Alas I can't seem to find a video of it actually in motion :(

The robot dog 'Teksta' also looks interesting.

Very cool, what little girl does not like or didn't dream of having her own pony or horse! I know I had a Wonder Rocking horse and loved it. STill wish I had it so I could pass on those memories. Too bad there is no video of this in action, perhaps before Christmas there will be! ;) RWM :cat-hug:

Uhm, dog looks cheap amd too noisy >:(

"Hansa animals with structural metal frames are generally poseable, as their heads can be turned, and arms, wings, and legs raised, to simulate movement"
http://www.amazon.com/Hansa-Prancing-Clydesdale-Ride-Animal/dp/B0021DFHCU
It's not a robot, I think. Hansa does make more of these products and have already made earlier horses. But apart from that fact, it's still cool. ;D

Aww dang, I wanted to see something that massive actually move even vaguely like a real horse.
All they have to do is combine it with the butterscotch pony and they'd have a winner :P
Also begs the question of why it's in an article about robots...

More animatronic than robotic, really, but gorgeous nonetheless! :)

*Wistful sigh* I've been dreaming of a robotic horse big enough to ride on since I was a little kid. I would've been content if it just walked around without an ounce of AI in its body.

Even if it doesn't move at all, as it appears, I would have loved that horse as a little girl. Okay, I admit it - I'd still love one I could sit on and 'ride' now. ;) In fact, one of the stories I've been writing on and off this year has robotic horses that were initially just poseable models and became actually rideable with some modifications. Wishful thinking eh!
Unfortunately every $1K+ rideable horse I buy is several Pleos I can't, not to mention a whole lot of dinners, so I think I'll have to wait to fulfill my horse-mad fantasies until I'm much richer and can buy a real horse... :P

I've seen the little Tekno Pony. I almost bought one but I was worried I'd get tired of it too fast. I guess I'm a bit spoiled from owning pleo and aibo.

I was just saying the other day on the Aibo forums that my dream robot would be a rideable horse! I think everyone thought I was nuts!
I really want this. It is not a robot but I've just been on the company's website and they make the most beautiful, realistic animals I have ever seen. The unicorn and Black Beauty horses are stunning.
I have the original Teksta Kitten.
Got her for Christmas 2001, still play with her. Very basic technology these days but she was a state of the art toy when first bought. My favourite feature is the board games she can play with you. She is nowhere near Pleo or Aibo level in terms of AI of course but she is fun and was a good friend to me when I was younger. I will look into the new dogs when they come out, AI for sure will not be impressive but they look like a fun toy.
As for the robot fish, very impressive! I have one and I recommend it. It comes in it's own aquarium but will swim anywhere, the second it detects water it comes alive and starts to swim. Very realistic motion, I have a real goldfish to compare with and the robot mimics the live animal very well. It has obstacle detection so will not bump into any ornament you put in it's tank or the walls of the aquarium itself. $24 from Target and you get a fish, tank, and accessories. Great price for a fun robot! :)

What is the robot fish called and do you have any videos of any advertisements for it. I'm curious what it looks like.

They are simply called "RoboFish" and are made by a company called Zuru.
I have not filmed my fish yet but the company's website has some promotional clips: http://www.zururobofish.com/#/home
You can buy an individual fish for $10 (batteries included!) or a whole aquarium set up with fish, ornaments, and tank for not much extra. I paid $24 for my set.
The instructions say if you have more than one fish they will school together like real fish do and show different personalities depending on what species you have. I only have the one clown fish at the moment so I've been unable to test this. You can get ones that light up or glow in the dark, my clown fish is semi transparent so you can see it's robotic parts working as it swims. In deep water it will dive down and after a while come back up and put it's nose out of water like it is coming up for air.
I really like this robot!

I love them! We have a little pond out the back of our house but sadly no fish since the last inhabitant passed away last year. We may be moving soon so I don't want to buy a biological pet I will have to abandon. Having some robotic fish to play around in there would be fun, and much easier to transport to a distant new home!
It's funny; as a kid I was always fascinated by water and fish, and the one toy I would have loved to have is one of those little fish tanks made for very small children as a relaxing bedroom ornament, with cheerful little plastic fish that 'swim' around. This version of the same sort of toy is even cooler! :D
-
I bought a couple of those for the kids fish tank at school. They were good fun, I certainly didn't see any schooling behaviour but maybe that's because Nemo was too busy trying to get away from Bruce :P
-
Wonder if my cats would go
"fishing " for them. LOL, I don[t think my turtles would care for them, but perhaps I could put one or two in the tub for laughs... Oh, and Icarus, I have the same Techno kitten, love it, Also got the Robot mouse with cheese at the same time just for fun. Mouse is very cute with his big ears! RWM :cat-hug:

I just happened to be browsing the toy section at the supermarket today (while boyfriend was looking at some other boring thing), and I realised they had a whole bunch of the Robofish! So of course I came home with the clownfish and I've been having fun this evening confusing him by putting him in whatever I can find that holds water, like in this video: https://vimeo.com/73684714. Do any of you who have bought some of these before know how long the batteries last? More to the point, if I wanted to run two or three of them all day would I be setting myself up for a fortune in batteries?
Anyway, for some strange reason I feel motivated to fill up our big spa bath tomorrow and give it a good cleaning out... ;)
-
I would love to add a robofish to my 65 gallon fish tank. I wonder what my fish would think of i?. I think the Clown Loaches would have a lot of fun with one of these. :)
I would have gone crazy to have a horse to sit on as a child. Would love to see it in action (positioned in different poses) :)
