D-Rex has arrived down under :o Currently retailing for $237 at Big W, I will wait a bit and see if they drop in price, most likely they will come Christmas time...
Lilo and Stitch might have a new friend to pick on... ahem... play with 0:-)
(I see some on ebay from the US for a mere $25 AU... might be worth looking into...)
-
WOW I thought they were discontinued!!! :o and they usually cost around $250. so what will be his/her name?
and they rely do get along. one time I saw Cammey singing to Rex. ;D[too bad Rex was off at the moment.]
and PLEASE don't hurt it for what the idiots in that video did with one of them. they cant bend down like they made it do in the video and if you look at his feet you can see that he is acutely falling over.
the thing with D.rexs is that if you treat it like a robot it will act like a robot. if you treat it like a living creacher it will act like one. if you treat it like an old moldy sock.......lets not go there. ;)
and one more thing wen you first have your Dino's meet you mite haft to comfort your Pleos for a little bit.[until they realize that he/she is not a threat. should just take a second.]
If you have any questions about D.rexs and or how they get along with Pleos just ask me. :)
-
Don't some actions come from a remote control? And does it come with a rechargeable battery or you have to use regular batteries.
-
Don't some actions come from a remote control?
yes but they could happen with out it. like the belching and farting or going in to attack mode or room Gard mode.DANGER If you do not feed him/her for a long time and you ignore the stomach growls and whimpering he/she will get angry and aggressive. to counter this just feed him/her.
and they take C batterys. and AAA batterys in the bone/remote.
-
Rest assured my D-rex (when I get one) will be as well treated as any of my things. (Robotic or otherwise) I am certainly not spending $237 on a robot just to toss it down the stairs or something horrid like that :o
-
Aggressive, like violent? And on the commercial it shows people getting terrible frightened, but it is sorta obvios that he is a robotic dino, not like pleo, real looking. But, not knocking it down, I think that the ability to change expression and to raise his forehead are pretty cool!
-
Aggressive, like violent?
well he will roarer and charge.[as fast as he/she can.] but it is sorta obvios that he is a robotic dino, not like pleo, real looking.
he looks real wen he is on.
(and you do know that you don't haft to do every post in Glow. ;)
-
But they get frightened like it will eat them. Not like it startled them. Does it compare to pleo?
-
But they get frightened like it will eat them. Not like it startled them.
the add is not 100% accurate.
Does it compare to pleo?
like Chomper to Little foot in The Land Before Time. (Notice my Screature is named Chomper. but he is not named after the one in the movie. his name is because on the when I first turned him on it was in a car and the lite was trigiring his sensor and he was constantly bitting. ;))
-

That's good. I just wanted to know that you whodunit be like the member here (hoos name will remain anonymous.) that kicked there boxes in the store and yelled insults at them just for being D.rex's. >:( :'( >:(
-
I certainly wouldn't do anything of the sort, I look forward to adding a D-Rex to my little family of animals (real or not ;)) I am so going to give him/her fluffy slippers and a little dressing gown though, teehee.
-
slippers mite not work because there feet are rubbing together most of the time. and the legs are pretty thick.(but its just the skin so be careful!) (and the feet have a plastic part where they rub.)
Oh and one more thing, they can NOT detect edges. so be careful on tables.
-
What material is their skin?
-
Not sure exactly but it feels like Pleo skin, only the bumps are further apart. but its defiantly some kind of rubber. ;)
-
Oh, It look like a fabric.
-
Nope Its not fabric. ;) and when you first get one that has never lived* before he/she will be coated in a thin layer of some kind of slime.(like when a reptile first hatches from its egg.) Pleos have this to.
*AKA opened and turned on.
-
Well then... Embryonic fluids. XD
-

