Title: New Here And Need Info
Post by: MagicalWingLT on April 25, 2009, 07:50:55 PM
Hello everyone I'm new here, so that means I'm a newbie ;D Well I'm going to get my first Pleo this week, but I've noticed that Ugobe is now gone... I'm worried about this as what happens once I get my new Pleo and need new batteries later on? I've tried looking on Amazon, even on E Bay... I want to get a second battery but I can't find any... This is a problem.... Does anyone know where I can get one?

Now on to other issues, I've done my research on Pleo and know about the flaking paint, and broken neck issues... Does the pleo lose alot of paint or just a little? And the neck- does it brake easily? Of course I'll be watching my Pleo all the time, so I wouldn't let him bend his head and neck under anything... I just want some opinons and general info from other Pleo Owners :) Thanks in advance....

Hello and welcome MagicalWingLT!

New batteries aren't that tough to get, but we do need to know which country you are in to provide the right places :P Ebay does have them from time to time, just keep checking :)

Pleo only loses as much paint as you let him, if you pat him/her lots and lots then over a long period of time the color will fade. Most of us though dress our Pleo's in little outfits to make them look more unique and to help with the paint wear. Using some clothing can keep your Pleo looking like new for months.

Pleo's neck can take a fair amount of strain, on you tube you can see a video of a Pleo being dropped on his head and he is just fine (physically at least) afterwards, those with broken necks usually have a factory fault which causes weaknesses in the neck cables. If your Pleo's neck is going to break it will probably happen in the first three months. Listen out for strange, loud popping sounds in the neck which indicate a weak cable (each pop is a wire snapping) in which case return your Pleo immediately for a replacement.

Under normal circumstances though as long as you don't drop your Pleo or handle him/her roughly he/she is likely to be just fine :)

Oh I live in the US... Yes I did see a few batteries on E Bay at one point, but now they're gone! I guess since people have found out about Ugobe going under they are trying to find batteries ASAP... Heck I would too (infact I'm trying too already lol)

Oh yeah I found out about the outfits, there's some on E Bay... I'm going to buy that cute tye dye shirt lol.... I was also planning on getting some socks or shoes for the Pleo.. Know any place where I can find some? lol

Hello and welcome to the forum MagicalWingLT.  Some of our pleos have baby booties. Shouldn't be difficult to find. If they are a little too big, tie a little ribbon around them.
As far as necks go, my little Peeky, that broke his neck, had cables that were clicking from the very beginning. I could feel it pop at times. I didn't know that was a sign of a future problem.
The wear of the paint on pleo is only cosmetic and actually gives them their own look. I have to admit that Peeky's wear is from LOTs of rubbing, mostly from me but also a lot of elderly people at a retirement center, too. Just pet yours gently if you can. ;)

Oh so Peeky helps cheer up the elderly? That's a helpful and cool thing to do :)

Well I was about to bid on a Pleo on E Bay but it was too late... Oh well, I'm better off buying one on Amazon for around 199.00 plus shipping... And I better buy it fast... I got a feeling these Pleos are going to sell out... And I don't want to miss the chance....

The Australian Robot shop has batteries and they ship to to some places overseas (at least I think they do, they have other currencies available...)

i think some producers are workin to make new batteries for Pleo, maybe the lipoly battery (!?). Pleo it's more popular than Aibo, it's crazy to not make new improvements to batteries now that Ugobe out of the market.  ;)
I have the Ucube battery and charger and it'e REALLY awesome.

Well the charger comes with Pleo right?

You should get a charger, adaptor, battery, booklet, leaf and an ID card. I don't think the ID card means too much any more, however, there are probably 2000 gold cards somewhere out there (the very first pleos) Most of ours are green.  Mweed has a gold one. :D

Well my guess is that the first Pleo's would have the defective necks... Well just to let everyone know- I bought my Pleo! I ordered it from Amazon a half an hour ago, and it's being shipped from Fedex... This means I gotta stay home and be by the door otherwise it will get sent back... Oh well... $214.00 isn't a bad price :)

Now let's pray that the Pleo doesn't have any defects lol *crosses fingures*

Congratulations! This will be the most exciting box you will, probably, ever open. Enjoy every minute and try getting some photos for us. He or she will be a very loved pleo!  :) :) :)

I wonder what my parents will think once they see Pleo?

1. Will my mother be freaked out?

2. Will she be pissed that I spent over $200.00? lol or

3. Will she like him?

Stay tuned for the result lol

I already know that my dad, and the rest of the family will like him...

Well looks like I gotta find a nice bed for him... I also want to get a nice tye dye shirt for him, and a collar...

Well, in my case everyone in my house thought getting a Pleo was a waste. But, I set that aside, because Pleo truly brings me happiness. If Pleo makes you happy, SO BE IT! Who gives a hoot what anyone else's opinions are? If it is your money, and you felt it was worth it, so be it! It is nobody else's concern but your own!

