Poorly Ill Pleo
« on: February 20, 2017, 05:38:12 AM »

Hi there
I'm a newcomer to the forum and own a very poorly Pleo. I'm hoping it is not terminal, and would welcome any help and advice that might get my Pleo working once again.
I bought Fred a while ago now, second hand, and immediately fell in love with him. He is a 2006 Ugobe version, and up until a few months ago he worked fine no problems. Then he was not used for a period of just over 3 months, during which I was not well and not at home. As soon as I came home, I switched him on, he woke up, took about 4 steps, then curled up into his sleep position, and hasn't come out of that sleep since!!!! I have tried everything I can to get him working again, all to no avail. I have bought 2 new batteries, but again with no success. I'm at my wits end, it is like losing a member of my family, and I would dearly love for him to wake up.
Can anyone point me in the right direction, in order that I may revive Fred?
Does anyone know of anyone in the UK that I could send him to, to be looked at??
I would be eternally grateful for any help and advice, so I can get my Fred back.
Many thanks in anticipation
Trisha.

Going to sleep can be a sign of a low battery.  But since you've tried several batteries, you might try cleaning the battery contacts inside the pleo.  Also, try running a skit from an SD card.  If he runs the skit, it's not a battery issue.

A skit is a set of pre-programmed actions and sounds saved to a file that your pleo can re-play.  You copy the file to an SD card, put the SD card in the pleo when it is turned off, then, when you turn the pleo on, it reads the file on the card and follows those instructions.  Since these skits override the pleo's built-in programming, it is a good way to test to see if the problem is related to the hardware or the pleo's operating system.

You can find a whole list of skits with videos of them in this topic: InmemoryofRomeo's skits and other downloads!

Make sure the SD card is a small, older card.  Pleo's can't read the larger sizes.  If it says HC on the card, it's too big.

It could be a software issue, you could try an update, just make sure it's one for the correct Pleo, in your case original Ugobe Pleo, you could try the 2.0 update, just be aware they go through a moody teenage phase ;)
