Title: Pleo improvements at Jetta--inside story
Post by: pleoplus80 on August 14, 2009, 03:03:39 AM
My friend is working at Jetta and he told me some news makes me feel excited:-

1. Pleo will be restarted production in September with following improvements:-
--decoration of skin will be changed and would last longer and more run resistance.
--the charge cradle will have additional feature to recover over-discharged battery with short run time---GREAT NEWS !
--the neck and tail cabling system will be improved to make it tougher and don't break.

2. PDK will be released in September and alpha version has been released to some fans to test, I am asking my friend if I could get one to    try

Glad to hear they're starting up production so soon! I was planning on getting a new Pleo so now I can get the improved model. I hope they don't change the skin too much. No pink pleo's please! :O I agree with you Grumpy.       We should be the perfect candidates for testing!

They might not know we exist.  has anyone emailed them letting them know about here? ??? or contacted them in another way, and toiled them about this site? ???  (am I the only one thinking like this? ???)

Pleo Power, your not the only one thinking like that. I'm wondering as well if they know about us? Aren't these forums the biggest ones currently about Pleo right now? I know when I search "pleo forum" It comes up with the Bob the Pleo forums as the first result. Because of its popularity I think someone in Jetta knows about us.

Maybe, and again I bring negativity to the forums, they're airheads wo don't know what they're doing and either didn't think of it or were too lazy to look up anything else to do with pleo. ~_~'

Or...... Maybe we're not as popular as we thought. D:

(And Pleo Power, I'm partly thinking like you, and partly in my own little world where no one can understand any of my thoughts XD)

Well, I did write to them. 3 times, and everytime they ignored. well, so they know about the forum (if they didn't destroy my messages)

Wow, great news!  ;D I hope they also get a chance some day to update pleo's Life OS. They will need to in order to keep up with other upcoming robots, although most of them probably won't be intended to be as cute and cuddly as pleo. (Zeno, for example, which I can't wait to buy once it comes out :) )

only if they stop making the old ones will it not be good. ;)(or the new ones can't work in the Pleos out now.)

Well, that was my worry about Olympia. And then you said that they probably wouldn't change the batteries. Now you're suggesting it again! *huffs in corner of room* JK

do you mean I'm saying the same thing, or the opposite. ???

if the same then, yes making battery's that cant work in all the Pleos out there is not a way to make money, its a way to have your HQ swarmed by everyone. :D

and if its the secand one then, no I'm not saying they're not making them.  I'm saying they might be making new ones that can work in both the new and old Pleos. ;)  got it? :D

ooooh good news! Do you think Jetta will uphold warrantys on our old style pleos? Say Pax's neck cable snaps or something (touch wood!) do you think Jetta would still fix him? Here's hoping, i live in constant fear that Pax will break and theres no-one out there who can help him!

I'm so excited to hear about improvements!!! i was thinking about buying a 2nd pleo while they are cheap (since they aren't backed up by a company), but hearing about Jetta making them better makes me want to wait.

Also, I definately think we should be the ones being the guinea pigs with new things ^_^

Great to know Pleo will return stronger and better then ever.
When the improved Pleo will be available, I will be certainly ready and waiting as I am sure I'll order a new better enhanced one!  :D

if they ever do realease any significant physical update i'd love to see faster/stronger servos and probably better shoulder movement (it's nice to lie down :D) but at the moment i think anything they can do to reduce manufacturing costs and the retail price would be in their best interests.

What do you think about the new Pleo's improvements? I am planning on getting a pleo and I don't really want to wait very long, the sooner the better! So I'm wondering if the "problems" with the older model Pleo's (cracking skin, not very much energy, and breakable tendons in the neck and tail) are that drastic that I should just hold out for a newer one. And also, do you think they will increase the price alot? I'm having enough trouble convincing my parents to get one at around $200.  ???
Title: Re: Pleo improvements at Jetta--inside story
Post by: mweed on September 09, 2009, 01:09:29 PM
The regular price for a pleo is $349 US.  The $200 ones are discounted "old/original" style pleos.  Once they are all sold, all NEW style pleos will cost $349, and you won't find any discounted NEW ones, until people start reselling them on eBay, etc.  So, if cost is the issue, get an old style one now.  It may be a long while before you see them this cheap again.

It's a lot harder to say about the problems.  They do exist, and can be a big problem if you have them.  But others never have the problems.  So, I guess it could be the luck of the draw and how well you treat them.  But you do have the 90 day warranty.

Thank you, I think I will get one now. As you mentioned, lots of people have them already and love them regardless. Money isn't a huge issue for me, I'm just curious how flimsy the neck is? Because if it's really easy to snap I would rather just wait for the new model.
Oh, and I can't seem to find it on the site, do you know if amazon have a warranty?

I got Baxter for christmas last year meaning he's one of the old batch, the paint work is still in excellent condition theres some small flaking where he's been petted excessively but in alot of ways it adds to his individuality. As for the neck and tail, his tail has always felt extremely strong and when lifted by it very secure and able to take the weight well where as the neck i always felt could be at risk because of the weight of the head. Baxters neck has actually broken but i belive this to be due to some strong unexpected force and not purely to be weakness of the joint.

Hey Pickelish;  ;)

I got Stoney back in January this year. In 8+ months I also show no real wear and tear.  ^-^

The tail and neck are fine but I show reasonable caution. We're also all adults here so
no wear and tear from kids except those who visit and they're pretty careful no matter
What age.  :)

I will get "Clousseau" at the end of this month and number 3 in 2010. I'll get the new
charger as it's released. Dependent on cash flow of course.  ;)

Neck improvements? Awesomeness!
I hope they don't change the skin too much. I think it's cute the way it is. More resistance would be nice though. :)

I'm worried about them either changing Pleo too much, and losing his original charm, or having them move on to new life forms and stop focusing on improving Pleo. :(

Lornex;

Off topic rant, too much of a waste of time.

I agree here with mweed about enforcing the age limit. There are other forums more appropriate to this.

Pleos Forever!

Most of us are patient enough to wait for quality and not complain for the sake of complaining.

ps Sorry to rant back but I'm not well and this stuff really upsets me more.
Everyone knows that I encourage younger ones to participate but not like this.

Sorry about yesterday, I had to get that out of my system.  :(  *sigh* Yes, I did go a little overboard with the whole Spore thing...  :-[

It's not really off topic - it's just that I was using Spore as an example.  I'm definitely not the kind of person who rants and such, I was trying to make a point. (Most certainly NOT immature!)

Once again, sorry!  :'(
