Title: PDK (pleo development kit) alpha version trial run
Post by: pleoplus80 on August 21, 2009, 09:04:13 PM
I got the PDK alpha version yesterday from the PDK co-ordinator at Pleoworld .com

There is a lot to read and seems it will take me some time to get to it.

I am going to spend my weekend with it and see if I could make my pleoplus doing something special.

It would be FUN !

Sorry friends!
Many pages to read and it is my first time to learn about this kind of programming.
Not much done through the weekends.
Hope to make some simple talking and motion PDK for Pleoplus in next 2 days.
Will keep you inform the progress.

Hi Friends:
Please excuse me for the poor 1 st animation done with PDK.

It is excited to see Pleoplus walks and speaks the famous Armstrong "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind !"

It is great if the PDK would give a gaint leap for Pleo !

Here is the link and hope it works for you.

I am already impressed by the speed of motion, it is much faster than can be achieved with MySkit. Can't wait to see what is done when the PDK becomes available to everyone :)

WOW! The pdk is Amazing! respect has got be given to Ugobe and of course Jetta this really shows how open to third party development Ugobe were. Wow the possibillities are endless lmao i'm all wide eyed hah and i'm not even finished reading all the docs. I cannot wait to see what the seriously tech savvy community can come up with. Wow thank you so much Mweed for getting us this early hehe. right gunna go back to play :D

Right here are my thoughts on the PDK after around 8-9 hours hands on.

Just from the documentation you can tell Ugobe really thought of this as a big part of Pleo, the software in him/her really does seem to be built for easy hacking and customisation. If you haven't ever experienced the madness that is programming it might be wise to wait for other parties to produce more hands on customisation tools like myskit but if like me you just like to dive in, there is plenty of info provided to learn from. Basic examples and even a couple of walk throughs are provided as part of the kit but i have noticed that the Pleo api filed under docs is slightly out of synch; some columns containing names do not match up to their explanation. Also under examples and drive_example the P files for hunger and social are quite hard to understand, in windows notepad the code appears in one large block making it hard to distinguish one line of code from another whether this is intentional (some crazy coding reason), a fowl up somwhere along the line or simply my notepad i haven't a clue but thought it was worth noting. Those petty complaints however do very little to detract from the feeling that the PDK really opens alot of doors, even if it gives nothing new to code geniuses it gives alot to the amateur. Oh and the fact that if you think of dinomite, pleopatra and myskit as part of the same toolset it's even greater.

hey guys

i tried the pdk and i have to say its great but what i missed was a program to test your scripts on the pc if its work how it should work.

and i have a question because there is an firmware folder with all updates and one update is called pleo 1.1.1 so is this update the last update from ugobe or it is a newer one?

1.1.1 is the very latest update but it says in the txt that it just fix a couple of bugs it may have just been an internal update for ugobe only. I agree with you on the testing part it would have been nice to have a software alternative to a physical pleo but i think  it may just have been to much hastle considering how long it's take for the PDK to be released. You can i believe it mentioned somewhere in the documentation load/unload different scripts while pleo is hooked up to a monitor like dinomite and has an sd card inserted. You'd have to check the docs though because im not certain. I like to have some form of gui just because it feels right :p so i'm hoping someone will produce a tool along the lines of myskit to fiddle with all the pleo mind stuff.

I'm sure someone will come up with a tool like that :) Although it may take a while depending on how much interest there is in Pleo after Ugobe's troubles...

Post by: justbede on September 04, 2009, 11:12:52 AM
Yeah i agree, it shouldn't be to hard for the people that have the experience but the problem is pleo lost alot of fans towards the end :( alot of people see them as toys which is a little unfair what else is an entertainment robot if not a toy. I'd love it if one of our members had the proper experience to build a tool around our input.

Had a breif chat with Derek today, He needs any final bugs/problems/fixes you can come up with on the PDK in to me this weekend, so that he can get them corrected.  He's looking at giving us back the corrected/updated PDK next Friday for a final look-over before the public release.

I've gotten a few corrections and fixes submitted so far, so try to play with it as much as you can in the next day or two . . .

