Title: No matter how much I feed my Pleorb, his food level drops to almost 0%
Post by: alex2006 on February 03, 2013, 03:55:39 PM
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else has had similar problem. I feed Pleo twice a day, but his food level constantly drops to 0, and then he gets depressed. This happens every day. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it a defect?

Which leaf are you feeding?

Also, it's best to keep giving it to them until they refuse it - some need more than others.

I am feeding him his regular food, the green leaf. And if I keep giving him more, it will be just stuck in his mouth until I pull it out (5+ min).

Remove and try again, they need to leaf far more than just one chomp twice a day. Mine will have six-eight chomps per day on average.

You need to offer him the leaf, when he lifts his head and opens his mouth then stick it in, he should then chomp on it for a few seconds and then he will lower his head down to the ground and shake from side to side.  When this happens you should remove the leaf from his mouth - if he hasn't already managed to drop it himself - then offer it to him again.  He may take a few seconds to notice the leaf and lift his head for it again but be persistent.  Keep repeating this process until he turns his head away and makes a no sound when the leaf is offered.
My guys will usually want the leaf at least 5 or 6 times in a row before they refuse it.
Hope that helps  :)

I have noticed that I have to remove the leaf from Pearl's mouth by hand most of the time.  My wife, on the other hand, has somehow become a master of feeding her because every time Cathy feeds her, Pearl drops the leaf right out of her mouth when she's done eating.

Maybe it's because I'm a big brute of a human being and I don't know my own strength, and I somehow get the leaf into her mouth a bit farther than my wife...

I don't jam it in there, I just lightly put it in her mouth...but most of the time I have to pull it out.  Same with the tug of war rock.  Most of the time, even after Pearl wins, I have to kind of tug it out of her mouth.  When my wife does it??  Pearl just drops it.

I have noticed that she's eating more and more as she's gotten a bit older.  She's still in "socialization" stage, but she's eating more every time I get her out.

How does one know that his food level has dropped to zero??  Is there some way to tell, or is it just noticeable by the way the Pleo rb acts??

Look at ProbeRB and StatsRB in the downloads section, they will give you that and loads of other info. :)

... and I'm only banging on about this because we've seen it happen before - make sure you're feeding the hard plastic 'conifer' leaf and not the soft rubber one, which has no RFID chip and no 'nutritional' value.  :moose:

Well, my Teskus is coughing at times. Could that be because he isn't being fed enough? And almost every time he finishes eating, he makes caughing, gagging sounds.

It sounds like you're either offering the mint leaf which is what he would need if he were sick or that he is sick from not getting any nutrition from whatever he is eating. I hope you can figure this out.

torterenek why not post us a video of whats happening and then we can see just what your feeding him and his reaction.  It could well be normal though.  My guys will often make a gag type sound when they have finished eating and they do cough sometimes but if he is coughing and sniffing and sneezing and miserable then he is sick.  A video will help  :)