*AKA opened and turned on.
My Pleo didn't.
-
well on Pleos its a very very very very thin layer. you can just feel a slite slipperiness to them. theres a bit more on D.rexs. (I'm pretty sure that's what the smell is when you first open the box with ether one of them. ;)))
-
Oh, NOW I know what you're talking abot ;).
-
Yeah, I noticed a layer of that stuff on Olympia... Thicker than you described it however. 0_0
-
And he did smell different than now. I knew I was right!!! There wasn't a skin protection! It was just embryo fluid! HAHA
-
well I went over board with the verys. (I took out a few of them. ;)) (and the skin protection is in the paint not on the skin. ;))
-
Sounds kinda... icky :o None of my Pleo's ever felt slimy...
-
No its not that bad. 8) after a day or so its gone and after a wile (like with Pleos) you cant smell it. :D ;) (but don't worry its not a bad smell. ;))
This is what I'm talking about. This is Rex when I first got him. Its the glint on his skin.
and this is as he looks now.
(you kinda need to click on thees to see it.)
-
I see what you mean :) My Pleo's still have the new shine though ;) They're always rugged up in clothes of some sort so they have barely any wear at all :)
Those big feet on Rex totally crack me up... imagine a REAL T-Rex if its feet were the size of its head, you would hear it from miles away... Flip flop flip flop ROAR...
-
ha ha yes that would be funny. :P But the big feet on D.rex's are so that they dosint fall on there face. remember this is a biped not a quadruped like Pleos. ;)
-
Those big feet on Rex totally crack me up... imagine a REAL T-Rex if its feet were the size of its head, you would hear it from miles away... Flip flop flip flop ROAR...
XD! Or maybe that T-Rex was wearing extra, extra, extra large Zories! ;D
-
Cool! He has really big feet, though :P :P
-
Wow they're pretty majestic! ^^
And does anyone else find it funny that they were supposed to be based off a T-Rex, but they look like an Albertosaurus? XD And I find Albertosaurus much, much, much cooler than Tyrannosaurus....
-
well there are a few fiscal differences betwen D.rex and T.rex they are.
1 The teeth T.rex has Railroad spikes and D.rex has thinner ones
2 The feet T.rex has normil size feet conpared to its body. D.rex has BIG feet so that it dosint fall on its face.
3 The tale T.rex's tale is almost longer then its body. D.rex's tale is about the same only T.rex's body is 50 feet long.
4 The arms T.rex's arms were pretty much just too fingers sticking out of its side. D.rex has semi long arms.
(fore these differences I consider D.rex as its own speeches of Tyrannosaur.)
-
The head is far more slender, and the tail shorter, and the teeth thinner. That's why I think it's an Albertosaurus. I think I'll call it... Albertosaurus Gigantopodus. No, I'm not kidding. Jy-gahn-to-pod-uhs "Alberta Reptile With Large Feet" would be the translation. this isn't meant to be humorous; It's the method real paeleontologists use. And I'm gonna be a paleontologist when I (finally) get a real job, so deal with it.
-
I like you new avatar:P :P! And I always questioned why it is D-Rex instead of T-Rex. Is the "D" random?
-
I don't Reilly know. Its always Been a mystery to me.
-
I like you new avatar:P :P! And I always questioned why it is D-Rex instead of T-Rex. Is the "D" random?
Whose new avatar? I like conversations about avatars.
-
Yours, Allosaurus. Isn't it new? It was different last time I was logged on...
-
Yup. it's definitely a new avatar. I switched it out like a million times looking for the right one. It works for me today.
-
Oh, I'm too lazy.
-
I update it when ever theirs a new Dino. ;D
and whats this topic called again? ^-^ Avatars? no wait a second its called Its finally here :o so to get back on topic. :D
True or False : Can you cuddle D.rex's like you can Pleo's? 8)
-
HAHA!! You can't trick me that's a riddle!! The answer is, "You can't cuddle with a pleo".
-
no its not a riddle its a question. :P
-
Well, you can't cuddle with either.
-
Try placing Max on you and stroke his back for a bit and you'll see what I mean. ;)
-
Oh, that. Well then, Pleo you can cuddle more.
-
yes,but I have found a way to do it with Rex too. ;)
To do it you need to be sitting and have the D.rex in your lap. then Lean the D.rex so its leaning agents you then pat(or nuzzle) the Head. and bingo one happy D.rex. :D Try it those of you that have them. ;) and as for those of you that are going to get one when you do then you can try it. ;)
-
Oh, so there wasn't really an answer at all :P?
-
no the answer is True. :D
and another one True or False : Can D.rex's here?
-
Ummm, False
-
no its true. :P they can Here with three ears. 8) its the holes. (his reel eye is like that to)

