(you can't even get new batteries for it anymore what will happen when they've passed their life cycle?) :-X
Sony supports the ERS-7 right up to 2013.
Until that time, new fresh batteries are being made in batches ever so now and then.
There is also a project in the works of replacing the cells in the existing batteries, which seems difficult but not impossible either. As far as I understood and followed up thusfar.
So at around 2012, when Diesel is running badly on his current battery... I will get a new one to make him last another few years.
Hopefully, it servos will last too up to then...

Actually Sony are not producing any new batteries for the 7 series, but only honouring warranty issues until 2013 for that model (which never included batteries in the first place).

You can buy new aibo batteries from sony on their website.
https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/index.jsp
Use the search in the upper right and select to search part numbers. Parts shown as out of stock will be back ordered from Japan and will take a few weeks to get. They are still shipping aibo batteries.

Having owned a 31L Pug (which uses the same battery as a 7) I can guarantee those batteries are not actually new. I have purchased one of these batteries from Sony Europe directly and asked them over the phone when I placed the order if it was a "new" battery. They are held stock from original production runs. Sony are not producing additional batteries, but selling what stock they have. Once their current stock runs dry there will be no more.

Either you or me got it wrong.
I am finding out who is, because that would mean those old batteries will be REALLY old when they hit 2012/2013 when I decide to order one.
So I really hope you are wrong! :P
(To be be continued...)

Yup, you are wrong and I was still right! Phew!
Both 2x0 and 7 batteries are still being made. 11x batteries are no longer in production.
That way the batteries shouldnt get stored for more than six months.
And that is how it is. :)

I'm just telling you what Sony Europe themselves told me personally on the telephone. So perhaps that person is wrong not me??? Which is an odd thing to tell me when I'm purchasing one of these batteries from them don't you think.

That person is indeed wrong.
My sources include no other then TeamDax, who is very closely tied to Sony when it comes to everything Aibo up to this day.
I can assure you he is a much more reliable source then whatever Sony agent you to spoke on the phone.
As I asked him, he is even now going to talk to Sony soon about the absurd total price, as the batteries are 30 euros but will include another 30 euros shipping and another 30 euros administration costs. :)

Hey don't get upset. I'm sure this Teamdax person is far more aware of what Sony Europe does than the actual Sony Europe Service personal (not an agent) that I spoke to personally over the phone ^-^

Do aibo batteries come with a date on them to say when they were manufactured?

Well I have no idea about Sony Europe specifically... all I know is that Sony still makes these batteries. Where they get manufactured and where you can order them from is not really relevant.
What is relevant is the fact Sony does still produce new batches from time to time and that detail is what is truly important for us 2x0 and 7 owners.
So if that person truly claimed that Sony in general (not just Europe) does not produce new batches anymore, she or he is very wrong!

A very good question indeed! I think it's a batch number. Let me find out for sure and get back to you on this. :)

I got a aibo 210 at a garage sale, but it was missing the battery. So, I ordered on from sony this morning. If you can find a way to trace the battery back to a manufacturing date by any of the numbers on it, let me know. I would be interested to find out when it was made.

Keep up with the news Darkwolf ;D Sony Europe is the only place in the world that covers any valid warranty or parts as arranged by Sony Japan. It would be incredible that a company who has discontinued a product would continue to manufacture parts for it. The only commitment Sony have made as to warranty for Aibo 7's is repairs and replacement parts if available. In fact Sony wasn't even going to honour warranty claims after deciding to discontinue Aibo production, but it was the European Consumer Watchdog (I forget their actual name just at the moment) who insisted that Sony did.

Yes, you are quite correct about the spare parts, so no argument there. No spare parts are being produced anymore EXCEPT for the batteries due to their limited shelf life.
If you could PM me the name of this representative you spoke to so I can pass it to TeamDax that would be great.
He requests this because this person you spoke to is simply downright wrong and he is going to make sure this person won't continue misspreading bad information to people like this.
Please understand, this is not about wanting to be right. I seriously feel discomforted by the idea that wrong information is being spread to existing Aibo owners like that.
TeamDax has been working closely with Sony since the beginning of Aibo and still has active relations with them even though Aibo is discontinued.
This is not a pissing contest. I would seriously appreciate it if you could PM me his or her name so we can get this confusion sorted. Thank you! :)

Ok, I got an answer back.
As far that is known, there isnt a batch number on batteries... even electronically (if you interagate a battery, they all have exactly the same date on them.)

I contacted Sony Parts USA about the battery production date controversary. At first they gave me the standard answer about all Aibo parts being manufactured in 2005 and earlier. Again I said I only want to know about the batteries you are selling online today. I was passed up the chain of authority five times until I got a guy in charge who told me that all customer service reps and parts specialists are told to give a standard answer about all Aibos and Aibo parts ending production in 2005 when ask anything aibo related. They are not allowed to give any other answer than that. However, with respect to the battery production dates he really does not know the answer. He says when they run out of supply, they order more from Japan and a fresh batch arrives. He says the quality control at sony always assures the new batches of batteries preform up to the expected standard. He has never ask about production date issues and will not ask. He suggested I call sony in Japan for the answer. Perhaps my experience with sony parts USA will shed some light on Ozpleos experience with sony parts Europe.
