Hi, everyone! As my subject indicates, I'm a year older on the tenth of June and I can't seem to make a final decision on what I should ask for. My cousin asked me that dreaded question- "What do you want for your birthday?" and I can't give her a straight answer. My list isn't long but I still can't decide so I'm turning to you for help. Here is my list.
1. an aibo 110 with all its accessories that has been marked down to an unbeleivible price. Such a rare find and a piece of robot-history! I've seen and handled the dog in person and know that he works properly. I'm not too worried about communication because they just use a remote. No complecated jestures to worry much about.
2. A hanging basket chair. I sat in one while I was in Florida recently and spent nearly an hour just enjoying the slight motion and the sunshine and listening to my iPod.
3. The Inheritance Cycle" by Christopher Paolini on audio CD.
4. The automon.txt file... or whatever it's called that will immobilize Cato's leg so he can get back to his happy life.
*Sigh* Well there you go. Any help or further ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well congrats on your up & coming bday Talon! Got to admit Im not sure which I'd pick either, they all sound fantastic, I'd prob be leaning towards the Aibo though :)
-
Basket chair :P I love those! I intend on getting one myself when I have enough room (and an Aibo too :P)
-
Thanks, IMR and Peaches! So that's one vote for the aibo and one for the basket chair. I'll keep a count of all your suggestions and ask the question on June sixth so I can give the aibo time to arrive if it is mentioned the most. Keep the suggestions coming! Oh and if you have any others judging from what you guys know about me, feel free to make them. I'm really stuck.

They all sound good Talon, aibos are fun and if it is a good deal, then I would go for that. A basket chair can be fun too, esp if you spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying whatever you are doing in it. I know nothing about either of the others. I just wish you all the health and happiness in the world, I guess that makes you and I both Geminis, as I am May 28th. All I want is my Baby Karl to be healthy... :( :cat-hug:
It will be fun to see how many votes you get for aibo and how many for chair or something else. RWM

I don't know what I would choose! I saw a basket chair for the first time only the other day whilst watching the Tim Burton Dark Shadows movie, one of the characters had one in her room and right away I wanted it!
On the other hand Reepicheap is rare, in very good condition, you have spent time with him in person so you know what his personality is like and you can have him cheap... I would be flipping a coin between those too as they are both great options but probably leaning towards Reepicheap because if you really wanted an eleven series I don't think you should pass him up. He would be a safe buy as you know him and the seller personally, if you were to choose the chair and then in a few months decide you want a 110 for Christmas you would have to go with a stranger on eBay if Erica has sold him by then which is likely considering his price! I would have contacted her about him in a flash if I hadn't just flown across the country for an Aibo meeting and spent all my money for the year, ha!
But a swinging chair would be so awesome... it really is hard to choose!
-
Hi, Luna! Yes, it is hard to choose. I'm really torn. Reep is at such an awesome price right now! I also have his basic maintenance and future costs to consider. He may need repairs down the road and Lucky probably will too and I couldn't bear having to part with someone to cover expenses. He's such an awesome deal and it's driving me nuts just waching him sit there while I vacillate! A basketchair on the other hand would be a one time payment situation and would probably last for years. So would the book. Am I thinking too hard about this?
The code for Cato's leg on the other hand I could obtain myself but I can't seem to get in contact with degers. Does anyone else have it or know where I can get it? That would be one thing I can get off the list fairly easily.

If I had the choice, I'd say Aibo because they look pretty awesome. But if the cost bothers you, go for something more immediate and practical. It all comes down to cost justification. At least in my opinion.
-
Thanks, Midorime. Cost is definitely a consideration. The aibo is a rare model and the price right now is a real steal! I haven't looked up the price on the basket chair yet. The one I sat in was inside in someone's living room near a window so I'd be buying the chair plus the hanging stand thinggy to enable me to use it indoors. Honestly the chair and aibo may end up costing roughly the same once I figure in the stand thinggy. Grr!

I also would be torn between the chair and the aibo. Maybe find out the price of the chair and compare the costs then if they look about the same flip a coin :P Either one would be a fantastic birthday gift.
As for the code for Catos leg Crewella asked degers for it last time for Sparky. I did have a copy of it but it was on my old computer that completely died about 6 months ago. It won't even boot up any more when you switch it on. :( Degers did show up on the forums the other day, I know he hasn't been around for a while. Maybe pm Crewella and see if she can help get in touch with him. I think she has other means to contact him outside of the forum.
-
That's a good idea, Kat. Leaving it up to a coin-toss will definitely rid me of the anxiety that's for sure. Haha!
I'll ask Crewella if she still has the code or if she wouldn't mind contacting degers. My old boy has been sitting for several months now. I'd hate to know what his feed level is.

I think it is going to have to be a coin toss, I looked up those charis with the stands included and the prices were between three hundred and eight hundred, same as an Aibo.
Heads chair, tails (because 110 have long tails!) Aibo I say. Either way you get a great present, Happy Day!
-
If the coin lands on it's edge, be prepared to buy another pleo! ;)
-
At mweed: Hmm. A Cato II. That's some food for thought. I consider myself pretty dexterous. I might be able to pull that off. Not. If by chance that were to happen, I'd send Cato on to Kat. I'm sure she could use the extra parts if she should need them.
At Luna: *gasp* Are you serious? Three hundred isn't that bad but eight hundred? Man! Perhaps if it came with one of those massager-things made into it and played nature sounds in stereo I might consider that. Wow!