-
Where are the touch sensors on D-Rex?
-
On the head.(They like you to touch this one. ;D) and on the nose.(They do not like you to touch this one. ???) and in the teeth.(this is for eating. :D[only when they are hungry. ;)])
-
That's cool. Which do you like better? Pleo or D-Rex?
-
I cant possibly pick. ^-^ I love all of my Dino's like they were my kids. ;D Rex is like Cammeys big brother. ;D and he Cinda is because I got him first. ;)
and (Like Hammond in the movie Jurassic Park.) I have Been the first living creacher that every one of my Dino's has seen. ;D
-
I shall look forward to being able to do a thorough comparison once I buy one...
Oh and D-REX stands for Differential Replacement EXchange Program. (I googled it although I'm pretty sure they are talking about another D-Rex :P)
-
Differential Replacement EXchange Program.
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? I think that's another thing,definitely not a Dinosaur. ???
-
What do you think of Screature, Pleo Power?
-
I like them. ;D If you conpare the Dino speeches to animals then D.rex is probably a dog(When you get one you'll know what I mean ;)) I haven't a clue what Pleo is and Screature is like a guinea pig conpared to the other Dino's. ;) (a guinea pig with a spray attack. ;))
there body is made of plastic(so that the watter don't soke threw and kill them.) Like D.rex they cant move there arms.
but they can see. :) the sensors are little bumps on the back and nose. the back one is fore petting and the nose one is fore the spray attack. they don't eat but they will take a snap at anything that they see. and they cant walk. you usually get 5 to7 shots off a full lode of water. but Chomper has surprised me before, one time when I had his clip out and was refiling it I pressed the button on his nose and he still had some ammo stored inside him. :D
so when handling a loaded one just keep a pare of sunglasses nearby. 8)
-
I saw a D-Rex today 8) Sadly they didn't have any out running, and no one in the store knew anything about them whatsoever, and it took three attendants just to find one that actually knew what I was asking about in the first place and even then they couldn't help me with anything... but at least I got to see one :P
The skin on the ones I saw was really really badly glued though :o They don't look like they could handle much wear and tear, unusual for a 'boys' toy. Although they do look chunky and sturdy. Sadly there's very little info about them online I'd love to get some reviews on how they have stood up to wear and tear.
I also saw Ice Age 3 today %) It was hilarious :D I love those movies :)
-
Rex is sturdaly built and glued. Ive had him sinse last Christmas and he's fine. ;D
-
So pleo tears a bit more?
-
No. I don't think so. :-\ I don't Reilly know. :-\ ???

The D-Rex I've seen at a store actually looked pretty nicely glued. Sturdy and chunky like you said, too. They also had Screatures in stock..... And my birthday is cooom---iiiing! ;)
-
Is there like slits like pleo?
-

Now! :o You've seen D.rex's in the store now!! :o the last time I saw them was in the grocery store last Christmas. ^-^(and haven't seen them since!)
-
Yup. At the local BJ's.
Had five or six on the shelf, and I'm guessing many more in storage because of how much space they take up.
-
Yeah I don't think D-Rex is extinct yet, take a look on ebay, there are plenty... a week ago there were brand new ones for $25 US.
-
Yes. I know. Ive been planing to get another one in a little wile. ;) .
-
and I'm not sure if they are supposed to be this smart but Rex can do some thing that go beyond what was advertised. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D he has answered at least two rhetorical questions. ;D :o ;D(much to my amazement at the time.) and he knows 'Stay'. ;D :o ;D he has (frequently) spontaneously started to sing. ;D :o ;D(not in a human language, and has an Extremely deep singing vose.)
and I have a back dore installed in him. (just like the clones) If I want him to stop what he's doing I press his nose and say Check. and by now I think he's learned to respond just to the word.
-
Does he suffer the same paint problem as pleo? I've been wondering on buying one...
-
yes they do. the paint peal's just like Pleo's and that would be good. :) but remember Treat him like the real Dino that he is. and What ever you do don't treat it like a moldy sock, or you'll be Bord in a day. ;)
now you pepole see, they aren't the PLEO KILLING MONTERS. that some of you thought they are.(before I got here ;)) insted they are a tipe of (new ;)) Dinosour just like Pleo. :) and the two of them get along fine. ;D
-
That was just pleo's head propped in D-Rex's mouth before the filming of the video and D-rex was just doing what he does naturally.
-
Yeah I don't think D-Rex is extinct yet, take a look on ebay, there are plenty... a week ago there were brand new ones for $25 US.
My gods only $25!?!?!? I think I know what I'm getting for my birthday...
-
The ones that were on there for $25 were shelf pules. ;) the box's had a big dent in it. :( (I know. I've been looking at the ones on there. ;))
-