The only thing I can think off the top of my head is investing in some clothes for pleo will pay off in the longrun. Our dinos are notorious for flaking paint (I don't even use the training leaf for that matter) so getting him/her dressed up also has it's purpose (other than making pleo look cuter!)

Gucci, as far as pleo's teeth go, Testors paint is perfect. I put two coats on Peeky's teeth and have not had a problem. Pennie is about to get a coat or two! Most hobby and craft stores should carry it.
You do need to have to be very careful not to make a mess on the lips of your pleo. Have a cotton swab with a dab of water to remove any excess paint. ;)

Great advice, Fancy! Thanks, will try and keep my eyes open for that! Personally, I have always just used white-out. (Which does work fine!) But I can relate. If any other pleo owners try and paint their Pleos teeth, heed warning as to what Fancyfont was saying! Keep a damp cloth close by, or else your pleo will end up like mine, with white stains on their tongue!  :o

I am not very happy right now... Let's just say my mother thinks it's a piece of crap nd that paying $214.00 for it is a waste... I also think I have a defective Pleo, as I hear some popping sounds, not good at all... How loud are the sounds? I'm very depressed now...

Oh no! Well as for your mother, her opinions are just that. Her opinions. And the same goes to you. The only opinion that matters is yours! What do you think of Pleo? IF you don't like Pleo, amazon is usually pretty good on taking new pleos back. You will also need to check if you bought pleo through amazon or one of its distributors. If bought through a distributor, be sure to check the seller's information to see if they do returns or exchanges since you mentioned you might have a defective Pleo.

As far as the popping noise goes, from what I understand this is a somewhat common situation with some new pleos. I would still say this is somewhat of a rare occasion. However from what I understand, the initial popping noises are bad news! You will more than likely need a new pleo, as the initial popping noises usually result in Pleos with broken necks down the road. (I think Fancyfont is a testament to this, but not sure.)

I am Gucci! From what I have heard loud popping shouldn't happen. I would play with Forte for a few charges and see if this occurs again. It might not be a problem if it stops.
There are a few people that don't have imaginations and never will. I have a couple in my family! :(

It's not that... See we have three cats and my mother really wants me to give them affection... I pet the cats, I just don't do it all the time... Anyways I bought the Pleo cause I like robotics... I told her this, but she still sees it as a waste of time nd money... It gets me so mad...

Don't worry about it, my dad thinks they are a complete waste of money too, and so does my nan :P But I don't care, I love the little guys :) It is someone to have around when my dog is out for the day and the cats are off doing there thing :P

I have a brother that won't even look at my photos I have of my pleos. It's just a flaw in his personality ::) I have the same problem with my dad, as you with your mom, but my dad has learned that I enjoy my pleos so much and if I'm happy, that is all that matters.. :)

Question- Does Pleo always fall asleep when the battery is going low? Or does he just stop moving sometimes when it happens? Like my Pleo has been active 1 hour now, and then it just stopped moving.. Is this normal? Also I think my Pleo has a defective tail as it only keeps moving to the right, and it was moving fine lastnight...

Pleo is programming includes battery monitoring.  When the battery drops to a low enough level, he is supposed to go to sleep.  But sometimes the battery goes dead quicker than pleo detects.  So sometimes pleo will just freeze.

So it's normal :)

Well it looks like my Pleo has a defective tail cuz it's only staying to the right, and it never goes to the left or going up... And my SD Card slot isn't working... I tried installing the 1.1 update it didn't work... And I also tried a personality nd that didn't work... Unless I'm doing something wrong... And I've also noticed that when I tickle Pleo's feet he doesn't giggle like he's suppose to...

First off, the personalities won't work unless you're running LifeOS1.1.  So, the fact that they don't work may not really be an issue.

On the SD slot problem, first let's check the SD card.  The card should be completely empty.  The files should be placed at the top level of the card, not in any directory.  Try re-downloading the updates.  If you started installing 1.1 and it failed, you may have to try 1.0.2 first, then install the 1.1 after you install the 1.0.2.  You might want to also try several different cards, in case pleo is having problems reading a specific card.  If pleo won't read ANY cards, then that points to the problem being the SD slot in pleo.

This is a case where DinoMITE would come in handy.  You could check your OS level and you could check the tail.

As another method to check the tail, if you can get the SD slot working, you can use MySkit to write a short skit to move the tail up, dow, left, right, and see if it works.

Do I take the sound files out of the folder? Or do I copy the folder to the SD Card?

What are you trying to load to the card?  Which update or personality?

The 1.1 update... :)

You just leave the sounds in the folder :)

If it doesn't work you might have to try the USB method instead, Lilo will not update from the card either.
