My newest addition to the family. Seymour and his friends are all having dinner. The shiny thing dangling from the middle plant, is a live fly. In one of Seymour's tubes is a fly. Another one has an ant or nat. Pretty Cool! 8)

The middle plant looks like a species of Drosera. Is it? I can't make it out in the photo.

wow that is pretty cool, i once had a venus fly trap called charlie, though he ate a fly too big for him and he rotted :(

49er is the one to ask, degers! I'm a novice at the names right now. Everybody seems to have a meal and doing well. I will have to go check Seymour and friends out today. Little warm outside! BBQ weather! ;)

Yes the small plants are Drosera, commonly called Sundews. (D. dichotoma I believe.) There are about seven of them that are volunteers with Seymour and are the "friends." Seymour himself is a Purple Pitcher Plant, (Sarracenia purpurea.)

I only
ask because I made a big poster on carniverous plants last year with a few people, and I did a section on Drosera

Seymour has grown another tube (mouth) I guess he is getting plenty to eat ;D
It was watering night and when I checked on Seymour and friends, Seymour had a snail on him <:( 49er, who was going to eat who ? ???
-
In the battle of carnivores, usually the most vicious one wins. So the war will probably go to the snail. Check your local nursery and see if they carry some copper sheets or if they know who has some. Take the sheet and wrap around the base of Seymour. Snails won't try to go up the copper. It gives them a mild shock.

A plant that eats flies and shocks snails :o I so have to get some when I move :)

I wonder if a beer moat would work too ??? Snails seem to be attracked to beer and end up goners.
Did use pellets around Seymours bowl, too!

I can just see you buying a six pack of beer at the store. "This? No, it's not for me, it's for my meat eating plant!" ;D

Makes one wonder how many other robotics forums out there are you going to see posts about people buying beer for their carnivorous plants . . . %)
Only here . . . 8)

Just here, Mweed! ;)