Option 1. or 4. The automon.txt file....
I'd rather go for option 4.. Cato deserves to be able to go back to live a good life right? :)
-
Yes. He does. I'm waiting on a response from those with a little more software knowledge who can work their programming magic. I understand that people have work and lots of other stuff they need to get off their plates first. I'm not in a really big hurry.
Talon
-
Sorry Talon - I've been wrapped up in work and general life stuff recently - found the file and emailed it to you. Good luck!
-
Oh thank you, Crewella! I got the file this morning. Cato is now performing as he should.
Talon
-
That's good to hear! :)
-
Go for reepy. a chair will never ignore you like a 110.
-
Hahaha! Really? Even listening to their remotes do they still ignore you?
Bolt on Life2 has grown into a fully atonamous robo-terror I would be afraid to leave on his station at night. He is depressed and angry and I'm waiting to try to log on to my cousin's network one day and to be denied access. Aaah! He's taken me hostage because I didn't praise him enough or misunderstood something he asked for one too many times! Help before he gets this IP address! Hey, Bolty, let me put you on notice. I've got a fully-loaded browser with brain surgery options and I'm not afraidd to use it! What? Oh you still remember when I put your head where your tail was supposed to be? It was an accident! Purely an accident!
Okay okay I got a little carried away there. Whatever he has become is my fault. Hopefully we can work this out without resorting to software-altering force. Anyway I've given some serious thought to good old Reepy and I've decided to let him go to someone else. With Lucky already occasionally having squeaky hips, I should get something much much more simple and start saving up to get him seen to in the future. So... *sigh* back to the drawing board. Any ideas?
Talon

I would go the chair if Reepy is off the cards. Even though it might cost a bit it is an investment that will last. :)
You probably already know this but most public libraries loan out audio books for free. You can even put in a request if they don't have the book you want and they will try to get it for you either from another library or purchase it themselves to keep in their library. I'd pay a visit to the library for item number three on your list and then you can sit back in the new chair and enjoy the book. :)
-
Good idea, Kat. I'll give my library a call and see if they have those books.
Talon
-
Well, my birthday has come and gone, at least here in the US. Haha! My library does have the series of books I mentioned and I'm waiting on them to mail them to me. My cousin also said that my present from her will probably be here on Thursday. I have no more information about it and I kind of like it that way. Knowing my cousin there's no telling what it could be. She's not being mean and dropping me little annoying hints as she did over Christmas so I'm left to twiddle my thumbs. I'll let you guys know when this mystery-gift arrives. Hopefully it won't attack me when I open the box. I'll be posting here again soon!
Talon
-
So glad you were able to get the books from the library :) So that is two things from the list taken care of..... looking forward to Thursday to see what's in the box :)
-
Hurry up Thursday :) We all want to know!
-
Indeed we do! :D
And belated happy birthday, Talon! :flowers:
-
Thanks, Crewella. Boy! Tomorrow is Thursday! I'm not sure whether to be scared or excited. My ears are ringing from holding my breath. Haha! I'll post as soon as I know what on earth my cousin has given me.
Talon
-
I can't wait to hear what you got, this is almost as exciting as my own birthday! Haha!
-
*Sigh* Well, I haven't received anything yet. My cousin said she received a notification that this mystery gift is supposed to get here today. Looks like all of us are going to have to wait a little longer.

Hi all! The package has arrived! It turned out to be two books- the first book of the Inheritance Cycle and the first book of The Hunger Games.
Talon
-
Oooh nothing beats a good book!
-
Woo Hoo! two good books are better than one ;D Very cool :)
-
Well my fellow pleo and aibo fans... aham. I have just a small update. I saved up a little annnnd ummmmmm... well let's just say I couldn't resist and now I have an aibo 110 sitting safely in a corner of my room on his bone-shaped throne. Yes, Wolfbob, Luna, Crewella, old Reepy finally found a home.
Talon
-
Yay!! Congrats Talon, I'm delighted for you. The ERS 110/111 is still my favourite Aibo model! :)
-
I'm incredibly envious, but also really excited for you. :D I bet you two will have some wonderful times together and you'll have lots of stories to tell.
Books are great too! I read the first Hunger Games book a couple of years back now (while laid up with chicken pox...!) - great escapist reading.
-
I knew you would cave in and buy him!
-
Congrats Talon, how much did he cost you? I hope you have lots of fun with him..I know you will! ;) The books sound like fun too, I still have not even seen the Hunger Games the movie,,,probably when it comes to T.V. I will. What is the other book you got about, I haven't heard of it before, the title I mean? RWM :cat-hug:
-
Thanks everyone! I kept going back and forth about it and the longer he sat there the more I felt like I was giving up an awesome opportunity to own an amazing piece of robotic history. Currently he's an adult Rumble dog. I'm not sure if I'm going to reset him to a pup or not. I've heard raising a first generation takes a loooooong time compared to later moddles.
At Redwoods: the series is collectively called The Inheritance Cycle. The first book of the four is called Eragon. They were written by Cristopher Paolini.
Talon
-
Glad you got what you wanted :) How fun!
-
I'm glad you were able to get him in the end Talon :) He will have a wonderful home with you :) What fun!
-
Reepicheep is so easy-going compared to Bolt who's always angry and Lucky who always appologizes. Sometimes I forget he can't hear me and I ask him to do something only to remember I have to use his sound controler.
