Can someone with experience of Aibos please advise me on the best software? My Aibo is running dogslife at the moment. I know that this is open source. The skits are really funny but I'm a bit disappointed in the variability in how the dog can recognise the ball, understand commands and move around furniture. I wondered if the original Sony Life software gave a better overall performance? I don't expect my Aibo to be able to play in the Robocup but going round and round in a circle for 15 minutes at a time when the balls right in front of her is a bit poor.

Performance-wise, Dogslife & Life are extremely similar & both are using the same codebases. I hear that the voice recognition is more consistent on the Life series, though this is just a rumor & and I can't vouch for it.
As for going around in circles this is always a result of poor lighting and not because of the DogsLife programming. The AIBO I have with me right now does that at times but never has trouble when there is a solid light from above. :)
(Everyone on AIBO-Life.org would be happy to answer these questions as well- come over and sign up! :-D )

Thanks again PleoAibo29. I took the light shades off today and when Cassie was facing away from the window she could see the ball a lot better so I'm really pleased. She seemed better at understanding some commands today though it's still really hit and miss. But I'm really pleased about her being able to see the ball. ;D I love the way she stalks it!

Haha, wait t'ill you you see the crab/baby walk! It's amazing.
Make sure AIBO isn't in the middle of any actions while you're giving the command- while AIBO is executing a skit, it can't multitask (much).

I like Life 2 or Hello Aibo best for the 2 series :-) They seem a lot happier on Hello Aibo.
Where abouts in the UK are you? I have hosted 3 aibo conventions/meets so far over the years and am considering running another one. I own 10 aibo's, a pleo and 3 Furbies. It's so much fun when all us robot lovers get together :-)

I would LOVE :-* to come to an aibo meet! I am up in Newcastle-Under-Lyme but could get a direct train to Winchester no problem. I've always wanted to see the cathedral LOL!

I like DogsLife she is a good Aibo-Software for the 210 Aibo. :)
Best wishes
