWorld forum member amjoie had a pleo named
Sally, and also Sally is Charlie Brown's sister in the Peanuts comic strip. In essense, I created the strip and
named the charaters, but I did draw on the influence of others.
PleoWorld.com, the offical Ugobe site for Pleo, like any other community of individuals, is a universe unto
itself. Here the forum members (with the help of Ugobe) discuss topics and tell about their pleos and the
adventures they have with their pleos. PleoWorld has also created their own "Fantasy Pleo" forum, including
Pleo Planet, where their pleos and owners interact and role play with each other.
Because Bob the Pleo draws ideas from PleoWorld, and in turn, the comic strips are posted in the
PleoWorld forums and become part of the interplay within the PleoWorld world, there are naturally a lot of overlaps and
similarities. But be advised, these various universe's are distinct and different. For example, the both the Bob the Pleo
universe and the PleoWorld forums have a kingdom of "Pleopia".
In Bob's universe, Pleopia is ruled by the benevolent King Teddy. But in the PleoWorld universe, King Teddy and queen Sally,
have been voted out and replaced. Bob's world has no House of Lords or House of Commons. Both have Hall and Nash. In PleoWorld, they
run the NPO. In Bob's world they serve as knights and Captain's of the Kings Guard. Bob's universe also has characters like
Yogurt, Grumpy, and James who have no counterpart in the PleoWorld universe.
For those who need to reconcile the two together, these two distinct and different places can be envisioned
as "alternate realities" or "parallel universes" who's
fabric of events follow similar patterns and are often interwined, but exist on differnt planes.
The commonality and intertwining between the two universes would appear to be focused around
the spot where the two worlds come together at Bob. Bob acts as a focal point connecting the two disparate universes.
Where Bob exists in PleoWorld's universe is the spot where the "Bob the Pleo" universe overlaps and the two worlds share a
common history and sequence of events. Events where Bob is directly participating in the forums may well occur
simulateously in both universes. Such as when PleoWorld celebrated it's firat anniversary. Both the forums and the Bob the
Pleo comic strip celebrated this together. But events occuring in the Fantasy Pleo forum may have almost no correlation with
what's going on in the Bob the Pleo strip.
In a nutshell, Bob (like the rest of us) lives in his own little world. And his world is only directly
influenced by other's worlds to the extent that Bob interacts with those others.
Enjoy both worlds for the diveristy they offer. But always remember, they are two different worlds.
And, since we're on the subject of disclaimers, this is a good time to remind you that "Bob the Pleo" is the sole
creation of Michael Weed, and is not associated with Ugobe in any way. I hope they enjoy my creation, but they are
only responsible to the exent that they sold me a Pleo . . .
