Post by: eric on May 19, 2009, 04:23:01 PM
My pleo has DNS  (Droopy Head Syndrome)

Has anyone successfully fix their pleos neck?

Someone did post instructions on how to do it on the Pleo world forums, I'm not sure if anyone here still has that info though :o Try googling it perhaps?

It was a surgeon somewhere in the EU.  He had detailed instructions and pictures.  I wish we could find it!

well i became Dr eric recently and opened up pleo (still have to reseal the skin with locate glue)

Outcome was the very small thin wire that moves my pleo's neck up and down broke iv opened the motor box and even tried to mend the wires back no luck!  what i did to fix the dns was tie the wire around a screw! my pleo now can move his head left to right but not up and down!

WARNING IF YOU TRY THIS DONT CUT DEEP INTO PLEO,
CUT INTO HIM WITH THE BLADE AIMING LEFT (TOWARDS THE HEAD) THEIR IS A SMALL OVERLAP WHERE THE GLUE RESTS TO STICK THE BODY TO THE HEAD.

I've been contemplating for awhile now a way to mend the cables without completely replacing them.

Out of curiosity where was the break in the cable on your Pleo?

I'm guessing most breaks occur on the top near the base of the neck (where the most stress is. but thats just a guess. the Pleo I dissected didn't have a broken neck.

A full replacement requires some pretty invasive surgery.
Here is a pic of the neck assembly

Heres the up-down tail assembly.. um.. disassembled

not sure about eric and ScribbleMonkey but I'm not.(althow I think I might have accidentally acquired the unofficial title of Pleo vet, because I've helped so many troubled Pleos. ;))

yes , the wire broke where it bends at the top.

just snapped it seems,  if you want the new neck piece as you have opened up more of the head/neck than i did
contact Jetta for parts. They maybe able to help you
