Title: Custom Painting
Post by: JakeLBell on April 06, 2015, 09:25:29 AM
I know custom painting is very popular among Pleo owners, especially on old Ugobes where the paint has worn off, but I was wondering if anyone has gone the route of trying to paint a Pleo hyper-realisticly? I've been considering painting the nails on my RB a dark brown color like in many of the Pleo promo photos since, in my opinion, it looks better and is a bit more believable. I think it would be very interesting to see someone try to make a Pleo looks as realistic as possible.

I did one of mine as a python, if that counts?

I must admit I tend to prefer the naturalistic - I'm not very good at 'fantasy'.  Lack of imagination, probably!  :D

If you want to see a brown Pleo, this was him before I put the yellow on:

Please forgive the slippers, he was being a 'chocolate Easter Pleo' at the time! :D  :moose:

What kind of paint did you use for him?

It was a mixture of acrylic ink and latex mask paint in the end, acrylic ink only at first go.

If you have a spare week, there's a looooong thread about painting Pleos! :D

Thank you so much for the link to the other thread! This is exactly what I was looking for.  :)

After reading through that thread I realized you have a real talent for painting Pleos!! The boa pleo you painted looked great too  ;D

This is a little more than just a custom paint job, but it's amazing! I wonder if anyone here would ever be brave enough to try something similar one day?

This was posted a little while back and is a very cool project.  I am hoping that one day we might see these being mass produced and sold out in the real world.  I messaged them to ask if they would ever be making and selling these guys but got no response.  It is a lovely thing they did for that little boy.  :)

I remember that - I still really, really want one!

Thanks to all your help Crewella I found what I needed and decided to try painting my RBs nails dark brown. In all the old promo photos for Pleo the nails were brown so I'm not sure why they aren't painted at all when you actually get one, but I really like how it turned out. It was more difficult than I expected though, especially with the inside nails on the back feet.

All Pleo RB's are unique so some have painted nails and others don't.  I have three and each one has a different shade of nail paint ranging from dark to almost not there at all.
Looks like you did a good job :)

Thanks Kat and Crewella!

She had no shading on her nails at all before. There is some shading around her feet, but there was a clear line where it stopped on her nails. It just looked kind of unfinished before.
