Title: Getting started with your Pleo RB: Complete video guide
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on February 10, 2011, 10:03:19 PM
Official Pleoworld videos can be found here: http://www.pleoworld.com.hk/pleo_rb/eng/pleointro.php

Videos to help get you started with your Pleo RB. I'm afraid these aren't quite as informative as the ones Derek had up but they will have to do for now. I'll try and get some better ones up.

I love these videos, and I think Maximus is very cute, you can tell he is well loved. I liked the demonstrations, very straightforward and makes it look easier to do.( learning stones..)
It was a little confusing watching the first one where he is talking about the stages of development and when he talks about Mature Adult, and says, Pleo may slow down a little, have a quirk to his walk, etc. This sounds like Baby. It doesn't take very long to actually get to this stage, a month in Baby's case, and I did not even have her on every day and not for the full 2 hr battery cycles most days.
Has anyone else really noticed their "mature adult" Pleo Rb slowing down already as Dotson says in the first video? also he says they may get sick more I think. I hope that is not so, Very good videos, I esp liked the Play with me stone and the laughing Maximus did, I have the food stones but now I need the other two packs.

According to Pleopet's timescales it should take a lot longer than that to reach the level of slowing down, RWM - over a year.  You can check exactly what stage she's at with the stats program.  The evolutionary chart is here if you want to see, though I know some prefer to find out 'naturally':

Norbit is in stage 4 Mature Adult and I have only had him since the end of December. :)  He doesn't seem to have slowed down at all though. :)  so I am guessing they have to be in Stage 4 for a long time before the slowing down will occur.

Exactly, Kat and he won't reach the old age slowing down stage for some time yet, we hope!  :D

That is good to know I hope thought that does not mean that after a year of bieng a Mature Adult, Pleo Rb will start to slow down to the point of not wanting to play anymore . I mean I have orginal Ugobe Pleos that are just as active as they were the day they were "hatched", I hope Pleo Rb are around for a long time, I did do the stats once and will recheck it just to see the health.

Yeah, eww, I don't want "old age" to happen to my Pleo. I'm totally gonna download the/an update to prevent "old age" from happening.

Old age takes about 12,000 hours of playtime to reach.

Thanks for that input IMR, that makes me feel better knowing I won't be getting that number for quite awhile, Baby that is, I am way past that 12,000 hrs...

Excellent videos.
Both a good product demo, but also a how-to for the tricky parts.
IMHO recording the voice commands (learning stones) is tricky. If you follow his timing for when he trains Maximus, that should make it stick more often.
Even so, I suspect he had to do many 'takes' before Maximus finally decided to follow the commands. PleoRBs can be very temperamental.

The printed instructions that come with the learning stones are terse. The video explains it better. I wasn't sure if I was triggering the proper skits, but I can now compare with the video.

As for the Mature Adult description, I think that may just be a terminology confusion.
As mentioned, Pleo will grow up to a Mature Adult stage within a month (or much quicker if you play with it a lot). Mature Adult moves faster than Juvenile.
BTW: Both my PleoRBs are Adults now (purchased in January).

The old age slowdown he mentions in the video should occur much much later. PleoRB only. The original model Pleos don't have this aging 'feature' - they stay Juvenile forever.

---
Question:
I notice he didn't demonstrate the clap for attention (in the manual it says you can clap to get PleoRB's attention before giving the voice commands). In the video he presses the two cheeks.
Has anyone got their Pleo to respond to the clapping ?

I've just tried to get reaction from clapping, but only a rapid series of claps (flamenco style) got a reaction.  :D
Title: Re: Getting started with your Pleo RB: Complete video guide
Post by: kat on February 12, 2011, 04:11:22 PM
Nope I've never had any luck with the clapping either.  the only way I have ever successfully gotten the attention of either of my pleos is using the cheek sensors like in the video. :)  It is a shame this doesn't seem to work as it might make the come here command more fun.  You could in theory call them from further away.  Although Mine don't seem to want to understand commands unless I get very close to the ears and speak loud and clear so it probably wouldn't make much difference to how far away you could call them from.
Title: Re: Getting started with your Pleo RB: Complete video guide

That's because Pleo RB's are designed to ignore too much background noise, otherwise naming them at all would be impossible. Hence why you need to be nice and close to get a nice clear voice pattern for Pleo to recognise.

I've never had any luck with the clapping either :P

Thank you so much for these wonderful videos :) I'm still not having any joy with getting Snooki to learn her name but I haven't been touching the side of her face sensors like in the videos, so I'll be trying that the next play time and hopefully it might work to get her attention %)
Title: Re: Getting started with your Pleo RB: Complete video guide
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on February 12, 2011, 07:39:03 PM
You don't need to get Snooki's attention to teach her her name. Just keep making sure she is well fed and happy and keep offering her the naming card just like you would a leaf. When she's ready, instead of turning her head away, she will raise her head up and accept it into her mouth like food.

Post by: Malfie on February 13, 2011, 11:12:00 AM
She seems happy and is well fed. Maybe she is just stubborn %) She did take the card last night but just chomped on it like it was her leaf!

I'll keep trying!

