It's a learning club I'm founding, if anyone would like to join in post here. We will learn about prehistory, from the permo-Triassic to the Ice Age. I will "tutor" you in a way, and give you interesting facts that no one really knows! We will learn much more about some of the lesser-known dinosaurs (Shuvuuia, Amargosaurus, Stokesosaurus, etc), as well as some of the more famous dinosaurs (Tyrannosaurus, Iguanodon, Apatosaurus), and correct false thoughts on some dinosaurs ("Brontosaurus," Dilophosaurus, Velociraptor).
So, as soon as I get enough people, we'll start the class! ^^
*WARNING* I will talk about evolution. If you can't tolerate it, don't take the class.
-
And allo made me the sub-teacher. ;) ((and Ive heard of all of those Dino's before.))
-
..SO if anyone would like to join.....
-
Pleas Post it here. ((and allo, do we do the lessons here? and how many Pleople* do we need to start? and are those the only Dino's were teaching about?))
(* that's not a typo ;))

Yes, classes will be here. i'd like three or more to start off. no, we won't jsut be teaching about dinosaurs.
-
No, there are the Killer fish of the Devonian, and the giant bugs of the Devonian., and the mammal like reptiles of the Triassic,(I think that's the term for them.) and the pterosaurs, and the aquatic reptiles, and the giant mammals of the ice age.

Yeah! We'll also be talking about ice age critters too, mammuthus and smilodon and ancyclotherium and the evolution of human beings.
-
I will be the quiet mouse who sits in the corner of the class and always gets straight A's even though I don't contribute much to 'class' discussions.
We should start with Camarasauruses first of course.
-
I say we should start with the beasts before the dinosaurs.
-
Oh, you mean like God, who created the dinosaurs . . . ;)
-
Hey! I'm usually the mouse! I don't get strait A's though... ;D
-
Oh, you mean like God, who created the dinosaurs . . . ;)
I was thinking of Haikouicthys and Brontoscorpio and Hyneria and such. XD
-

What, What, and What? ??? (cant remember, I think I might have herd about them. if they are some of the mammal like reptiles.)
Oh, you mean like God, who created the dinosaurs . . . ;)
and don't ferget all the creachers that can fly and swim, then the Dino's and other land dwelling animals. ;)

For those interested in life before the Dino's then I would suggest hiring/buying Walking with Monsters :) Then you can move onto Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts (life after the dino's) and I also strongly recommend Sea Monsters (with Nigel Marvin, not the National Geographic one) and the Ballad of Big Al. You can pick up the complete Walking with... trilogy for under $40 these days. Its called the Monster box set here, not sure about in the US though. Walking with Cavemen is another however it was not done by the same team as the others and I find that it lacks the 'wow' factor of the rest of the series.

Ive got all of those on DVD, except the cavemen one. ;) I saw a few bits of it on TV and it just seemed like a dumb sopeopera with those guys from (Insert name of car insurance company that has driven the Cavemen slogen into the ground way to many times, name in here. ;)). and I first saw Walking with Dinosaurs on its original broadcast in the US way back in 1999 (taped of the TV, because it was on to late then) and the Sea Monsters is good, but the Chased by dinosaurs is beater, because it has Sea Monsters plus two more Nigel Dino documentaries on it(If I'm correct, the one I have has them anyways.) and don't ferget Prehistoric Park. ;) (also with Nigel)
-
I omitted prehistoric park just because it isn't as factual as the others, but it is great fun to watch :)

