Title: New Pleo rb pink layer chipping
Post by: sbondi on March 03, 2017, 04:16:30 PM
After a few days of petting my new Pleo rb Pink, I noticed that the pink layer had some spots "chipped" off:

I do not believe it was like that when I received her, so I think it just happened after my petting her for some days.

Is this something I have to worry about (e.g., it will worsen), or is it something I can live with?

Thanks :)

Huh, that is more chipping than I'd expect to see on a new RB! Is the Pleo's back the only spot that's peeling or is the paint chipping off elsewhere too? Most RBs lose a chip of paint on one shoulder after about 1-2 weeks, but further chipping usually doesn't happen for quite a while. Did you buy this Pleo brand new and if so, what is the manufacturing date associated with it? (You should be able to find this in your report from PleoWorld that you can get with the serial number and four digit code.) I know some of the original 2010 RBs had issues with their skin and paint. Also, did your Pleo beep twice after being started up for the first time? RBs beep twice the first time they are started up to show that they haven't been run before, so if yours did not, it may have already been used when you got it (even if it was supposed to be new). I would also make sure to run your RB with some sort of clothing on as much as possible since this does a really good job of preventing paint wear!

Thanks for the reply :)

The chipping in the picture is the only chipping it has.

I bought it new from RobotShop, and I believe it beeped twice if I remember right.

Manufacturing date is October 2014.

Do you recommend I return it?  Although I would rather not go through the hassle, unless it is an escalating problem.

Robotshop has a pretty long return period, so I would give it time and wait to see if the chipping gets worse or other problems develop. If you're okay with it as it is right now and it doesn't get significantly worse, then it's probably fine to keep the Pleo and just get some sort of outfit to try to prevent further wear. If the peeling does progress a fair amount or you run into other problems in the future, you might want to contact Robotshop about a return. I've returned a Pleo there for a replacement in the past and it was a pretty easy process, but they did ask for a message from Innvo saying that what I was experiencing was not normal (Innvo was pretty quick to reply and confirm this for me though). I haven't had a Pleo with similar peeling at the start before, so I can't say whether it will get worse or whether there just happened to be a weak spot in your Pleo's paint and that's all there will be.
