Title: Old showcase PLEO came in to our house, some questions
Post by: Kurjuutus on December 24, 2013, 04:39:00 AM
First of all, I'm an ITC-assembler by education, hence I know a little bit about electronics and coding. Not enough but eager to learn everyday ;D
1. It has no battery, DIY instructions anywhere? 2. It is original PLEO, and showcase one, any suggestions what to add for it, upgrades to FW somewhere? Install SD card and add something? My kids already love it even though it's nailed to the case by its back feet :) 3. Any other suggestions / advices / ideas?
Merry Xmas from Finland! 8)

Can you take a picture of your pleo?I'd love to see it, especially since it's it a special version of the Ugobe pleo :) Does your pleo have the same battery compartment as the normal Ugobe Pleos? If it does you can just get any battery that's made for the Ugobe pleo

How does it get power? Is it through the rear legs?If it is, I'm not sure if your pleo actually has the power supply connected to the battery compartment, you can try putting a battery pack into it, if it really doesn't have the power supply connected to the battery compartment, you can always try finding the power supply wires and solder them to the battery compartment

Yes thru rear legs. Problem is that I don't have battery.
I think I'll figure something out for power :)
Now if someone could help me with software side still, and maybe good DIY batterykit plans :)

The pleo you have might be one of the display models that Ugobe made to put in stores to help promote pleo. It ran a special version of the OS specifically for the display. It did not come with a battery because it was supposed to be inside the case. The version of the OS was designed so that the pleo would not walk, just move it's head and tail. I know here in the US, when one of the stores that carried pleo, The Sharper Image, went out of business, they sold off all the display models cheap.

Thanks MariaOcean, that helped me alot :)
Mweed, yes it is a display model. It had a plastic case around it but I took it off as first thing :rudolph: What I think it is the same Pleo as marketed one but just has stripped software. Is LifeOS upgrade enough to make it walk etc? Case has a button to wake it up. Haven't had time yet to check more specifically how it works atm.
We found it in a flea market ;D
Thanks for help!

LifeOS upgrade should do the trick. Problems may be with needing battery and how wire thruogh the foot affects walking.