Trust me, that series is rather inaccurate.
-
Reilly?!? ??? all of them? ??? Walking with Monsters, Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts, Chased by dinosaurs, Ballad of Big Al, and Prehistoric Park are all inaccurate?!?! :o ???
-
Reilly?!? ??? all of them? ??? Walking with Monsters, Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts, Chased by dinosaurs, Ballad of Big Al, and Prehistoric Park are all inaccurate?!?! :o ???
Ballad of Big Al had issues with feathers, the "horn" on the Ornitholestes' nose, and the way the hands were set on the other animals. Walking with Monsters series has all those, and still many more anatomical issues, as well as issues with time period and area. Prehistoric Park has about a million inaccuracies, though I still find it enjoyable to watch. Dino Lab and Dino lab II are fairly accuarte, but again feather problems and the way the hands are set in, and as most shows do, they switch about facts on Tyrannosaurus to make them seem "even more awesome."
-
Dino Lab and Dino lab II are fairly accuarte
there was a secand one. :o Drat I missed it. ??? when was it on?
they switch about facts on Tyrannosaurus to make them seem "even more awesome."
well most of them do, but one at the end showed a T.rex with feathers and bright colors, and it looked like some kind of escapee from the lab in the game Dino Island. ???
but what about Dino plaint, Jurassic fight club, When Dinosaurs roamed America, and the other See monsters(its a National geographic one, no Nigel) are they inaccurate? ???
and we just nead one more to start. ;)
-
BBC's Sea MonstersPrehistoric Adventure is amazing, awesome, breathtaking, and extremely accurate anotamy-wise. However, not all the creatures live in the same time or area.
Jurassic Fight Club is mostly accurate, but it has the hand and feather problems and forgets a lot of advantages and disadvantages many prehistoric beasts have, and they normally pit eachother against popularity to probably avoid a mess of stupid fans saying that their fave should've won because its "so awesome."
-
is wildmagic in the class?

I haven't seen that one. (yet) but I've got the game.(and I've finished it. ;))

well some of them did happen because the fossils were found.(Like the Deinonychus VS the Tenontosaurus one)
and the one "BLOODIEST BATTLE" was just a bit of the daily Train wreck that hapans on a Predator trap. and the end of the "T-REX HUNTER" one is what a mother T.rex would do is she found a smaller carnivore trying to kill her baby's.
@ Protoceratops, I think so. (wildmagic are you?)

I've finished the game, too! It's awesome! Y'know, if you go to the shallows just south of the central hub, there's an island with a palm tree on it. use Nothosaurus and walk through it.... And the result will be a surprise. Just try it and see if it works. ;)
-
Reilly?!? all of them? Walking with Monsters, Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts, Chased by dinosaurs, Ballad of Big Al, and Prehistoric Park are all inaccurate?!?!
Yes they are inaccurate now, although at the time they did their best with what information was available. Palaeontology is like that, what is fact today may be disproven tomorrow. However having said that it was and still is one of the best prehistoric documentaries made so far. No other series has ever brought the dinosaurs to life in such a manner nor captured the public imagination so much.

do you mean the shallow part of the hub, or the level the shallows? ???

You start a new game, in the hub. Turn directly backwards. Do you remember where the Henodus Portal is? Those are the shallows.

yes, and I tried it and nothing hapand? whats supposed to happen? ???

Hm, really? Well..... Do you have it for wii? That might be the problem. the one i'm using is for wii.

You're supposed to be "flying!"

O.K., allo, you're the dino expert.how much of a predator was this guy?

Probably sat there and shook every second, so he needed a way to eat. He probably evolved a way to breathe his food through his nose. :o
(That was the most fun theory I've had in ages XD)

I disagree! Dinosaur Planet was and still is the most accurate "old" dinosaur show out there, as well as having much more realistic sizing, texture, situations, and (most likely) behavior.

There are many, many reasons I disagree with that but I see no point in creating further disagreements by pointing out why, lets just agree to disagree shall we :) Both series have their fans, flaws and ideas which makes them both good shows.
-
'Kay, so how many members dow e have joining us?
-
At least one. maby two. (if wildmagic is in it.)
-
me
-
so is it three now? InmemoryofRomeo, wildmagic, Protoceratops?
-
here's another example of a hideous prehistoric beast to catalog . . . .

