Title: hi I am new
Post by: cchimp123 on February 06, 2014, 09:23:58 AM
I have just brought my first pleo. It is a second hand ugobe pleo that I got from eBay that has only been used a few times. I am new to the world of pleos can anyone help give me some tips on what to do and expect? Thank you

Hi, cchimp123 and welcome to the forums! More than likely your companion is going to be an adult when it arrives. If it's coming with the original green Ugobe battery you might want to look into purchasing a white UCube egg battery and charger. You can find them here in the stores tab on the forum. The green batteries are so old now they rarely hold much of a charge. You can get almost two hours of playtime out of the white egg batteries.
As far as SD cards go, two gig or smaller seems to work best. anything higher than that and your pleo might not run a bigger card. Let us know when your companion arrives and if we can be of more help.

The pleo that I am getting has only been switched on twice as it was brought for an autistic boy but he was scared of it so it just got packed away in his box until now. I have a 2gb sd card around here somewhere so I will hunt that down. Thank you for the welcome it is greatly appreciated. Will I need to update the pleo and if so how do I do that? Thank you for the help.

The smaller the SD card the better.  Basically anything NOT an SDHC should work.  The files pleo uses are all only a few MB at the biggest, so even a very old card works fine.

As for updating your pleo I would wait and see what it is like when you get it.  There are a few different versions of the operating system out there for pleo and you will need to work out which one your guy is running before you can update.  Updating is a personal preference rather than a necessity.  Many people prefer the older OS's to the newer one.  The newest one I think is 2.0 and has a bunch of tricks that you can get pleo to do by touching different combinations of his touch sensors in sequence.  I quite like this one but others don't as it has a lengthy teenage stage where the pleo will make random inappropriate sounds that don't necessarily match his movements, he is less sensitive to touching and will walk backward a lot.  this is a phase however and does go away after about 8 battery cycles at which time the pleo goes back to his normal old self :)

So my advice is run him for a few weeks and see how you like him then you can determine which system he is running - you can tell by the chin rub song he sings - and decide from there if you want / need to update him.

Thank you everyone. I will post pics when my pleo arrives. Do ugobe pleo come with predetermined genders? If not then it will be female and named clover as clovers are lucky and I was extremely lucky to get her. The pleo is being posted today and should be here for saturday or monday but I think that the wait is going to kill me. I am normaly patient but this is torture! I am addictedto pleo already and mine hasn't even got here yet!

So pleo got delivered. I can see why the are so addictive!  They are just adorable! I want another one already! I am thinking of saving up for a pleo rb. Can pleo rb and ugobe pleos interact together? Here is a pic of clover. ( Sorry about the terrible lighting )

My pleo has now been renamed by my dad. His name is dino (dee-no) after the pet dinosaur in the flintstones.

Well that's solves it then, you are just going to have to buy another to call Clover ;)

Pleo and Pleo RB don't really interact, Pleo RB tries to talk to them, but Pleo cannot provide the correct response to trigger the little chatting skit. All the same it's a lot of fun to compare the two.
