Title: SUCCESS with "Open PDK" - no more licensing troubles guys
Post by: GarethNelson on August 11, 2010, 04:33:57 PM
I can build an identical binary to one produced by the pawncc included in the PDK with the standard open-source pawncc.
Now working on some of the other tools - say bye to the dodgy PDK license :)

Progress:
UPF parser - mostly working
pawncc - completely working
include files - completely working
wav2usf - mostly working, very slight difference in the header, should still work in the pleo hopefully

Sounds great to me :D Will you be sharing it?

(Please forgive the lack of enthusiasm from the majority of users here, pawncc to most of us is a completely foreign language :P)

When it's ready, sure
Unless anyone wants to help work together on it - in which case, choose your component ;)

I'm afraid I wouldn't have a clue :P

Yes, please forgive the majority of us. As we truly are lost when it comes to this sort of thing. I am always eager to hear of people exploring the tech side to pleo. I probably will never be of any assistance, but I am so eager to hear of all the news! Thanks!

I might be able to help when it comes to actually writing code in pawn, but not much for configuring the PDK and components.

One real drawback I see for the majority of members here is having a linux box to run it on.   There are probably only a handful who even know what that is, and I'm sure I could count the members on one hand who might actually have one or know how to set one up.

There's no reason why this won't work under windows (or under cygwin at the very least).

Of course right now the main issue I have is trying to figure out the URF format - if anyone knows where I can get more in-depth technical specs of the various file formats that will help a lot. Right now i'm reverse-engineering it all.

Sounds like you are getting into some real cool stuff. Programming for Pleos is one of the items on my list of things to try out but I haven't done anything with respect to it yet. I'd offer to jump in too but given I'm already behind on a number of other projects of interest not sure I'd be much help especially with the learning curve I need. I'm familiar with programming but not pawn or the PDK.

Yay! 2 different people just sent me code for dealing with URF files, so now I can finish the job.
Should be publishing this thing soon :)

The author of YAPT and MySkit has kindly sent me some code, as has the author of PleopatraTools so I now have a small library for reading and writing URF files which works nicely. I'm just awaiting consent to use the code under the GPL.

Yay - I finally found the thread!  As I've said, I'm of no use to you whatsoever, Gareth, but I will follow this with interest. :)
