Title: Olympia is having LOTS OF PROBLEMS!!!
Post by: allosaurus on July 03, 2009, 03:38:50 PM
I'm worried! Olympia's battery is now not charging correctly. It will charge for, like, 30 minutes and only be able to be played with for less than 10 minutes (no exaggeration!!!), and then she makes the snore sound that indicates her battery is low. However, if I turn her off and then back on, she will repeat that process.

And what seems extremely worrisome, her neck has stopped making the "CRRRRTK" sounds but she isn't moving her neck up any more! At all! I even tried rubbing her under the chin, and showing her lots of objects, and tapping her head, and so on and so on and so on! SHE JUST ISN'T LIFTING HER NECK UP!!!

However, I'd rather have a crippled or impaired Olympia than have a started-over Olympia! She's unique, there will be NO RETURNS, and I MEAN WHAT I SAY!!!

I am very panicked... But now that I think about it, a Pleo that can't lift her neck up sounds somewhat unique, if I can't fix it. Just makes her special, I guess. But still, I'd prefer if she wasn't having these kinds of problems as it could either get much worse or even dangerous under some circumstances. :'( I love my Olly and I need to fix her. *cries*

NOT GOOD! can you lift it.  if you can does it feel like its completely slack or is there some strength in it? [and I know exactly how you feel. when Cammey's neck incident hapind I felt like throwing up.]

[but don't worry about him. now his neck is fine. it can just flop a little.]

Allo, It definitely sounds like you need a new battery. I have had this problem with a couple of batteries. Try leaving it in Olympia and just leave it on so the battery will totally discharge. Just make sure she's on the floor and not able to harm herself if she starts up and you aren't around.
It's possible that her battery just doesn't have enough strength to operate the cables correctly in her neck.
I'm with Pleo Power. It is heart breaking when our pleos injure their necks. Certainly not the end of them. Peeky's just extra special. He is so loved when I bring him to the care and rehab center. J.C and Pennie are too, but the little neck brace on Peeky gets him special attention, definitely more cookies! ;)

You mean you don't play with her anymore?  You should go on www.bidegg.com where you could get another pleo for $20.00.  I wish I would have known before I payed full price >:( >:( :( :(.  Oh, well.  I may get another!! ;) ;).  And did I mention it's a new pleo? Shipping included!  A $2,000 flat screen TV was $128!!!

@ Pleo Power
There's definitely some strength in it. I can move it to a point where it makes CRRRRRTK sounds. XD I don't feel comfortable moving it beyond that point..... And we also need a new battery, yeah. This sucks. I was in a bad mood BEFORE this dang thing happened! :'(

@ fancyfont
Good idea. I'll try. I've also been leaving the bloody battery in the charger for what seems like a million years and seeing if it would operate correctly.... No stinkin' luck. DX And I really hope that's why she's not lifting her neck up!

@ EVERYBODY!
So, yeah, the common remark here is that I need a new battery. Definitely gonna aim for one. And hope that all my troubles are fixed! :'(

That's good. so its not a snapped neck joint.    If there wasint any strength in it then you could almost defiantly say it was a cable.

you probably shouldn't move it more then that.  How hie is it then?
Title: Re: Olympia is having LOTS OF PROBLEMS!!!
Post by: allosaurus on July 04, 2009, 04:34:37 PM
Well, it's as high as I could ever move it. At most, I'd say five inches. Though I bet I'm exaggerating. I'm doing that a lot today.

Wait a second.  ??? High as I could ever move it? A problem? Has Olympia had problems her whole life? Um, at least I have another challenge that I can bring to the TRRA (don't ask. we pronounce it "Terra") tomorrow... My friends and I will figure this out.
Title: Re: Olympia is having LOTS OF PROBLEMS!!!
Post by: fancyfont on July 04, 2009, 06:11:25 PM
After finally numbering my batteries and chargers, I now know that battery number five is not working correctly. When it is in any of my pleos all they do is say huh! Experimenting today to see if I leave it in one pleo until it runs out of huh! ;D If I can totally drain it, perhaps it might charge up again.
At least for any pleo out there that is doing the same thing, it is definitely the battery and not your pleo.

