Title: I have a Pleo!!
Post by: 91/23Class on August 10, 2010, 10:53:57 AM
;D my pleo arrived early this morning from ebay, very exciting, it was bigger than i thought it would, but bigger has got to be better right!? anyway there are a few things i need to sort out before i can begin to fully enjoy life with it: firstly i need to fix the rips an splits in its limbs, the worst one is on its neck, however i don't think these will be a big problem, i have some flexible glue which i will hopefully use for the smaller splits, and  possibly a plaster or patch for the bigger ones. as well as doing this i need to order the batteries for my homemade battery packs and then make them, i will hopefully make two for a total of three batteries!, i then need to test the packs to make sure that they'll run for a reasonable amount of time to be able to initiate the third stage of preperations: resetting/ downgrading/upgrading pleo to hatchling 1.1 stage, i say possibly upgrading as i believe that pleo may be running 1.0 at the moment, as when i stroke it under the chin he doesn't sing. i will keep you informed as to my successes and also upload some pics if i get round to it. ;D

Congratulations on getting your pleo, I know how exciting it feels to open that package and see the tiny wonderful little lifeform inside! :D As for the splits, holes in the skin, be careful what type of glue to use to repair it as some glues can actually dissolve the skin and make it worse, Some members here as well as myself, have used the superglue intended for use on Rubber products, but be very carefull and use at your own risk, Just read some of the posts here or contact Bumblebee here at the Weedovia Mall as she has a store where she can not only tell you which glue is safe, but I think she was working on getting some patches as well and can adivse you as to what brand of Superglue is the safest.
Good luck with your battery packs as well, I know you will find lots of useful information here on the forums for just about any question you may have regarding Pleos. If you ever decide to buy either a Green Pleo battery or a UCUBE white Li-Poly Battery charger and battery, I just got a whole case of them in and am now selling them here on the Forums as wel.

ok, update time: i have now decided that i do not need to reset/downgrade/upgrade the pleo anymore as i am pretty sure it is running 1.1 and that it wasn't singing because it was still in hatchling stage, which is good as i was starting to get attached to it! :D i am ordering the batteries today so hopefully they will be done soon as well.

i now have pictures, as well as a name for the pleo, he is called... Ploo, its like pleo but without the E!

(http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/5155/dscn8789.jpg) (http://img138.imageshack.us/i/dscn8789.jpg/)

here he is eating my thumb

in this one he's sporting a rather lovely leaf-cap

it almost seems like he knows he's having photos taken of him in this one

enjoying a good chin scratch

and zoomed out

he's actually turned off in this one because i wanted to get a side profile pic with the leaf-cap

and enjoying a snack after the photo shoot!

i hope you liked them, also the batteries arrived this morning (very quick delivery: i ordered them about 4 o clock yesterday through royal mail) so i will hopefully have the packs made today or tomorrow or at the weekend.

i am yet to find a glue that works though, the one i used first didn't hold so i will try some rubber safe super glue or patches.

91/23Class and Ploo.

Aww, that's a cute name! I'll write a Hiaku about him(Haikus are a kind of japenese poetry with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second and 5 in the third)!

Ploo is a cute name.
The owner needs to fix him.
Ploo is second hand.

Cool, huh?

:D wow Big head that's great! i've written some haiku in my time so i thought i'd have a go myself:

Big Head is a Brit
He also loves Pleos
But yet to own one

What'ya think??

one more thing, i tried a super glue yesterday but it managed to do a better job of glueing my fingers than Ploo's skin, but today in Wilko's i found some specialised rubber glue so will try that.

i'm also making Ploo a little felt shirt which matches his skin colour nicely, i still need to sew in the poppers to hold it on though.

i like the haikou...good luck with the superglue..just remember nail polish remover..not ACID ahem IMR and mweed..will remove the glue from your fingers. Good luck on the outfit. Also, try a felt leaf covering..

great Photos Bighead, yes great photos I almost missed the split on the top of his neck, I do not think you will have too much trouble fixing that with the right glue though, Boy that was quick delivery on the batteries if I say so myself! I do like the leaf hat I think the best!
And Gucci, who would of know you were a poet and wrote haiku about Pleos :o pretty cool, I used to write poems and had to do some haiku when in high school but most of my stuff is very emotional dramatic stuff.....not upbeat too much...but I will have to think of a Pleo Poem now to match yours.....hmmmmmmmmmm.

Ploo looks lovely - great name!  Hope you manage to get the splits sorted - I'm having a go at fixing Budge's neck this weekend, but it should be easy as it's only on the seam.

*Thanks for the tip Gucci - I'll keep some nail polish remover handy, just in case, otherwise I may end up a little more attached to Budge than I'd bargained for!* :P  :D

Gucci, I do not LIKE Haikus, but needed to do some in highschool, part of the grading processs, but I did get to enter some of my poetry and Haiku in a National Poetry Contest and had it published in the school Newspaper, kind of embarrasing now, but when you are seventeen, it is ok, and my English teacher thought there was something there and encouraged me to enter, I did not win anything , but honorable mention, Like I said, I wrote some dark stuff that reflected my personal life back then, broken dysfunctinonal type family and the turmoil of being a teen, NOw you know why they call it " teen Angst!"
I hated that term myself,,,,,,,,I prefer simple childhood poetry or good ole Nursery Rhymes, somthing along the line of Pleo Sophie sat on a wall, Pleo Sophie had a great fall, and you fill in the rest of what happened to her..........LOL.

Congratulations! So how much is that in U.S. dollars? Was that on EBAY UK, or here in U.S.? I ask because I saw a similiar one in U.S. ebay, but I don't think the auction has ended and delivery to UK would be quite a bit, probably Priorty International. Anyway, congratulatons and hope your baby Dino arrives soon don't forget the photos. Have you decided on a name yet, or waiting to see the personality develop?

wow barretgazzy, thats a great deal for a new pleo!
i have a couple of questions: firstly, none of the glues i have tried on Ploo have worked very well so i am going to try suing some kind of rubber patches, what would everyone suggest for this? bicycle tyre type patches, or something else?

also, as you may know i was planning on making my own battery packs for Ploo, i made one and it hasn't gone quite as planned: when i put it in the charger cradle i can get the continous red light to come on for a bit but after a while it goes off adn there is no light at all, if i leave it off at the mains for a bit and then turn it back on it works again but only for a while, it has never got to a green light before and when i have tried it in Ploo without being fully charged there is nothing, any ideas as to what might be going on??

ye, i've seen that one, i'd rather not start hacking away at something when i might likely break it :P also i don't know if i'll be able to get one in the uk.

the instructions i've been following are here: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=610.0 (http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=610.0)

i still have 6 batteries left so if i can't get this one to work at least i can start again on a completely new pack