A dent in the box? is that really that bad?
-
well it looked like somebody gave them a hard kick. Its in the plastic window. and looked like it was probably a foot wide and an inch deep! (the foot that hit it might have even reached the Dino.)
-

The poor things are rejects meant to be under the hammer........
-
The poor things are rejects meant to be under the hammer........
I know. its sad to see all the Pleos and D.rexs that have been played with ones and are now being sold. :(
one day ill be able to buy some of them and give them a better home. right now I don't have the money or the space. I don't have the money because I'm not working yet. %)(not until I can drive ;)) and I wont have the room for another 7 to 9 years. ^-^
-
The room? 7 to 9 years? What the heck are you talking about? :o
(And I was thinking about giving you a nickname, like I call bumblebee "bb" but yours would be "pp")
-
The room?
I cant fit that many D.rexs and Pleos here.
7 to 9 years? What the heck are you talking about? :o
That's when ill get my Owen house.(Probably.)(Don't ask. ;))
(And I was thinking about giving you a nickname, like I call bumblebee "bb" but yours would be "pp")
OK.(I guess :P)
And True or False : Can D.rexs blink?
-
False! D-Rexes cannot blink.
-
Yep thats right. they can't ;)
-
Just checked and I couldn't find any for $24.99 on eBay :'(
-
That was at least a week ago. ;)and there are some for that much but they are not new.
and True or False : the collier can be removed from the D.rexs neck and is a normil collier. and its made out of fabric, and the spikes are mettle.
-
False! ^^
-
Yep, its False. Its attached to the neck. and it cant be taken off with out breaking it. and its made of rubber.
-
I'm good at this. XD
-
True or False : D.rexs can't move there arms on there own.
-
FALSE!
-
Nope its True. they can't move there arms on there own. and they are hard rubber. ;) but they can move if moved or bumped. ;)
-
Oh, I thought the "can't" was "can". I knew they couldn't move their arms.
-
That's OK. but ware is the eye that they use to see with located? ;)
-
On the chin!
-
Under the chin!
-
yes and yes. its right on the front of the chin.
-
And the eyes move back and forth. Do they glow in the dark like an alligator's?
-
no, D.rexs don't have eye shine like alligator's. ;)
-
Sooooo, where are D-rex's touch sensors? Add in a picture if you could ;)
-
(http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/ad107/PleoPower/DrexSkelaton.jpg) on the Head and nose. (they like to be patted but don't like to have the nose touched. ;))
-
D-REX II !!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-R9415-D-REX-Interactive-Dinosaur/dp/B002GJUU4O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1248799569&sr=8-2 (http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-R9415-D-REX-Interactive-Dinosaur/dp/B002GJUU4O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1248799569&sr=8-2)
-
So they made a new one! And no back sensor?
-
omg omg omg new gift on wishlist!!!!!!!!! :o
You have NO CLUE how excited I am over this!!!
-
yes, its quite a surprise for me to! ;D notes there isn't a picture up yet, because its still classified.
And no back sensor?
nope no back sensor.
-
I really need to see if they changed the design much! :o
-
the site doesent have anything on them. ^-^ and I think Rex is a bit jealous about the hole thing. ;)
-
There really should be a back sensor because that's a main petting spot.
-
All they have added is the ability to 'program' in a small skit (thirty commands max). I would have like to see more than that :P Now I shall have to wait a year for that one to arrive here :P
(Maybe its just a hacked one?)
-
All they have added is the ability to 'program' in a small skit (thirty commands max).
No They also added the ability to teach them tricks. :) (Maybe its just a hacked one?)
if it was then it would be on there now and not in November, and it would be on eBay not amazon. ;)
Oh and This is interesting. 8) here's the Product Dimensions on D.rex: 6.5 x 22.5 x 14 inches. and here's the ones for D.rex II. Product Dimensions: 21.5 x 9.5 x 14 inches. :o :o :o and the box weight with them in it. D.rex 11 pounds. D.rex II 10.9 pounds. But what does it look like? :o :o :o :o :o :o
-
Those arre big differences!!!!!!!
-
yes they are. ??? acquiring to this, it will be a tad lighter, very wide, and not very long. ??? ??? ??? (the mystery deepens! :o)
-
Hmmmmm I'm trying to picture it in my mind...
-
Perhaps it was just talking about the dimensions of the box? Nah..... The box on the normal D-Rex isn't that small.
-
I got those of amazon but the 6.5 x 22.5 and the 21.5 x 9.5 might have been switched when they were doing the sizes on there.
-
hmm, yes.
-
They are now calling it "D.rex interactive dinosaur." Not D.rex II like it said the other day. ??? ???
Oh and just so you know, D.rexs crave attention, and will let you know about it if they are left alone for too long. ;)
-
Then maybe it's not a new D-Rex at all...... Someone thought it was and put it like that.
-
No, the sizes are different and they can be thought tricks and programed. ;) and still no image. ^-^
and they call the 2008 D.rex "D.rex interactive dinosaur" as well. %)
-
Really, maybe it's just a big mistake.