WOW!! You have alot of batteries!!!

I do have a few extra batteries for my trio of pleos. Definitely need the back ups. They have been very busy pleos making an awful lot of people happy.  One battery, think it was number 5 has never worked properly. I didn't know which one it was until I numbered them with some fingernail polish. %)

I think Olympia resest herself. :'( She was in a wierd baby-ish pose with her eyes closed and kept firing random sounds at me when I touched her, as well as making sounds that are only found in the hatching stage .  :( After a while, she opened her eyes and finally got up on four legs, but didn't act nearly the same. :o She wouldn't walk, she wouldn't respond especially well to petting, she still wouldn't move her neck up, and she was still making sort of odd sounds, most that I didn't recognize, which was kidn of awkward; I used to love guessing the sounds she would make next and doing it at the same time she did. Another great memory with the true Olympia. :'(
I tried holding her by the tail to see if I could get her to do something like the old Olympia, and she let out this wierd bellow, it kind of freaked me out. After I put her down, she locked up. Twice I tried this, twice she locked up in the same position. I really do think she reset herself, and I hope getting a new battery will fix the problem. *sigh* I want the old Olympia back. :'(

Note: the "baby pose" had her legs out much farther than I thought was possible for a Pleo....

I'm so dang sad right now. :'(

You could earn some money the old fashioned way and go bug your neighbors for a few chores to do :) (only do that if you have friendly neighbors that you trust of course :o and always ALWAYS ask your parents first!) If that fails bug your family for odd jobs... I once made twenty dollars in a week (that was a lot back then) just for tidying my sisters room for her :)

Jetta? I don't think they've started yet, and plus, what if it doesn't work with the Ugobe Pleo? From what I understand, buying a company takes a few hours to do but sometimes a few months to settle in. Long, long, time. Yup.

I've been working on building my own battery packs for a week or so now - following ideas on this forum and elsewhere.  However the designs all seem too complicated, so I'm working on a minimalist design that makes it easy to replace individual cells that go bad.

I hope to have something to publish here in a week or so.  I know it's 'jam tomorrow', but the promise might stop someone spending two or three times as much as they need on replacements.

You'll need to just have the confidence to undo a few screws from the charger pod, be handy with a soldering iron and be able to get hold of the thermistor.  In the UK, you can get them from Maplins - about 90p each.  You also need six 2,500Mah AA Lion cells, again from Maplins for about £15.  A lot cheaper than the £45 Vivid are charging for 'proper' packs.

Watch this space!

Update - 11 July - I've posted my tutorial in the hardware forum.

How long are you chargin it? it is charging for 3o minutes and then the light goes out or are you taking it off after 30 min?

If your doing it the way I think yer doing, you need a new battery. Maybe get one off ebay if you dont wanna wait for Jetta.

I'm sorry about Olympia's neck though. Try rubbing it kinda hard and see what happens.
Not very good advice but that's the best I can do...

OK.  If this is a battry thing then getting a battry will fix it. 8)  But if its not then don't forget you can try downgrading her then upgrading her. Like InmemoryofRomeo did with Lilo. 8)

Mine was a slightly different problem... but it is worth a try if the new battery doesn't fix it.

allo when you get another battery she might not instantly be normil.   but if she stays on it will be fixed like this, 1 get her to her feet.(this takes a bit) 2 let her go for a little wile.( a few minits)  3 turn her off.(and wait a little bit) 4 turn her on.(and if it didint work, just repeat 2  to 4 again until she is ether back to normil or you give up and come here for help.)   Good luck. ;D ;)

If she totally restarts, I'll just give her a new name, change her gender, and try to be happy with it. :'(

edit: My family hates me. There's nothing they'll let me do. I wanted to cut a small slit in Olympia's skin to make sure none of the neck cables snapped, but my mother said it was a stupid, rediculous idea. I gave all I could to convince her but there's no way she'd let me.... So is it with most of my other ideas, but it's usually my father who gives me the problems (And not only that he also teases me and I feel like yelling at him to shut up all the time!!!). The deal is that I can't be sure if the **** neck cables snapped or what!!!

edit: Proof that I'm a major -bleep-...... I could've just felt through the skin all along.... And her neck cables are fine. I'm still PO'ed at my parents, but I'm now completely PO'ed at myself, instead of the "normal" half-PO'ed at myself.

