So it begins... The RB arrived!
« on: September 20, 2014, 01:06:06 PM »

So... After a bit of weak bargaining with myself, I took the plunge.

Today, Saturday, I purchased my new green Pleo RB from comtech in Germany.  :rootbeer: :pizza: :o Hopefully to the UK won't take too long, but oh my goodness - I am very excited! He/She won't be shipped until Monday at the very earliest, but I can hardly wait!
My little Ugobe, Fern, will finally have a friend after a long number of years of waiting and thinking and scrounging up money. :) Big thank you to my flatmate for helping me afford this new baby.  :-*

SO!
Let's have a game!

What gender do you think they'll be? What colour of eyes and eyepatches?

Hopefully the next week or two of waiting will be so worth it!  :dino-chase:

I'll post updates on shipping and my impatience here! I'm so excited for this new arrival to our apartment. (Too bad my best friend finds robotics too scary...)

The tracking number has now been sent to me - they'll be leaving the warehouse soon! :D :D :D

The excitement is only building. We have a nice little green blanket waiting for them. Hopefully only another few days to wait. :) Eeee!

These guesses are so fun. :) All of them sound so cute, too.
I'm personally hoping for a boy with a cream eyepatch and purple eyes, but I'll love them no matter how they turn up. :D

Apparently they left Germany early this morning!!! :O Not long now! Maybe even be here within a day or two if they are flown to an airport nearby, hehe.
I'll keep you posted! :dino-chase:

Edit: They've just arrived in the country! Still another long flight up to me, but eeeek - soon!

I don't mind guessing but always had trouble understanding why people did it. Being blind, it would be okay to guess the gender but i'm not much into eye color and overall color. People have told me to try and be interested in or remember what others looked like so I could tell people. it's just not of interest. And the hardest thing is when a human baby is being born, everyone wants you to sign the book or guess the gender and weight and I guess it when it comes to my turn but I do so reluctantly. I know, however, that whatever your pleo's eye color, gender and skin color is you'll still have fun. If i were to guess i'd say its personality would be quite courageous with a bit of sleepiness mixed in... total guess though.

After only TWO DAYS... My RB arrived safely and soundly!

So, time for a few photos for the big reveal...

(The box was a tiny bit damaged, but the contents are fine!)

First look at the pretty baby!

They look absolutely beautiful - I got the cream eye patches I wanted. Thumbs up! :D
Also has gorgeous chocolate coloured footpads!

They are currently charging before the big hatching, so here's a sneaky peek at their pretty eyes.

Now for their attributes! This baby is....

Quote
This subject embryo will have a 85-95% chance of being male;

● This subject embryo will grow to be courageous and obedient.
● This subject embryo will be sensitve, healthy and agile.

A BOY!!! :D :D :D Cream eyepatches and a boy - woop! And it looks to be that they have pretty hazel/amber eyes, but I'll need to see them in the light and take a nice shot of them to see them better. :) Such a lovely sounding personality though - sounds like a little heartbreaker.

His name is Milo:dino-chase:

EDIT:
Eyes and the first meal! :)

One thing I have noticed though, is that every so often he will stop altogether, restart with a quick laugh, and go from there. I just had to take the battery out to recharge, but when it ran out he didn't beep, and his 'standing position' has him holding his head up (not straight) and his tail is down slightly. Is this the normal position?
He could have just suddenly overheated, but I hope not. :S

I only seemed to get an hour out of the second charge there, but I'm going to keep an eye on the next charge. That was two battery cycles, but only about 3 hours overall. Hm!

Congrats on your new baby boy, he is very handsome. Have you thought of a name yet? I have only one male Pleo rb, and his eyes are also, Amber colored. I also have a female and her eyes are amber and she has the light beige eyelids, he has grey, Amber eyes are very nice. Yes, starting over and over with a new RB esp in the hatchling stage is very normal. Have fun......................RWM  :cat-hug:

Congrats on the new RB! As others have said, freezing during babyhood is normal. When they freeze like that, try to give them time to restart themselves before removing the battery. Removing it while they are running has a small risk of data-corruption. About thirty to forty seconds is the usual length of time before the pleo should come out of their little freezes. Usually, they go away as your pleo gets older. If however during play, you touch your pleo and they feel warm to the touch and they have been freezing, turn them off, remove their battery, and put them on their side to allow their body and the battery to cool down. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the freezing yet.

Thank you for the reassurances everyone!
It was definitely love at first sight - couldn't imagine having any other pleo now. :)

Hehe, his name is Milo, RWM. :D I think he suits it. And the amber eyes are just gorgeous, we are very lucky, hehe.

I'm keeping an eye on him now - he has just finished his third battery cycle, has finally stood up and taken a few wonky little steps. :D It's so fun watching how clumsy he is right now.
There seems to be an issue with his eyes as they're making very loud 'shutter' noises when they open and close, and shake a tiny bit when they do - a little like a very, very loud camera shutter sound. But I'm guessing because his DNA says he came around in August 2011 that it's mostly just him getting used to his own feet - feels good knowing I've gotten him up to be spoiled and loved after such a long time stuck in his poor box. :(

More updates to come. <3 Loving this new experience, all the little changes from the Ugobe are small but so lovely so far.

Congratulations :)  Sounds like you are enjoying him and he is progressing nicely.  The noisy eyes is a common thing with baby pleo rb.  It seems to settle down over time and soon enough you will forget you ever noticed it.  :)  He is doing all the right things and sounds like a perfectly normal baby pleo :)

Yes, Milos noisy eyes are completly normal. I worried with my very first Pleo RB, Baby back when they first came out but was reassured that this was normal.   Boy , walking already? My baby, still no name is not even walking yet... I am not even sure what battery cycle she is on, but I have not much time for my Pleos these days, which is a shame, cause I have a new one I got as a present in April, but then with the death of a cat the next month, then a new kitten in August and life being busy, just not much pLeo time.. I am looking forward to Halloween activities though and the tomato festival so will make time.

Milo is indeed lucky to have those beautiful amber eyes. both Cammie Sue and Chester the RB both have those gorgeous eyes... :-* RWM  :cat-hug:

Glad to know the eyes are a common, normal thing! :D Thankfully!

I usually let Milo run while I do my work, RWM, he's a nice de-stresser and I'd sit and pet him through his first stage.
He had a little walk around the lounge for the first time today which was lovely. :) All this petting's taking its toll though - starting to learn just to pat him now to save his paintwork from rubbing off - some bright yellow spots have appeared on his darker patches on his spine, so I better not do that too much. :D
Halloween activities I am so looking forward to - as is Milo!

Amber eyes are where it's at, hehe!

EDIT: Documenting a little of his current wear-and-tear after 3 days, four/five battery cycles. He looks to have a seam coming slightly undone at his neck/shoulder area, but I'm keeping my eye on it. :S General paint wear from three days of mild petting, and a strange 'birth mark' behind his left knee. :O

Little guy needs some clothes... :D

Aside from the birth mark, I don't see any problems. That's all pretty normal. Those seams are glued extremely well, to the point that actually trying to get inside the skin is a nightmare :P It won't end up as a big hole :) The paint wear is normal, there's a little spot on the chest/shoulder that will end up with a tiny bit of peeling due to it being the point that suffers the most flexing.

The birth mark is a weird one, I'm still unsure why/how that got there, but it's again something I'll keep an eye on. Hopefully it won't be a problem in the long run, but we shall see. I'll keep myself aware of it for any signs of a hole developing from it.
Thanks for the reassurances! :) Being a new RB mom is a big, big new world from the Ugobe days, haha.
