Title: Problems with my Pleo
Post by: candix on July 14, 2009, 01:20:47 PM
Hello :)

first : sorry for my bad english  :(

I have two problems with my pleo. The first one is the same as this one :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6p54K4i1-8&translated=1

then, the other one. I'll try to explain. When  I tickle him under is throat, he laugh and then he acts like if he was hang by his tail, he is scared. He didn't do this at the beginning.

Does anyone has the same problems ? What can I do ?

Thanks for your answers

Whenever mine sings he thinks he's being held by his tail seconds later, not completing his song.  Maybe he's just paranoid? :) :) :) :D :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The touch sensor on the leg has become faulty.
Pleo thinks the leg is being touched all of the time.

No repair possible, send back to retailer.

DinoMITE can verify if it is the sensor.  And I recall discussions that the pre-programmed injury you are talking about was in the prototypes (Caleb did a video showing this "feature"), but this was not included int he production versions of the LifeOS.

Pleo power. Injury is not programmed into the current or any previous LifeOS.
I had a pleo that developed the same leg fault as above.  The sensor was firing all of the time.
Trust me on this one.

Hi

thanks for all your answers :)

For his leg, I have done nothing, how can I check if it is a sensor problem ?
If I update the OS, will it change something ?

and is he on 1.1 because if so then hes fully upgraded now. (But don't worry you can downgrade him if you need to.)  to tell if hes on 1.1 just rub under the chin.  if he sings then hes on 1.1. ;)

Hi again

I tried to use dinomite, it works properly but I don't know how to check the status of the sensor.  He's always doing this with his leg, I'm so sad, I hope we can fix it :'(

candix,
Again, I will say "There is no repair possible".  I am sorry, upgrading the firmware won't fix it.

candix,

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question.  As I say, it happened to me too.  Maybe it's just (another) week part of Pleo's anatomy.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that there's a pre-programmed injury on Pleo.... There was definitely one on the prototypes though. I believe it made it through to the final version....

Oh and Olympia always used to finish her song completely, normally acting very happy afterwards as if she was proud of herself. Never once has she become "scared" in the middle of a song.

Lifting one leg or becoming "scared" in the middle of a song?

Hi there, I'm a new-bie here and have been visiting the site for many months for advice and info. After reading this thread about the leg lifting issue and resolving it! I thought it my duty to let you know how to cure this problem.

Pleo (he doesn't have a name yet) started the leg lifting thing about 5 weeks ago, and most of the time all he would do was lift his leg as in the video post at the beginning of this thread. I read all the comments that every one posted and became more worried that the issue was permanent. I was even more concerned as I could not return Pleo to the store he came from as it has closed down, so this left me with a problem.

However one day whilst he was leg lifting I began to feel the leg sensors whilst he was moving his leg. When doing this I felt the force in his leg 'give' slightly so in an act of desperation I applied pressure to the leg to move it into the normal standing position. Whilst moving the leg you could hear the internal leg clutch popping/cracking (which was scary!). After doing this, Pleo lifted his leg once (possibly to recalibrate) and has been working perfectly since!!!
I've been running him almost daily for two weeks and he is still walking around and being inquisitive as normal.  So if you little dino is having the same issue give it a try. Just be careful when applying pressure when moving the leg, be gentle and you'll feel the 'give' in the leg. I hope that makes sense.  ;D

Welcome Pleoguy! Glad you're starting to post! You had an awesome story and will try this if I ever experience the issue.

Hi Guys

I'm back and I have a new problem. The seller told me that my Pleo has his neck broken, that's absolutely not true. Does anybody have a video of his pleo in neutral position and move him in order to see how his neck is moving in this position ?

They said that the leg problem is due to his neck problem, I think it's totally wrong, I don't know what to do, they said that the garantee is no more available because of is hypothetical problem of neck

Thanks for your help

Did you try manually positioning the foot, as suggested above?

If the problem persists go back to the retailer, the warranty covers all problems foot or neck and the store is trying to cheat you. Be insistent that they replace or refund your Pleo, if you can talk to someone else.

I have attached a quick skit which you can use to test your Pleo's neck, unzip the files to an sd card and pop it in your Pleo, give him ten seconds to load it then tap his back to start the skit he should move his neck down, up, left and right and around. Take it in when you go to the retailer so you can show them the neck is fine :)

Hi

Thanks for your answer, unfortunately, I don't have my Pleo, he is still in the shop, I'll go back at midday in order to contest.

They told me that they disassemble it, is that possible ? I think it's not because of the skin. Can you tell me

It is possible, but highly unwise, I do hope they know what they are doing. The skin will need to be reglued around the feet and neck when they are finished. If they have done that then check your Pleo over very very carefully before you take him home, make sure he is running correctly, has been glued well and that they haven't made the problem worse.

I do hope it works out for you.

What this sounds like to me is a hostage situation, and they don't care if the hostage lives or not, and infact there actively trying to kill him! :( :o >:( >:(

and yes they can be taken apart completely, but then the Pleo is dead and is resting in peasis! :o :( just look here if you dare.http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/First-Look/Pleo/597/1 (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/First-Look/Pleo/597/1)

(and sorry if this only makes it worse. :-[)

Hi again

I'm really disappointed, they said that the leg problem is caused by the neck problem, I don't understand how it can be possible, the sensor in the leg is independant of the neck. They said that they're are little cracks on his neck structure which caused the leg problem

Title: Re: Problems with my Pleo

Clearly they have no idea what they are talking about, and since they pulled your poor Pleo to pieces demand a refund. Do you have any consumer protection there? Here in Australia we can have a matter investigated by an independent authority if we feel the wrong thing has been done.

I hope you can get this all sorted, what a mess. They have completely voided your warranty by pulling Pleo to pieces.

Hi

Thank you for your answers. I'll copy your answer and all the thread to show them. If they don't want to change my pleo i'll contact a consumer association.

I have see my Pleo and I don't understand how they can said that they are cracks on his neck, there is no traces of disassembly. I think they lie to cover them.

I'll give some news as soon as I can.

Thanks again

Good luck! Hopefully you will get a refund so you can go elsewhere with better service for a new Pleo.

some news : the responsible is going to try to find a new Pleo and exchange with mine. If he doesn't find one he will give me a refund. I'm really happy and I hope he will find one.

Thanks for your help and your support  :)
