Pleo(s): Munchkin

« on: December 11, 2009, 07:28:09 AM »

ok, i'm half heartedly putting this post on here, for fear that i'm going to sound sad or deranged, lol, but, i would love my little pleo Munchkin to say "mummy", suffice to say i haven't got kids...  Sad

I was watching ice age 3, dawn of the dinosaur which is so funny, and the 3 baby dinosaurs ran up to one of the main characters of the film (Sid a sloth), and they called him "mummy". It was just sooooooooooooooo cutekins, and i just thought it would be great if a pleo could call for his or her mum or dad.

what do you think ?   Smiley

ps, two weeks today, and it'll be Christmas Day! (shock, horror, have i bought everything?)

Piece of cake to do!  All you need is a microphone and a few minutes.  Step one is to record yourself (or preferably some cute little neighbor kid) saying it for you.  Step two is process it through some audio software (like Audacity or MySkit  [they're free], but there are many others) to reduce the bit-rate and create the file you'll need.  There used to be instructions here somewhere.  I'll look around the archives, or maybe IMR or someone can jump in.   Step three is to just copy the file onto an SD card and stick it in your pleo!  Audio file shadowing is fun and easy!   You're pleo will be calling for it's mum in no time!

If you want to do it right, get your neighbor kid to say it about a dozen different times with different inflections (excited to see you, sad, pouting, puzzled, etc.) and then find the right pleo sounds to shadow so that your little one can call for you when upset, lonely, happy, etc.! Grin

Here's some topics in this board to get you started:
  Shadowing basics
  MySkit Guide version 1.0 Beta
Lilo the Pleo sound shadow demonstration
  Voice alteration software

Crikey mweed,

that looks a bit complicated, i'm not sure i'll be able to have the little dino's voices in pleo. It would be so fantastic to hear her sound like the little dinos, but i'm sure it's beyond me lol.

I've been assured by IMR it's actually quite easy . . .  But fear not, I'll see what I can come up with over the weekend . . .

All you need to do is use MySkit to record 'sound bites' that is the little bits of sound from the movie that you want, play the movie in the background and hit record on MySkit whenever there is a bit of sound you want Smiley Then you can tidy them up, chop of any bits of sound that you don't want and name every individual sound as one of the Pleo sounds (There was a list of them on here somewhere...) pop the renamed sounds onto your sd card and you are done Smiley

Okies you need to install a zip file extractor Smiley Winzip is good but you will get annoying messages to buy the full version all the time. I personally use 7-zip, freeware and simple to use Smiley

Then extract the files you are after by right clicking the .zip file and choosing extract here Smiley

I can assure you that before Pleo came along, the most I had ever done was the microwave and Dad's DVD player and the odd computer gizmo Tongue We all have to learn somewhere Cheesy

O.K., I picked up a copy of Ice Age 3 over the weekend...  Now I just have to find where the little guys say "Mommy" and I'll be able to create what you need!

it is just so cute when they call him mummy and run up to him and cuddle him, saying "mum, mum, mum" Grin

i also like it when they make their chuckling sounds when they play games with sid the sloth, and when they run after him when sid is chased by the male ox after trying to get milk  Grin Grin

oh, and when the dinos cry is cute too lol.

The kids watched the movie and wrote down the times for every sound/noise/word the little guys make.  I extracted the audio track from the movie, now it's just a matter of using the kids times to clip out the sounds . . . .