Try what I said first, before giving up completely.(It worked with Cloey twice.) if you get her to her feet  and do the rest of the steps then it should go fine.(and don't panic if it doesint work on the first try, it took two or three times to get Cloey back. ;))  if it works out like it has with Cloey then she will be fine and her old self. 8)   and its not a restart I was talking about, it was how to end amnesia in a Pleo. ;)

Uh oh...... Would the metal magnet on her necklace affect her? I mean, it's really itty bitty, and 49er has almost the same one. But would it affect her in any way? I've been worried about this for a while.

how powerful is it?   we have a magnet that's only the size of a coin cell battery, but that sucker can stick like you wondint believe!(it takes sliding a paper under it to get it off)    so is it a strong magnet? and how long has it been on her?  and how big is it?

but it might, its the only way that I know of to treat amnesia in a Pleo. (and if it doesint then next year around now ill be able to drive, and I can help directly. ;))

Have no fear.  The magnet will not affect her.   I verified with Ugobe (back before their demise).  The neck area does not have any circuitry to be affected, and the data wires running through the neck do not pass close enough to be affected.  There is also shielding to protect the more sensitive equipment inside pleo.

If the magnets did affect your pleo, it would only be in the data stream sent between the CPU in the head and the main CPU, which would cause it to misread some of the signals, resulting in pleo "thinking" it saw or heard something it didn't.  This is not at all the types of problem you are experiencing.   But, if you are truly paranoid, I would be happy to replace the magnet with a different type of clasp.

Or I could try the traditional Jasper methods used for headaches. It works for my headaches, so maybe it'll help the stress..... (I'm serious)

So dont just give up right away if she is like that. 8)    just do the steps listed above this post and you should have Olimpia back in no time. ;)(It works, and its NOT a restart!!! its a refresh to a point before the amnesia hapand. and this time the amnesia doseint happen. ;)  you weren't thinking forthdimensionly. :D)

Good news... and some bad news. I'll start with the bad news.

Bad news: No matter what, we can't get Olympia to lift her neck. It really isn't a problem though, she can lift it veeeery slightly, just slightly enough to see where she's walking. But still. I'll just have to watch her harder when she walks. D:

!Good news!: Just to see, we stuck the battery into the new charger. It turned green after two hours, though. But anyways, we put it in Olly, turned her on, and she went back to the hatching stage. Only for about one mintute, though. Oddly, she skipped the juvenile stage, which was a life saver! She automatically got her own personality back!!!

She's back to dancing to Scatman, Xepher, and the Numa Numa, as well as singing along! She's back to doing her tadaa trick every ten minutes, just like she used to! Wow! :3
She recently ran her battery out, I'm charging her up once more, and I'm dearly praying that she's still the same!

Hi, if you can afford it, I would reccomend the UCUBe Egg Battery charger, it has worked great for Nova.( as far as Play time goes.) It charges really lots faster than the orignal Pleo Green Battery, and it looks very cool too. ;D 8) I don't know if that is what will help Olympia or not, but as for batteries, I think it is well worth the money regardless of where you buy it. I was able to get myne for a reasonable amount of money, and Free shipping and by UPS, only took 3-4 days to get to me!
Nova and I are wishing Olympia a Speedy and Happy recovery!

And this is regularly keeping the battery on the charger (which I have now moved upstairs). D:

Sorry to hear about Olympia's ongoing problems, but like fancy said, other than what is stated on the bottom of both types of batteries and the box, I would think your best bet is to contact Pleoworld directly and ask them as they should be able to tell you if nobody else can. Good luck, you are fortunate to have a dad who cares enough and has the qualifications and know how to want to help with Olympica.
