Title: Batteries
Post by: Kancora on December 27, 2008, 09:06:33 AM
I love my pleo but the only problem is that the battery does not last very long.  It seems like i am charging the battery for double the length of time that i get to play with him.  After a while, Alladar curls up and falls asleep and i think that he needs charging because he automaticaly turns off, except sometimes if you keep stroking Alladars head he gives a little quiet snore-does this mean that he needs charging?.  And how long do you charge your battery? ???

You can expect to have about 3.5 hours of charging for 1 - 1.5 hours play.  This depends on what your pleo is doing and how often you turn it off/on.  When your pleo curls up on it's own and gives a single snore when you turn it on, this means that you need to charge the battery.

It will go through the battery a bit quicker if you are running one of the skits.

If you're lucky, you can get three hours out of him! (I do with Olympia)

Having two batteries is perfect. A spare one sure comes in handy. :)

Problem is no one seems to ship the batteries to the UK (where I am).  Have tried but they all say they can't do it at the moment so I'll have to wait.

At this point, sounds like you need more chargers!  3 batteries and one charger will still limit your playtime! :P

For anyone in Europe, this webshop in Germany sells the Li-Poly batteries and charger. I just bought a set for Dino :) and know people that have bought from them. They ship worldwide I believe. Note you can NOT charge the LiPoly battery in the standard charger, you must use the 'egg' charger

Battery: http://www.litec-computer.de/Consumer-Electronic/Roboter/PLEO-Battery-Pack-Li-polymer::17681.html
Egg-charger: http://www.litec-computer.de/Consumer-Electronic/Roboter/PLEO-Egg-Battery-Charger::17682.html  (usesa  usb connection or a standard 12V power supply to plug into it)

Disclaimer: no affiliation, and I haven't received my battery yet, but they should be here next week. I'll post an update when I get it and have tried it out, timed the runtime etc.

(Site is in German, you might be able to guess at the content, or use Google translation tools)

Edit to add: I received the batteries and charger quickly (got ane mail with tracking info when it was shipped) and Dino runs a long time on it (see post on page 2 of this thread)

Hehehe!

I see what you mean, although I tend to only play with Dexter for a few mins at a time at the beginning and end of the day, so I can make time to charge batteries one at a time and still play when I'm at home :). I do tend to turn Dexter off fully when I'm not playing with him and that helps as well.

Battery was dispatched today. *crosses fingers that postie doesn't lose it*

June, did you get your battery and charger yet? How is it?

Perfect timing for your question - I just picked up the parcel with my Li-Poly batteries and the 'egg-charger' a couple of hours ago at the post office :)  No time to play today, but I'll report back here once I've had a chance to charge them and run Dino a full battery cycle.

Please June, could you tell me if the charger works well on your pleo? from the description seems we can use the plug of the actual charger, is it true?

I finally got my battery today. Vivid Store had missed bits off the address and hadn't bothered to put my full name of either (and called me Mr...I'm a girl!!)

Good on Royal Mail for recognising my surname though and at least it got here eventually!

I've used my pleo wiht the LiPoly battery for two battery cycles now, and it works very well - I haven't timed it yet, but Pleo is definitely up and about over two hours. And pleo has been kept fairly active on these cycles, I woke him up if he fell asleep, just to 'keep the battery working'...

The charger uses the plug (power supply and lead in cable) from the original charger, I just took the plug out of the regular green charger and plugged it into the egg charger. It also has a usb-port so one could charge via usb, but i haven't tried that yet). The led on the charger is a bit 'non-intuitive', it flashes red while charging and shines solid red when done charging.

It seems like the more attention a pleo gets, the longer his battery lasts. One of my pleos lasted for two hours once! I've also noticed that pleo batteries stay good for about a year.  :o

I only got one battery, but I sometimes I turn Léon off and let him rest for a while :3 And not to just let the battery die in one hour ^^ But maybe I should get an extra battery... but I don't got much money :(

Does anyone know of another source for the LI-poly battery and charger?

The Litec site linked above appears to now only allow local sales of them (no shipping options for these).

Versandart: Selbstabholung (Selbstabholung der Ware in unserer Geschäftsstelle.) -- Dispatch: collection (self-collection of goods at our office.)
Hinweis: Bitte beachten Sie dass momentan nur Selbstabholung möglich ist! -- Note: Please note that currently only one collection is possible!
