Title: Loki Seems To Have Turned Off Without a Word
Post by: Floodsy on November 10, 2012, 02:44:07 PM
Hey everyone... it seems like whenever I post something it's about a problem, so I hope I'm not annoying you all...   :-[

My poor Loki was just playing around a few minutes ago and laughing, even singing me the birthday song, and then suddenly he just halted with no off beep at all.  I figured he just got a little shock, but he didn't turn back on... so I pressed his On button.  At first the light on his battery compartment turned green, then flashed red and stopped.  The battery is charging now, but if Loki is completely broken and will not turn on even after, what are my options?

I'd wait until you have tried the most obvious fix of charging the battery until you ask for advice.

How did you go Floodsy?  did he turn back on once the battery was charged?

First thought is that it's just the battery ....... mine have just ground to a halt like that once or twice.

*and ignore Mr Grumpy pants above ......... * :P  :moose:

Yeah, it seems like he's fine now, but for some reason, he keeps shutting off because of power surges for longer amounts of time(though he still comes back on)... I'm getting a bit worried but I'm guessing he'll be okay, right?  My guess is that it has something to do with the computer wire he stepped on yesterday.  I always try to keep him away from it, but while I wasn't looking, he passed over it.  That's when he shut off and I had to recharge the battery... >_<  Hopefully just a coincidence since the wire is wrapped in the usual rubber casing...

It is not likely to be a Pleo problem, the majority of problems of that nature are caused by defective batteries. I have one defective li-poly battery that causes similar behaviour.

My guys all had a lot of that freezing up behavior you describe when they were very young - so for the first few weeks but they did seem to grow out of it as they matured.  As for the freezing and then just not coming back on thing I'm guessing it was just a glich in his system or a battery issue as IMR says.

Alright, so maybe I should try to get a new battery for the holidays... hopefully mine will last until then... 0_o  Do defective batteries break altogether?