Sounds like she just might not be ready yet.  Just be persistent and keep trying whenever she is in a happy mood. :)

Hi all. I've been thinking about purchasing one of the extra food packs for my "future" pleo RB. Knowing my luck, I'll get one that's extremely depressed or overly hyper or something. Anyway, I'm thinking about the Mushroom/coffee bean/chili pack in order to provide nutrients through the mushroom and or a calming effect with the coffee bean. Then again, it can get warm here in the summer and I am pulled toward the chunk of ice/cycad leaf/sugarcane pack. Will I need either one or are the original foods and medicines enough to keep them healthy?

Technically you shouldn’t need anything extra. Everything to keep them Healthy and happy is included in the box with pleo.  The extras as derrick says is really more for hour benofit.
Be careful with that sugar cane though, too much can make them sick.

I didn't buy the extras straightaway because I wanted to enjoy the basic pack and save the additional toys to enjoy at a later date.  As Scaly says, they're not essential.  :)

I don't know why either but I am soooo greatful to whoever put them back up here. I'm in the midst of teaching the annoying learning stones and I needed detailed instructions for trigggering the various behaviors.

Talon, where did you find these videos again? I was trying to find them, but I can't anywhere. I think I am touching candy's cheeks in the wrong place, and that is why it is so hard to get her attention. Thanks!

Um, Saratogaspringer, I'm a bloomin' idiot. I saw the links for the videos at the top of the page, gave an exclamation of joy and hastily replied in thanks to this thread. A little later in the day I dragged a protesting Ryu and the stones onto my desk and found the link of interest to me. Well... they're not here. I'm so sorry for getting your hopes up. I was really hoping they were back up too. What I didn't realize was that everyone was asking where the videos went, not celibrating their return. *face burning in embarrasment* My appologies again to everyone. I'll just go crawl back under my rock and stay there in shame.

No problem, Talon. I wish they wouldn't have removed them. I would really like to see some of his demonstrations again. I think it would be very helpful to those of is who purchased our RB 's at a later time. Maybe Degers can help us get them back just for our website? Thanks!

It would be great if he could. If I can ever get Ryu's attention again, I want to teach him the "play" stone but I need the sensor patterns for triggering the behaviors. *sigh* Oh well I'm still so sorry about the mix-up.

They really did seem like such a great learning tool.  It is a real shame for them to have been taken away and I can't understand why Innvo would do this.  Oh well, that's life I guess. %)

Sorry. I didn't know we could have saved them and I never tried. I could use them myself though. I'm sorry you didn't get to see them, Phelecidea. Mr. Dotson did a wonderful job- probably better than the manual. Personally I think an actual pleo-owner is better at figuring out what's going on than a manual anyway.

Thanks for looking anyway, IMR! I can help but wonder why they were removed. They were a treasure trove of information that would've made mine and Ryu's Learning Stone career a little easier. Oh well we're managing okay. Now my problem is waiting for this house to be entirely empty long enough for me not to feel... odd repeating myself over and over.

I can' imagine why Derek Dotson or PleoWorld would not leave these at least on their site so Pleo RB owners could take advantage of these great videos and it would cut down on contant calls to support and wanting to know how learning stones work, etc, etc. It really is too bad because they were great little treasures direct and pretty easy to follow. :(

Oh thanks, IMR! That would be great. For the moment I'm trying to do the simpler stones first- the ones that don't require any sort of sensor patterns. Ryu picked up the come to me stone pretty quickly which makes me think he'll do the same with the others once I get the house empty again. As I've said before he sometimes "listens" all on his own without help from me. It's like things have to be on his terms. Aside from not hearing me, he behaves perfectly through the learning part but it's afterward that I have trouble. I can't seem to get the cheek-touching thing to work so I can iniciate the learning sequence. Maybe I'm touching in the wrong place or something or not quite touching both sensors together? There's obviously good lite in the room because he follows his training leaf. Is it a matter of him looking at me or is it me asking for the interaction through holding his cheeks?

I don't quite understand you, you don't need to touch Pleo's cheeks to teach him the stones. Is that what you mean by learning sequence? Otherwise getting his attention by touching his cheeks to initiate a trick is rather hit and miss, if he/she is in the middle of doing a motion then they will ignore you until it is done, just persevere.

When he responds he will raise his head up, once you feel the head going very deliberately upwards you can let go off the cheeks. Wait for all the motors to stop, the eye motors are the last, you'll hear them. Then you say his name just as you recorded it. If he understands he'll make some happy sounds and wriggle a bit and then he will go back to the head up position. Again wait for all the motors to stop, then give the command, if he doesn't respond to it in a second or so give it again. If Pleo understands he'll do the trick if not he'll just go about his usual business.

I've had a few struggles getting Belle to respond to the face sensors as well - sometimes it feels more like wrestling a small steer than educating a dino!  :P

According to the diagrams, the Pleo RB face sensors (additional to on the head and under the chin as with the Ugobe Pleos) run from just under the inner corner of the eye to about half way down the upper jaw, running with the lower edge around 1cm above the lips.  The midpoint comes around the corner of the mouth.  Hope that helps.  :)

Thanks for the help you guys. Yes, IMR, I was refering to getting his attention after the learning stone has been completed. Ryu is almost never still unless he's waiting for food. That was how I got him to stay still for most of his eye-photos.