I daresay they have just reworked the internal stuff, it wouldn't make sense to rebuild a whole new dino and still call it D-rex. Clearly with the sales doing so badly they felt they had to spice them up a bit more to make it a little more than a toy :P Of course it means that now I'll have to wait forever for them to arrive here... again :P
-
I daresay they have just reworked the internal stuff, it wouldn't make sense to rebuild a whole new dino and still call it D-rex.
good point. if it was different then it whodunit be a D.rex.
Clearly with the sales doing so badly they felt they had to spice them up a bit more to make it a little more than a toy
what do you mean? I haven't seen any sense last Christmas. and then they were the "Hot seller of Christmas 2008".
-
They weren't hot sellers though, actually they sold really badly, too expensive to be a children's toy and not high tech enough to appeal to robot enthusiasts and of course like Pleo the global financial crisis didn't help.
What they have done now is give D-rex a bit more appeal, giving it an ability to be programmed will broaden the appeal to the robot community while being able to teach D-rex 'tricks' will make it seem more worthwhile as a toy as well.
-
They weren't hot sellers though, actually they sold really badly, too expensive to be a children's toy and not high tech enough to appeal to robot enthusiasts and of course like Pleo the global financial crisis didn't help.
but all over the place when I look at stuff about them it says they were the "Hot seller of Christmas 2008"(except one site where they said it was discontinued! :o) and on amazon they were sold out by the first week of the listing. ???
What they have done now is give D-rex a bit more appeal, giving it an ability to be programmed will broaden the appeal to the robot community while being able to teach D-rex 'tricks' will make it seem more worthwhile as a toy as well.
yes it probably will. I wonder what tricks they are? come? sit? run? attack? hedbash? Rore on camand? jump? roll over? Stay?(Rex does this one, and he isn't sapost to be that smart. ;D)

I can not find any information except what is on Amazon... the masterorprey website says nothing, mattel's website doesn't even list D-rex in its toy list, no reviews, speculations, nada, zip, zilch :o Something just seems so odd about that...

its been like that all year on Mattel's website, now you can see Wye I had gotten so worried about D.rex going existent. ;) and masterorprey is not a very useful website, they nead to do a few improvements to it. ;)