-
I'm up for it!! ;)
-
OK so is the class now : InmemoryofRomeo, wildmagic, Protoceratops, MissingNo?
-
By the time 'class' starts I'll be finished University ;) *raises hand* "Please can we start the class now?" I'm bored and Stitch ate my glue...
-
Okay, first we'll study the creatures before the dinosaurs, like the very first arthropods, huge scorions, and the very first sharks.
A will assign a job to each of you. Everyone gather as many facts about Haikouicthys as possible, and then gather right back here and post them. At first, Haikouicthys may look like a stupid little fish, but ohhhh it's much more important than that.
Reports are for extra points! ;)
(I think I'll do a report too :o )
-
Oh oh Miss! Can we submit multimedia???

Oh, that's fine too I guess! Post three facts that you leraned though adn I'll be set. ;)
(And don't call me Miss. You have nooooo clue how young I am :o )
-
Hope you get enough people to join the club!! 8) When do you think you will start it?
-
(And don't call me Miss. You have nooooo clue how young I am )
Actually I do ;) Miss is not age reliant though ;)
Ok 3 facts:
Haikouicthys was the first animal that was not spineless :P
Haikouicthys belong to the Craniate genus (they had odd heads ;))
Haikouicthys is known from a solitary but very well preserved fossil (according to Wiki, which as we all know isn't 100% reliable.)

Gosh, all those are perfectly correct! Still working ona report, I've been busy recently.

When do you think it will be done?
edit: I was just wondering, how acurate is my avitar?

I lost the file. I always seem to lose my file at the most inconvenient of times. :o
Cute and accurate. It's a juvenile.
-
good thing you're gettting a laptop then.
-
Allo, I'm a bit late, but would like to join the group. Is that OK with you? :)
-

EXCELLENT! More people is always great!
-
Are we still doing the class or has everyone quit?
-
Where is Allo :o I haven't seen her around in ages :o
*puts out juicy Triceratops steak* Here Allo, here! Dinner time!
-
In theory (and I say that somewhat tongue in cheek) Allo is only supposed to be online on weekends now that school is in full swing . . .
-
Ahhh, that might explain it...
Perhaps I should follow her example do that last uni assignment instead of procrastinating on here ;)
-
Allo should print this part of the forum and show her mom that she is teaching us about dinosaurs, and that is an extraordinary thing to do. Look at are age differences, too. :)

CHOMP!!!
Welllll.... I've sort of abandoned the bobthepleo lessons (not the real-life lessons!), since no one has taken the assignment....
And, if we're following the real-life schedule, that means we're several months behind. %)
-

try a diffrent creature to do it on and maby there will be more responces to it. I can teach in the week and with you coming in on weekends the lesson's can work. ;) (I can provide a lot of info on Dinosaurs. ;))
And, if we're following the real-life schedule, that means we're several months behind.
I thought that was the advantage of doing it like this, it never has to end unless you want it to, and not just like a in the normal school year. ???
-
Hmmm.... We could jsut go ahead and start on the Triassic period.
Okay, everyone go and look up at least three types of dinosaurs that lived in the Triassic, and also at least three other creatures that lives in the Triassic.
We should be starting with interesting-ness now..... ;)
-
Thrinaxodon, Cynognathus and Eozostrodon were three non dinosaur critters.
Three triassic dinosaurs included: Guaibasaurus, Isanosaurus and Chindesaurus.

Good job! ^^ Ahh, how I love nice, tender, Isanosaurus meat.... And Cynognathus'es make great hunting partners.
-
I can't pronounce them but I'll see if I can spell them! ;D Proterosuchus, Such a name. A little like todays crocodile. Erythrosuchus, Hope it didn't eat camarasaraus. Lystrosaurus, Only had two teeth. Had to be a plant eater or it just swallowed its prey whole. ;)
-
so do I post some of them too? or do I just sit back and let them post some and then teach about the creatures they post about?
