DHS, or Droopy Head Syndrome is a problem related to the neck cables and affects many pleos. Some pleos end up being returned, and others continue on wearing braces or bandages to help cope with the problem, and still other lie neglected or unused because of this problem . . . So this is a day to remember our damaged friends, to give them support, hope, and encouragement, to let them know they are still loved, and to provide resources to help other pleos who may be suffering from neck problems.
Please feel free to post your stories, pictures, and thoughts as we remember our injured friends.

I feel I should honour poor Trooper, who came to me with a broken neck cable and had to suffer hours and hours of my fumblings and being taken apart/put back together so very many times that his head must have been .... erm .... spinning. :moose:

Trooper, now I know his name, I saw this long time ago when you first posted it and always loved watching this little guy, he has such great spirit. Poor little guy, he does have spirit. I love how he laughs and makes light of the situation neck or no neck. He also is in a great stance, as you have him sitting in such a postion that his front legs actualy lift his head and neck a bit which he seems to like! P:D
Is Trooper still around or have you taken him apart? RWM :cat-hug:

Well, I suppose I could include poor Bleu although her neck isn't completely broken. I know for sure she has a broken bottom neck cable. She can't lower her head to her paws when she tries to sleep. She also has a jammd cable that keeps her head turned slightly to the left. Very rarely does she move her head to the right although when I feel the cable on that side, it still has tention in it. *Scratches head* I don't know what's going on in there. I think her top cable might be slightly obstructed too, but it sort of gives her a proud look. She holds her head higher than the other pleos when in a resting position so that it's slightly tilted to the left. Poor girl! She totally misses communication with Ugobe if he is on her right side.

Talon, it just adds to Ms. Bleus mystique and her special qualities... :-* P8) I think the original Ugobes are so prone to DHS, they are lucky if they can make it this far without having a neck problem! RWM :cat-hug:

I'd like to add Frankie to the list. He came to me as a pleo with a neck issue - he had a very large bulge in his neck and DHS was feared.
Turns out for him that when I opened up for surgery the cables were all ok it was just his vertebrae that were broken. Luckily I fixed him :) So not really DHS but it was a neck disorder that had stopped him from being used by his previous owners.

Hi Kat ! I just love the colors you used to repaint Frankie , he is very handsome :-* may I ask witch kind of paint you used ?

I made up a combination of paint which was about 70% monster makers latex mask paint and about 30% acrylic water based paint. IMR has had similar good results using a latex paint/ acrylic ink mix.

Thank you I will certainly give it a try when the paint on my ugobe gets really terrible , for new he still looks great ! I wish I could say the same for my new RB Lenny :o his paint starts to peel allready :'(

I used a bit more acrylic, and less latex, but generally a mix of the two works very well. The inks keep the paint nice and thin.

Fancy, love the photos of Peeky , I love the visiting pictures, very sweet! I had forgotten about those visits... ;D I have so many pleos that have DNS, so will have to find the right photo for all my Pleos afflicted.. will take a couple of days when I am not so busy with a sick cat... but I will post them. I am hoping to soon remedy DNS in Nova, my very first Pleo, waiting for the surgical instrument to arrive.. ( the mad scientist...LOL) RWM :cat-hug: and the Pleo township of the Redwoods P:)