Obviously the notes about for ugobe internal use only, the api de-synchronisation, the scrambled examples files, I'll have a good nose around and see what i can find :)

does someone know how i can programm aditional things to the original pleo personality?
Title: Re: PDK (pleo development kit) alpha version trial run
Post by: justbede on September 07, 2009, 07:35:20 PM
I know everyone says it but be careful when making changes to the original personality, your best bet is waiting a couple of weeks until more people have had plenty of time to get used to the PDK and thus be able to give you better info.
Title: Re: PDK (pleo development kit) alpha version trial run
Post by: mischamd on September 08, 2009, 01:57:22 AM
i know the pdk and have written some programms to test and i dont want to chang the original file on the flash drive of pleo. i would have the original pleo personality as a project like the examples for programm anditional thing to it and the make the personality and put it on my sd-card to run it. the original personality on the flash drive on pleo i dont wanna touch.

the only problem for me is that pleo only do the things you program when you put the programm on cd so when you would have a complete personality with all the things pleo normaly do and aditional things from you, you have to program all these things on your own.

Post by: justbede on September 08, 2009, 04:05:23 AM
Cool it sounds like you know what your doing :), yeah i think thats the best way of experimenting only problem is i think  it would be easier to do this kind of thing if we had the source files for Pleo's personality. With Dino-mite you can print off the resources used by Pleo and i believe it includes commands and alot of stuff that is important to his personality the problem is you can't copy them without backing up the whole flash drive and at the moment i'm not sure i have the guts to risk it. Keep experimenting dude, sounds intresting!

sure ;) but i cant find a dinomite download. i just played around whit the examples and add aditional funktions like shot photos from objects which pleo can see ;)

my goal is to program a little image recocnition so that pleo can see a ball and play with it.

I too really want to add more functions to Pleo and yeah playing with a ball is definitely on the cards for me, but also just improved random object interaction and recognition. I for one would love to hear what you've managed to get Pleo doing and even more so, how you did it. By the way if German's your first language your english is great.

The beta version of the PDK is now available for those who tested the alpha version.  Just use the same link as last time!

And Derek said if we can point out any more issues, bugs, typos, etc. in the next couple of days, he would love to correct them before he goes public with the release!  (and the rush is all my fault.  He sent me the update on Tuesday, and I didn't realize it was an attachment to the email until today!  :o  ^-^

The new PDK has references to an Innvo labs forum with a tech section! They must be eventually planning on bringing it back online.

I'm a little worried by the fact that it looks like they've simply replaced the word Ugobe with Innvo labs it is even said that Innvo Labs will release a full PDK in 2008, heh there's covering your back and then there's using word replacement s/w to cover your back :p. Got to agree though they must be planning bringing back the forum, although there was that "new direction" Derek talked about.

Hi Friends, I just checked the www.pleoworld.com and it is updated and with PDK download released.

I do believe the PDK was updated by Innvo Labs based on the job done by Ugobe, it couldn't be done in several months after they took over Ugobe since June. Just wonder why Ugobe didn't release it sooner in 2008?

We don't have to bother if umfs stands for Ugobe motion files or not, it is important that Innvo Labs is willing to free release the PDK to us, the Ugobe Pleo  owner. and keep the great Pleo alive and continue its evolution.

There's more to it than just that though, whoot! things are happening:

Technical support is now available. You can call Monday – Friday 9:00 am -12:00, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Just navigate to Customer Support for additional information.

The first version of the PDK (Pleo Development Kit) is now available for download without registration. This version will only be available for a short time. The Innvo Labs upgraded version will replace it after a little more testing.

Please explore our new site and test the navigation features, you will like what you see.

Come visit us again, as new features like the Pleo Store are in final testing.

Yeah, Derek basically did a search-and-replace on Ugobe to Innvo Labs! ;)  The forums he discussed bringing back is not the forums we remember, it will be a "developer's forum" to discuss PDK issues only.  They are still making updates to the PDK based on our previous comments submitted a couple of weeks ago.  This version he has put out on their web site (and I made available here last week) is just a stop-gap to get something out there as he promised.  He refer's to it as the "Ugobe PDK".  The "Innvo Labs PDK" will be out later . . .   with most of our comments incorporated.  But it may be another month or so. . .   They are struggling to get the site up and running before this weekend when they plan to start selling the new-and-improved pleo.

A developers forum is just fine with me ;) Just as long as I have here as well :)

A stop gap solution is also fine, anything that will spike up some interest can only be good :)

Oh wow I was not expecting them to have the sales up so soon :o I expected late October... That will be wonderful!

The only reason it bothers me is because the difference in name and extension could get confusing. I think as soon as Ugobe started seeing problems financially they had bigger things on their plate than releasing the PDK so decided to concentrate on that. Great to see Innvo getting things done, thumbs up to them.
