Title: Can Pleo hurt himself?
Post by: Williamus on December 28, 2013, 09:12:11 AM
Hi everyone,

These are the first days of my (still unnamed) green female Pleo rb. She is still a hatchling and sleeps all the time.

Sometimes when she moves her head down and then turns it left or right, the head rubs against the floor and it looks like this can twist the head or force the motors. Also, when she lies down and then gets up (to go back to the standard position for example), it looks like the friction of the legs against the floor forces on the servos.
So I was wondering if a Pleo can damage itself.

Thanks!

W.

Yes they can. Sometimes they push with their head against something and you'll hear the gears popping. This could result in a broken neck...

Luckily they have safeties, but you should definitely intervene when they do something potentially harmful.

Aww, sounds bad. I though I could leave a Pleo unattended while I am home. But it looks like there is always a need for supervision. :-/

They do grow out of most of the issues, however leaving unattended is risky, Pleo's are apt to wander into tight spots which may result in a stuck neck.

Treat them like small children :)

I hope you enjoy your new Pleo
