Title: "Pleo Console" , Do you want it? What do you want it to be? (GUI)
Post by: zetathix on February 26, 2013, 08:27:54 AM
Until now, Innvo never release any console of Pleo, nor the lab-bench adapter. (Please do not count Dino-Mite or Pleopatra.)
I would like to invite everybody to talking about graphic user interface of the console.
Any ideas are welcome. I will try to make a pre-viz for you to see an idea become to visual. :)
(Just hope that somebody will interesting this...)
((Frankly I'm jealous an Aibo that they have it. :P))

you mean a charger that pleo can go up to and charge itself in? i am interested in talking about that :D it would require pleo to have longer, more flexible legs, and due to t's shrt battery cycle, the would need to go to it every 50 mins or so to be sure it's batter doesn't die. other than that, it is a very good idea,

That's a really good idea, actually I already sketching a "Dock" one of Pleo, with idea that using color-mapping to recognize where to go, but I still stuck with the shape of the charger's plug or electric port.
It maybe very take a time to find a solution which suit with Pleo that lack of accurate. It need to be sit and charge or the another way is let it sit and you will walk to dock to plug in the charger. :P
But what I mentioned is about GUI of the software that running on computer. Like Dino-Mite 3rd-party software.
I have an idea that split the screen into 2 mode, user and developer. With user side will display Basic information of your Pleo like the ProbeRB of Pleopet.
You can see what they see on the visual monitor that send the signal through, on both mode.
UI of Ugobe and Innvo will be difference from each another. (a little bits)
Developer will have indicators of every motors and a lot info.
I will show some rough-sketch soon. %)

I'd be interested to see it :) But also how to hook the Pleo up... Doing cosmetic surgery to access hidden ports is not my cuppa tea :P

The charger has to brle at pleo's smooth bum which will do more harm to alter his looks tgan good. Also it would take pleo ages to walk to the console.

Now I try to asking about whole bunch of usb lab-bench adapter (old news that Degers had declared here long time ago.) on the global fb page and they advise me to e-mail to CS team.
I will post the answer ASAP. :)
I don't want to do any surgery on my Pleo too, so now I will consume that only way for rb must only be mini USB port. And for Ugobe and Merlin will have more option to connecting to Pleo. Talk about Merlin, I hope to see some mod version of rb from them soon...
Docking IMHO need to make a "2-ways chargeable battery" and "docking adapter". This battery will have a hole to screw docking adapter to lock with it. It need to have a contact plates to charge from the outside and normal charge (outside the Pleo). Docking adapter is lock with battery and removable, something like tripod screw. So when it's on the position, docking arm on the dock will grab that docking adapter and charging. But the only problem is it maybe not looking pretty. It may need the script to tell Pleo that they already on the position and shut down. (safety first.)
Get back to main topic. As I keep reading any docs I found on the internet, I think Dino-Mite is absolutely developer UI with a lot of option and detail that easily to confuse. Think that you can see all of dangerous functions. That's not good for someone who doesn't know Pleo deep down.

I wanted one of those lab bench adapters, but it never came to pass. :(
There was an Italian seller on eBay who had adapted an original Pleo battery to allow you to run the Ugobe Pleo off the mains ...... I wonder if they've managed to try a similar thing for an RB ..... :-\ :moose:

I'm willing, but don't have precise equipment at home, I can borrow it if you can bear with me until the weekend, if nobody else here can help?

No problem and thank you for your kindness. I can wait until someone give me the numbers. If you have enough times and mood, please measure distance of all contact plate's center point to the closest edge of the battery. This info is really important for me to do some handmade prototype. :-\ But this's not a promise. :-X
Actually in Bangkok now have an event that have some special deals for 2nd Pleo (I'm not sure that only their customer that bought from them or not.) and if it's your first, they have a deal to discount another toys ex. Goliath robot or Lamborghini Kids car or Penbo. I think I will take a look for my Pleo...Hope that I could have some discount. :P
note: I didn't post this deal on the deal topic but I'm not sure that anyone here ever buy a Pleo from them... so if no one here, that's not a deal IMO.

Here is my measurement - it is brown LiPo for rb (not sure if it matters): 64.3; 44.2; 29.4; 7.0 (mm) 2.532; 1.737; 1.158; 0.276 (inches)
The 4th number is contact plate CP distance - it is the same for all plates.
